Squishy has said they're not. People are worried it is a disadvantage to those who can't participate for personal reasons.

I have a feeling it won't be that important overall.

Yes, that's what they're for. After August 16th, we'll decide the final set of candidates based on who has indicated they don't want to participate and who has submitted personal statements, and then the personal statements will go up for the voters to review.

You should give voters a rubric. How many points are they supposed to take off for spelling and grammar? What about bad arguments? Clumsy themes? Plagiarism?

What about the optimal memes to serious ratio? There can't be all memes, but how much is too much?

Man this is becoming like English class all over again...
