Bleach: Derailed

EDIT: Originally misquoted.
Isn't that a bit backwards - by that, I mean isn't it true that, since the messenger isn't likely to currently be there (since we're so proportionately far before the guesstimated arrival time) the earlier we go the earlier we lock in our message sans-updates without having to go back and spend another update on the same message? And further, isn't it true we don't actually have any specific reason to assume the messenger would be leaving without a message should Ichigo have not dropped one off yet? That seems like it'd be assuming jerky things about Kukaku, to think that she wouldn't even try to tap Ichigo/keep the messenger around if things came about such that the messenger arrived and there wasn't an already prepped message waiting.

Kukaku also lets you know that she doesn't have 'the thing' ready before she leaves, but that you should stop by regardless to meet someone you should get to know, but they won't be around forever.

According to a story post by TPK, @Bob's Beard, you are wrong.
The point of visiting Kukaku now is that someone is currently there, but won't stay for very long. Yes, we won't have the cool thing, but it sounds like that won't be ready till after.

Does leaving Zangetsu in shikai have any downsides? Does Ichigo's reiatsu 'signature' change? Does it drain his spirit energy? Will people comment on the change?

I'd say a reputation downside. I can't recall anyone else using shikai all the time. I might be wrong, but IIRC captains are forbidden to use shikai in SS except when there is war.

It's something you use in a fight, so having it activated all the time probably indicates that you're looking for a fight or that you have very poor control.

Anyway, even if Ichigo doesn't manage bankai in 30 weeks, he'll just have to carry around a giant unreleased sword instead of a smaller one.

[X] Keep him unreleased
[X] Visit Kukaku and see what's going on there

He already set the terms. Now he can abide by them while we bloody get WORK done.

[X] Keep him in shikai.
[X] Accept Komura's invitation to meet.

It seems to me that Zangetsu would only allow keeping him unreleased if we complete his Bankai challenge. Until we do i don't see the point in butting further heads with him. Get Bankai, learn how to deal with him, then we can come to an accord.

[X] Keep him in shikai.
[X] Maybe Gin can help with getting bankai

Keeping him unreleased cause while he hates it he understands our reasoning and won't take it as a personal slight like before and instead just as a fucked up situation for him

Meeting with Komamura cause I hope we will be able to explain our situation with Zangetsu to him and ,aybe get an advice on how to unlock Bankai in 30 weeks

[JK] Paint Zangetsu hot pink and cover him in glitter. If he wants to show off, then you'll make sure nobody can possibly miss him!
[JK] You need to get Bankai faster than anyone in history. You've gotta find Hanataro, you're sure he'll know what to do!

This is the only true path forward.

Okay, take two:
  • Ichigo has two ways for his sword to be right now; Unreleased (generally looking like a normal katana but larger), and Shikai (giant wrapped butcher knife).
  • Currently even though Zangetsu can make itself the size of a knife as it demonstrated with its Shikai fuckery, it does not, and both states of the sword seem to be described as having static dimensions.
  • Between Ichigo's current Unreleased sword, and his current Shikai, are they equally long, or is one longer than the other?

You know, is one larger/does one catch on stuff more than the other, between Katana-state and Giant-Butcher-state - that's the question.

Seems like something he'd definitely know, like someone knowing which shirt's thicker fabric, and I don't believe I've seen it commented on in-update.
No.

I never said that Zangetsu stopped messing with his shikai's size.
