Bleach: Derailed

We actually probably have access to hollow powers, that came from White, who became part of Zangetsu.

And unlike quincies hollows are also intrinsically dead, so there's no reason why those powers wouldn't have survived.
We got Konso'd. Being Konso'd is, like, the definition of a thing which takes away hollow powers. Zangetsu isn't a hollow anymore, just a technically-a-plus creepy guy. He's still very powerful, because he was only purified, not removed, but he can't pull the body-stealing thing any more.

Isn't it more like several hundred?

Depends on the time frame, but Byakuya said that it takes 10 years to get and 100 to master and I would assume that he meant that was the average since there's no way that the highly individualistic characters and their highly individualistic Zanpakuto would all follow the same exact time frame. A general path/formula, maybe. But not, literally every character took 10 years to unlock it and a further 100 to master it. After all, Hitsugaya has his Bankai, but it's not even completely mastered/completed and yet he's a Captain.

Maybe so, but we died and got Konso'd. So while Zangetsu came from White, we don't know if the Hollow abilities actually survived our death and subsequent Konso-ing. Maybe it did and maybe it didn't, but for now it's best to assume the worst and that we don't have access to the Hollow Mask and all that entails. If it does, we're pleasantly surprised and if it doesn't, we're not unprepared for it.

If anyone's collating the next set of QnA questions to ask, add "Does Ichigo still have his Hollow powers?" To the list.

Why? We got a clear-cut answer in the last QnA:
Were Ichigo's hollow powers cleansed during his passing on to Soul Society?
Yes, as Zangetsu implied when he realized that he couldn't threaten to take over Ichigo's body.
Ichigo no longer have his Hollow Powers.

[X] Keep him unreleased.
[X] Accept Komura's invitation to meet.

"It's not like that!" You finally snap back, heat rising in your throat as you shout. The silence afterward is telling. "Look... I hit somebody with you by accident, in a bar. She was a soul reaper! It's not wrong to want not to smack people with you when I don't want to, and it's not like that was the first time. Remember when Takako tripped and fell down the stairs because I turned around?"

Zangetsu snaps his mouth shut with a click. He stares at you for several seconds, and then wrinkles his face up with an expression of profound disgust. "I guess." He says the words quickly, as though they actually pain him to admit. "But that doesn't make you right."

Well looks like we got through to him somewhat.

"The only thing that matters, when discussing what makes people right, is power." He says, and you pay attention because the aggrieved bite is gone from him. Instead he's intense, focused, like a razor blade -like a zanpakuto's edge, but as he speaks his volume intensifies. "Power is why you're not standing in some run down hovel in the outer districts, struggling to remember your sisters' faces! Power is why a captain of the Thirteen Court Squads wants to meet with you! Power is what determines if you're right, or if you're food or trash to be trampled underfoot!"

And a nice speech.

I honestly think this went pretty well. Both Ichigo and Zangetsu got to air out there issues and the problems they had with one another. Zangetsu gave ground somewhat and issued another challenge to Ichigo. Believe it or not, based on the Bankai challenge I think Zangetsu is somewhat okay with our reasoning with keeping him unreleased. But that doesn't mean we should still keep him unreleased now.

[x] Keep him in shikai
[x] Visit Kukaku and see what's going on there

Reasoning: I think we absolutely need to keep him in Shikai because of the Bankai challenge. We need to get used to the feel of actually releasing our Shikai, fighting with it, and just wielding it in general. We need to have mastered our Shikai and to know it intimately in order to have any chance of getting Bankai. Keeping Zangetsu in Shikai accomplishes two goals of making Zangetsu somewhat happy and getting Ichigo started on learning the ins and outs of his Shikai, which should help with Bankai. By constantly having our sword in Shikai, I think Ichigo will be better prepared for Zangetsu's challenge. Basically, you need to be master Shikai first before you can get close to Bankai, and to do that in the time that we are given then we should have it released constantly.

Also, keeping Zangetsu unreleased serves no purpose right now, see here:

"I'll take whatever size you want... as long as you can gain my bankai. In. Ten. Months."

Keeping Zangetsu unreleased is just ignoring everything he said. We tried to bullhead through our own way and didn't gain anything. We need the Sword Spirit's cooperation in order to achieve actual progress with our sword.

Zangetsu has laid out his compromise/challenge. He will accept Ichigo reducing the size of the blade (or increasing it as he did say whatever size) if we meet his challenge. We won't get anywhere by butting heads with our sword. We prove ourselves to him and then he will accept whatever issues that we have with his size (although honestly I thought the original size was pretty cool, but that is just personal preference). Basically, we've gotten advice from Yachiro, an expert on how to deal with Zanpakuto, and Zangetsu has given us a compromise. Lets listen to the expert and the sword spirit.

As for Kukaku, lets get the message to our sister. Then we can meet the Captain after that, unless something else pops up.

What to do about Zangetsu? Maybe carrying him around in shikai will make him easier to deal with.
Is Zangetsu still staying in chibi mode? If so then it's probably worth keeping him released so we can get used to wielding a small blade like that. Also it would avoid the overly large size issues we were having with the unreleased form.

If we're going to go for bankai, we're going to need to have a good feel for shikai at least. And Komamura does have his bankai, so asking them about it if it comes up wouldn't be a bad idea. Not like we don't have time to also ask Gin about it later, anyway.
