2019/2020 Community Council Nomination Discussions

I'm going to restate here, just for the record, that you can nominate up to five people this year. I'm seeing a certain number of two-person nominations in the nomination thread, and I'm rather suspecting some people are voting without having read the updated nomination rules.

Might as well put my name in the hat while I can. Most of you should know me. Many of you might even have opinions of me!

But rest assured, one thing is for sure, and that it's that I'm deeply invested in this forum, how it's governed, and that I know more than most about how the Council runs.

Nominate/vote for me, and I guarantee you'll not regret it!

Consider this my official announcement of my candidacy, I guess. I've been on the forum since the very beginning, I even served as a Moderator for a time. I know how the forum works, I have ideas for how it could be better, and I have an unremitting commitment to puncturing Squishy's ego at every turn.

Also, vote for me and I will see to it that logiccosmic is sent to The Hague for his crimes.

You guys should bone up on your tribunal law history for when the q&a thread goes up, because that's where my question will be on.

Hey everyone, Lord Chungus here to explain why you should vote for me and a few other people but mainly me.

Firstly, the people I'm nominating:

The first person I'm nominating, and one of the easier choices, is @Redshirt Army. I've known him for about as long as I've been on SV. He's smart, reliable, and a great guy to hang out with. I mainly interacted with him on Discord and in PMAS, and unlike many others, he was never hostile, or rude, or condescending. The few times I crafted votes with him, it felt like we were working together, even when arguing against each other, and that's something I think is really valuable in a prospective Councillor.

My second nomination goes to @NothingNow. He's a returning Councillor, with wisdom and experience aplenty. His record in tribunals speaks for itself, and my interaction with him on SV and in the SV and CC AMA discords have only every been positive. Also I want him to post that cannibalism (or was it necrophilia?) essay; stop holding out on us!

My third nomination is going to @Hykal94, another returning Councillor. Much like @NothingNow, his record is incredible and he's only ever been helpful on the CC AMA. Ultimately, @Hykal94 is someone I trust to represent the userbase of SV, as shown by the fact that he's a walking cat meme. Then there's the matter of the blood pact we swore after slaying the three-headed hound of hell, which neither of use would ever break :V. (Forreal though I'm not mad or anything, don't worry about it :p)

My fourth nomination is pointed towards @BanTheFairyKing, who I know pretty well from discord. I've known him for the better part of a year, and he's been kind, friendly, and just a great guy. I trust his judgement, his ability to keep a level head, and his general demeanor.

Last, but (hopefully) not least, my final nomination is for.... myself! I wasn't at all sure if I should nominate myself last, or someone else entirely, (it felt like a bit of a dick move), but ultimately... I want to be on the Community Council. I want to represent the userbase, I want to advise the staff, I want to help make SV a better place, and I'm more than willing to put in the work for it. I'm good at getting along with people, and if I'm nominated I'll do everything I can to make SV a better place for everyone, Staff member, Councillor, or peasant regular user.

Edit: As it turns out, @Blazinghand actually is running again, which means I have to vote for him. I detailed the reasons why later on, but tl;dr I'm voting for him instead of myself.

I've seen you around! You're one of them shadowy figures roaming around the forums! Nice try attempting to represent the members of SV. You may have others fooled, but not me! :V

But I've seen you around, but not in places I frequent. You seem like a upstanding human being, and a respectable memeber of SV.
What makes you guarantee that I will not regret my choice in regretting voting for you?

I have read through this thread and I have heard the ideals and intents of the potential candidates, but I believe something important must be known.

How well can you all handle criticism? Constructive criticism can be helpful for ensuring a healthy website.

Also...none of you candidates happen to have any plans to pull a Palpatine on the site do you? Best we get any urges to do that out of the way now so that SV can perhaps be the best that it can be!
Personally, I like receiving constructive criticism; I've learned that it's hard to grow if you don't listen to people criticizing you. My writing, for example, has only gotten better as people point out my flaws.

Also I want him to post that cannibalism (or was it necrophilia?) essay; stop holding out on us!
It's gonna be about Infanticide. God.

