Honestly, not doing it just seems like the right thing to do. Or not do. Whatever.

I have no idea what "refuse violently" means, but it doesn't sound like the path to inner peace, and actually sounds more like something a Hollow would do, so, y'know, probably not helpful.

And on the "do it" side of the scale... "Pre-emptively murder my inner self for power" is... wow that sounds bound to work out in this setting yeah go for it

You cannot kill your zanpakuto spirit. Ichigo already slashed it open when he got shikai, and Zangetsu was fine afterwards. What Zangetsu is suggesting is subjugating him to take more power before he gets taken over by the hollow energy.

Refusing to take it will make Ichigo's hollowfied Zanpakuto stronger, which will probably make Ichigo stronger faster. The catch is that there will be a big chance of being taken over by the Hollow first.

I don't know, it kind of feels like he's baiting us. Take this power-up or your family dies. For real. Like, I kind of understand we'd go after then eventually, but to do it immediately?
