Pilgrimage of Lyra, 1
Pilgrimage of Lyra Zhao-Fan 1

Miles has been pestering you about it for years, now; to go out and pay your respects to the gods. Finally, this season, you admit that you have the time to spare for it. You give up on your plans of managing your retinue or patrolling, and writing laws cleverly takes more out of you than you expected. By the end of the meeting period, you are ready to go.

---

"At least take more than one car, Lyra!" your mother insists protectively. "You'll be traveling at least as far as Grand Central; you should take along an honor guard, or your captain!"

You consider your mother's words carefully. There is a natural safety in numbers, but Miles told you a pilgrimage was meant to be a personal experience.

[] "I'll take along some protections," you acquiesce. Brings along a few members of your retinue.
[] "I'll meet other pilgrims on the way!" you remind her. Travel with other pilgrims, slowing your trip a little but not affecting the experience as much as an armed guard will.
[] "I'm the most capable huntress on the planet, mom!" you huff. Travel alone and with a little haste, experiencing the open world of Remnant free of distraction.
[] "Maybe..." Write-in? Bring along a specific person, knowing that every body slows you down and changes the personal nature of your trip.

You've put a lot of thought into this trip, anyway. You're going to seek...

[] The Cradle, the birthplace of the Progenitors, hidden in the ruins of Vale. Miles tells you that the occasional faded photograph or story exists there of any of the progenitors; as an extra draw for you, the ruin of a fabled academy lies just outside the walls, teeming with Grimm, but also holding secrets untold. It is the most sacred place of the faith you can go to.
[] One of the holiest sites of The Frost Knight, in Atlas. There are stories of massive complexes in Atlas bearing the symbol of The Frost Knight, an artfully designed snowflake. These monuments are mostly in ruin, but if you pray fervently and hunt diligently, you may find someplace still intact.
[] Write-in? You could approach the holy sites of another progenitor, but doing so would be tantamount to renouncing The Frost Knight. You've worked hard to take her lessons to heart, why would you throw them away so casually?

AN: It begins.

Ha ha no, that'll take like a year total to deal with getting there and back. And with our luck, we'll run into Giant Sea Grimm and get stranded on a desert island.

The Cradle sounds like a dungeon run :ogles:

While traveling alone would be a far more personal experience, we have duties beyond our faith to our Warhost. Taking protection is prudent to seeing we return to those duties.

Let's hope our trip goes well.

Inb4 We find another Maiden locked in a freezer in the basement.

-[X] Bring Cado.
-[X] Bring one Huntsman and their apprentice--whoever is devout enough to be interested in the Pilgrimage as well as someone Lyra can get along with.

Also, is it just me or is SV's color scheme... Different somehow?

EDIT: Took @Spectrum's advice

Need to write in special selections. If the proposition was that Cado would be brought along to continue to reconcile with him, then we need to say so. Waffled on taking Miles--he'd be interesting but I want his action to keep going, could be talked into it. Kind of wanted Melody specifically but she also has an action I want to keep so we'll take someone else.

Okay, five votes, and technically it's two-two-one. If I get flexible, I could say that Protections wins and the extras win because they outnumber the basic choice... Considering how long it's been, I think I'll do that.

I suppose I will write a little later, though. I'm tired.

Throw my vote in with Spectrum's, mostly the same anyway except who we'd bring.

"My Lady, this is completely inappropriate," As-Abba says with about as much sincerity as a child with his hand in the cookie jar. "It's your prerogative to make or break the rules, but you should be consistent, at least. Please don't be so arbitrary in the future."

Clervoux looks more bothered, but you think it's more a matter that he didn't win the vote for regency. Darius is literally beaming. Vaala is overly expressive without saying anything, her eyes flicking over to Cado several times and faintly nodding.

You nod a few times, checking to see that Cado is still supervising the packing. "I understand, Chancellor," you placate. "I... really needed some time with my husband."

You wave from your place in the little procession as you drive away.

---

The first week is quiet enough, driving through the countryside in peace. You have taken to driving along the shoreside cliffs to catch the sun setting over the Golden Sea, since Cado seemed especially at peace when you happened to catch it on the fifth day.

The group is forced to stop midway through the second week, a brutal disease ravaging your group of pilgrims and guards. You and Cado escape the infection, but Huntress Alaya and Ro-Hir teeter on the brink of death for several days along with half of your attending soldiers. You wake at the end of the week to the sight of two corpses; the Huntress and her apprentice are dead.

Examining the corpses settles it quickly as you spot the blackened veins and bloodshot eyes; the camp is infected with Grimmsblood. Grimmsblood is known to have a much greater chance of infection the longer someone is exposed to it, and the disease is one of a rare few that are not affected by the healing or protective powers of one's own aura.

[] You will have to wait for the rest to fight off the infection.
[] You will have to leave the infected behind to be picked up by the caravans, about half of your honor guard.
[] You will have to portion off enough food and water for yourself and Cado and complete the pilgrimage by yourselves.
[] You will have to turn around and give up on your pilgrimage, you may already be incubating the disease.

AN: Let's immediately escalate to 11, then. Didn't expect a 2 quite so fast, but there it is. I've already rolled immunities, of course, but if you pick the first option I will have to roll them all again.

Goddammit

edit: At this point my paranoia is telling me it's all a Cultist plot.

Seems like the safest option but also leaves us weakened in overall strength.

...

Well...at least that's another +1 Lien/turn...?

Dammit, she had one of the interesting Semblances too.

Waffling between this vs waiting -but- splitting the camp by a fair distance by halves to act as a quarantine. It's cold but Grimmsblood is serious shit, ain't playin' around with that.

If you suspect a plot, Darius is actually a potential candidate, as I think he won the vote for regency.

-[X] Make sure to leave notes behind about your decision as well a blatant visible signal that the remainder are afflicted with Grimmsblood, in case the worst happens by the time someone else comes to their encampment.
-[X] Disinfect the supplies taken with you as best as possible.

Your write-ins are already considered. You won't be downright foolish about things.

Grimmsblood is terribly virulent, and ignores the protections normally afforded to the immune system by aura. It even negates the aura-based healing factor. Even a Masked One would have to be stupid to try to weaponize it, since the symptoms it causes result in death in more than half of cases and lend to a very high risk of accidental infection.

@Powerofmind
How far away are the nearest caravans, or do we not know? How long would those left behind be forced to just wait?

At least a day or two, possibly twice that before a caravan reaches them. They will likely be dead or clean by the time they come upon another group since they've already been sick for most of a week, and will not be stupid enough to leave the bodies unburned or unburied (basically all write-ins to reduce risk of infection are automatically considered, your people aren't dumb).

Got it, I'll strike them, thanks!

@Powerofmind What about in the case where we stay? Is it not possible to quarantine the infected away enough safely while still remaining in the area to not risk infection again?

Again, your people aren't idiots. They will do their level best to keep infected away from healthy, and water will be boiled, food will be cooked thoroughly, etc. You can automatically assume that unless you specifically request otherwise, they will take every precaution.

If that's the case, then how/why is that triggering a second infection roll? Their best isn't good enough to avoid that?

It's an airborne and bloodborne disease that can be easily compared to smallpox or bacterial meningitis in terms of virulence. Your best only goes so far.
What kind of incubation time is there? How realistic, from Lyra's knowledge, is the possibility listed that more people who aren't symptomatic are actually already infected and will show?

Usually a day or two before you start showing symptoms, so those who are sick are probably the ones who are going to stay sick.
