Spirit of an Age (Exalted)

Starting Out 1
[x] Help this 'Immaculate Cloister' deal with these 'disease spirits'. An epidemic is always bad.

Hah. That's no choice at all, is it? You wonder if vaccinations would work in this world. Questions for later.

"I will help you stop these disease spirits."

The woman nods solemnly. "Very well then. Follow me and I shall lead you to the cloister." She turns and begins walking, you follow.

After a moment she speaks again. "My name is Thrice Splitting River, what should I call you spirit?"

"I see." is her reply, and she remains silent for the rest of the trip.

Finally, you come to a modest building. It looks more like a school than a temple. River opens the door and waves you in. You follow.

It turns out there are a number of people, some of whom are even learning to read and write. None of them seem to notice you however, as River leads you through the building. Then to an office. Inside the office is a desk and behind the desk is a man who looks up and definitely sees you.

He pinches his nose. "Dammit, River. What now?"

"He has agreed to help us against the obstinate disease spirits we've been trying to negotiate with in exchange for being taught how to read and write Riverspeak." She answers calmly.

The man quirks his eyebrow, and turns questioningly to you. You nod. He snorts, "Well, I won't turn away the help. No reason to let yourself be outnumbered when you don't have to. I am Vithka Niktar, the abbot at this cloister. River has told me about her spirit watching. I must admit some curiosity as to your eagerness to assist us with the disease spirits."

Unless there is some downside to giving our real name. I don't really know anything about the magic here.

Do spirts leave behind a body? If they do the body of a disease spirt should be able to make vaccines.

I have to say, Mecha Democracy Dragon is a fantastic character concept. Especially for a setting like Creation.

Not any magic downside, but it does mark us out as unusual yet again. Gods always have names related to and evocative of their domains, but they are never actually literally named it. Even if they have no idea what Liberalism is, it's very clearly the name of a concept, rather than the God of that concept.

Still us, but easier for these people to swallow.

Edit: Nevermind there are Charms that allow people to automatically detect lies. We don't want that.

-[X] Plus having a multi-disease epidemic would be an absolute disaster for everybody.

[X] Collected Perspective Contract

Took some figuring to get something that means "the process of democracy" while fitting the setting.

^^
Immaculate Monks usually don't get those beyond heightened intuition. Conceptually perfect lie detection is solaroid.

[X] I only want the best for the People, think of what a plague would do to the economy! The horror!

"Do I need a reason to help save lives?"

There is a pause in the room. River and Niktar exchange a glance, and Niktar gives you a long hard measuring look. Finally, he leans back.

"You're not lying. That is... unusual. Welcome of course, but unusual." He leans forward again, "I am pleased to meet you my naive friend. Do you expect to need lodging while learning from us? If so I would be willing to provide a place for you to rest."

[] Lodgings would be useful
[] I have a place already

"Good, good. The next meeting with the disease spririts will be tomorrow, an hour after noon. Follow River and she will guide you."

You nod.

"Damn you Immaculates! We deserve more worship. It is our right! We are gods."

Niktar is unmoved, "It is not your right. You seek worship and the rewards thereof outside of your remit."

"Yeah? Does the rest of Nexus think we don't deserve more worship? Why don't we find out? I wonder how they'd like an outbreak of the cholera."

"If you seek to do that we shall stop you, by force. We shall do so as many times as is necessary. It will not be pleasant for you."

The disease spirit pauses, before scowling, "Then try it monk."
