During the time the Necrontyr got their cybernetic immortality they weren't either. They were banished back to their immediate home region of space for poking the old ones the wrong way, and being all round imperialistic self entitled stupid noble pricks.

Also, while i agree that Emps may have pushed a few things about humanity's digitalization, i still think that the Necrontyr were piss poor software engineers, and still are because even as they have achieved mechanical apotheosis, they still have not managed to rewrite any part of their coding, escaped the confines of their bodies through uploading (with the sole exception of Trazyn) and are suffering from so many errors and glitches that its stopped being sad and revolved into humor.

And furthermore, as they cannot do any of those things, they cannot create a neural network of nanites to upload their minds into and then install this mass of nanites into an organic slurry and have it grow! They are abysmally terrible software engineers and biologists. At least they are decent engineers and superb physicists.
You sure about that? cause I'm pretty sure the war was still being fought when they did the upload.

Hey @Black-Aengel-01. Who would win in the biggest crossover in the galaxy? 40K Reavers+ C'tan+ Necrons+ DAoT Humanity vs Great Old Ones+ Old Ones+ Krok+ The Eldar Empire at it's height.
DAoT would die within the first few years. Sorry, but Humanity was good, but not up to the level of those horrors from that era.

However you also have to consider that each fought and operated on different environments.

Basically, the Reapers and Great Old Ones had a galaxy without the warp and their war culminated with the creation of that planar layer. After that, every war made use of the warp somehow. If to use it as a resource or denying that resource in a way that causes harm to the other party.

If the war were to happen on the galactic modern era, then the faction that has the Reapers would win though. Least reason of all because the reapers had more than a few races that agreed that using mass relays as ultra long range WMDs was fun.

I am. The Old Ones would have stomped the Necrontyr long before the C'tan issue may have popped up. What they were dealing with was constant petty wars and civil unrest from a million and one reasons. Most caused by their own internal politicking and issues. The real reason why the war and everything was going on was because of the many dynasties and factions basically wanting to split and become independent, or play their damn game of throne games of assassinations and political intrigue, and the ruling triarchy wanted to put a stop to it and the Old Ones and their unwillingness to give the nobility immortality were an excellent escape goat. But then they bit more than they could chew.

And ever since they got banished back to their realms, the propaganda and lies the rulers espoused were kind of swallowed by everyone, including the nobles themselves.

Wait if your going with the great old ones created the warp in the milky way then how do Tyranids have access to it and built they're evolution around it before entering the Milky Way did the warp spread to the rest of the universe?

They probably use what author called the deep warp the natural more subtle one and scarrier version also harder to connect to

That's the beauty of it. They did not. If they did... well... Let's just say that the Silent King would not have gotten the chance to return from his trip.

Basically the Warp's creation had a massive effect on how psychic energy behaves in the galaxy. Psychic energy exists naturally in the material Universe. E-Forces. And they were very common, just look at the Protheans, the Asari, the Rachni. They had psychic powers and did not have the warp.

It was when they entered the Milky Way that Psychic energy now almost universally resonates into the warp first and thus psychic abilities are altered on a fundamental level. It strengthens the abilities, but they also lose other important traits. Traits that the Tyranids once used, but now cannot.

creation of that planar layer
Well, I think you mean planar merger layer. Since the planar layer of the non-local universe and the 40K verse mix to create the warp from what I understand.

What 40K calls the Warp seems to be a mixing of two planar layers. There are rare mentions about it in 40K, that the things from the other planar layer are dealing with it slightly better and reaching into 40K to find someway of prying the two planar layers apart.

Isn't that what the Necron Pylons were for?

Necron pylons can restore the Veil Field (the field that separates the two Planes) and even push away the regions. but they cannot sever it, to resolve the issue because the pressure from the Empyrean comes from within that realm itself. You need to go deep. Deep. Head deep into hell itself. And collapse it from there.

Okay, so the SI is not the only change in 40k?

... You're just triggered my Red Flag for this.

The question is... why? 40k is a mess as it is already, so why go and alter it into an AU?!

If I interpreted it wrong then I'm sorry, but damn, I hate it when fics do such things...

I would say that instead of an AU is more of a filling in into the past. After all, it doesn't change much of the overall structure of 40k anyway.

At this point I am thinking mass effect and 40k were the same universe initally but become parallel timelines with beginning of specific divergence points

1st reapers were COMPETANT!!!!!! This time instead of half mentally crippled assimilation machines they took great deal of time improving thenselves and put a big effort to it unlike mass effect reapers they just did not go to sleep between cycels but continued doing scientific technological resarch and developments and improvments on their social govermental structure and protocols and situational adaptive intiatives and protocols much more adaptable and prepared

(This in itself is a very big shift the change would speak for itself and one of the main reasons these reapers are op unlike the condtsntly shitting of idiots from mc's mass effect universe)

2nd divergence the Great Old Ones Evolved

(This was the point their was no going back their evolution itself broke the camels back and their encounter with Reapers all but shattered similarity points with mass effects universe everything went downhill from here)

Found the story recently and binged it till chapter 23. Really enjoyed it, a novel idea and your writing style is very engaging and manages to include comedy well into the grimdark setting.

But the MC's imaginary moral high ground is just too annoying for me. He complaining about the inhumanity of the Imperium while commiting mass genocide and ranting about the childishness and irresponsibleness of all other god-forms is just the high-level entity, genocidal version of "hoho, everyone is stupid but me".

It would be much more easily digested if his thoughts were more mechanical in nature, I really rather hear a simple "culture/people X is too dangerous to keep near mine, the most efficient solution is erasing them" then hear a monologue about how he is sorry that the Imperium's environment created people that he simply has no choice but kill in their sleep.

Novice writer scrapping off the novice skin.

But you are right, there are parts that would benefit from a massive rewrite. If only i could keep a consistent story from one point to the end, but i do too much improvising to be really good.

If anyone is interested in the serious remake of this story here.

Catalyst Protocol Chapter 2 TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT "Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding. You call us Reapers. That is but a label, created by lower life forms to give voice to their annihilation. In the end...