Though I could talk about mortuary cannibalism as an actual ritual practice and not just from an epidemiological perspective, (or if given more time, how the sexualization of stereotypes has created the entirely modern and contemporary fetish of Gynophagia and why Dolcette is creepy as hell, although that's more like in the general realm of human sexuality, like trying to trace the development of ABDL fetishism, and not Thanatology.) It would not be about Necrophilia though, that's actually really boring as a subject.

I'm Barack 2nd coolest dad ever, I will mispell words and murder commas, but I will give my dumbest and the most honest opinions, if you can't think of no one you like then nominate me.

Actually running the website sounds like more of a commitment than I particularly want or need, especially when such a coup would doubtless alienate key personnel who would need replacement. Squishy is safe unless a revolt is provoked in which case I reserve the right to position myself at their head so they don't destroy me until later.

As for criticism I find it's rarely as constructive as hoped. People are good at identifying what they don't like, but their prescriptions for actual causes, much less how to fix it, are often another matter. Especially in relation to the whole of the thing being discussed. In a way I'd prefer the first part only. Exceptions exist, of course. Sometimes you get a subject matter expert, it's just that usually means something different from what people think. (My refrain about how even most writers write instinctively rather than being able to deconstruct storytelling as a reasoned process.)

Yeah, getting that and a decent editor always helps.

But then half my comments end up being "@NothingNow No!" to which I will invariably go "@NothingNow Yes!" before being foiled by my own sloth.

Consider this an announcement of my intention to run.

I've been on Sufficient Velocity for over five years of my life, and it's shaped the person I am today. I've spent a full 26% of my life on this website, and I feel that it's high time I give something back. If elected, I promise to represent people fairly and try to take everything I've learned about the people that make up this community into account when making decisions.

I say what I mean and I mean what I say, so if you like that, toss a nomination my way.

EDIT: As for my position on returning Councilors, everyone I nominated are people I count among the smartest and most insightful posters I've had the distinct pleasure of meeting on the internet. If there's an [x] by their name in my post the nomination thread, you can count them as a Telamon-certified Thoughtful Person.

Except for Telamon. He's a bit weird, that one. :V

I compare criticism to pointing out a hole in a boat.
Maybe there's a lot of holes, maybe there's just one.
Pointing out a hole doesn't mean you're making one.
But not everyone who points out a hole knows how fix it.
Much less are people who can actually fix the hole.

Boats.

After a brief chat with @Koshachiy where they raised some good questions and concerns, I'd like to take a moment to clarify my position on erotica.

1: I want more erotica on SV.

2: I want good erotica, not the kind of crap I can find in five seconds on AO3 already.

3: I'm never going to advocate for porn without plot. I have no issue with it, but it doesn't belong on SV. It has other places.

4: Nor am I going to tolerate fetishization of lgbt people. Not only is that insulting, it's just straight lesbian-up bad writing. I get enough of that from my japanese cartoons.

5: However, I'm willing to put up with bad or mediocre erotica written by people earnestly trying for good erotica, so long as it's clear they were genuinely trying.

How well can you all handle criticism? Constructive criticism can be helpful for ensuring a healthy website.

I've studied under the feet of masters for years in order to learn the techniques needed to put up an impenetrable veil of affected irreverence, thus rendering me immune to all negative emotions due to criticism. :V

More seriously? I try to take critique of my own actions seriously and avoid repeating mistakes, and my preferred approach to solving problems is to brainstorm with other people and try to gather other perspectives.

Honestly more good erotica here would be cool. Actually just anything dealing with the parts of the human experience we generally file under the mature flair would be cool (which is where I should probably put beads and brass when I actually get more of that done.)
Were it not for my own existing projects, I'd actually try my hand at it when I get the inspiration and maybe cook up something decent.

Maybe I'll do it after I finally finish my novel.

Excuse you :V

So is this mainly in User Fiction? Or are you planning on expanding into fresh Quests territory?

Actually I'm entirely in Quests at the moment, as the gal responsible for Her Mantle Is Love... though I do know a certain @linkhyrule5 who's responsible for Enthusiastic Consent, SV's premier erotica on the User Fiction side of things.

I could go on to list a number of prominent forum members who have discussed their erotic writing with me since I posted Mantle, but due to privacy concerns I'll refrain. Instead, I will simply state that there's a lot of overlap between the QQ userbase and the SV userbase, and I honestly believe we can do a better job at supporting good erotica - of whatever form - than QQ does.
