After one of your classes you ask Takako if she'd mind a word. Strangely enough, actually getting over yourself an asking for help is the hardest part of the whole process. Once you actually explain, in careful words, that you'd like to know who you can talk to about the Shiba clan, it only takes her a few seconds to come up with the best person.
You ignore that she spent several seconds scrutinizing you with a disgruntled expression on her face before answering. You wear one similar to it most of the time. Complaining would be kind of stupid.
Things Takako definitively knows:
1. Gin made a comment about Ichigo looking a bit like a Shiba
2. Pretty well right after she gave Ichigo a Who's Who of Soul Society he came asking for help getting info on the Shiba clan.
It turns out that academy students are permitted to return to the outer districts as long as it doesn't interfere with their studies,
Think a few people missed this line, it is expected for you to be in the academy and people will notice if you go AWOL
There are only four noble clans because I told central forty-six where they could shove everything they preached about honor, after soul reaper loyalty got Kaien killed fighting a hollow he had no business trying to cleanse alone.
There were never any details on the whole Shiba noble clan thing in Canon, so it's interesting to see what you've done here.
I will note, going by Byakuya's behaviour despite the Shibas not technically being a noble clan anymore, he still had a lot of respect for them. I'd attribute that to Old Money sticking together personally.
She pours another cup of wine, but then thinks better of it and drinks what was left in the bottle instead.
If you see someone do this?
You do not mess with that person.
It's a great offer, but I'd rather Ichigo not vanish off into the wilderness for a week or more and come back with a shikai resembling that of a disgraced noble clan. Subtle, that is not. And people would recognise something similar to the shikai of a former captain.
The point was that either way, Ichigo's on track to develop a disgraced noble clan-style Shikai regardless, for obvious reasons. And further, even if he doesn't develop it out-of-house in a big notable breach of expectations/rules like staying away for weeks, he'd still be expected to show his Shikai, whenever he develops it.
I wouldn't worry
that much about it. People don't go running around showing Shikai or Bankai off as a matter of course. (There are tons of times in the series people haven't every seen each others release) That and the family line thing is likely to be a little known fact, what with how infrequently it happens, and only someone who has seen Isshin's shikai would be able to make the connection, which is an even smaller pool of people. (She said
direct descent only, so it won't be similar to Kaien's zanpaktou, so no worries there)
-[] Train with her once a week.
-Takako eyes you up and down. "...Were you mugged, or attacked by a hollow?" "Shiba." You groan from your spot on the nice, cool floor.
SNRK
It makes a lot of sense that Kukaku has no idea how Shikai actually works. We never see her or Ganju use it, that I recall.
Well, they don't have zanpaktou, so that makes sense, since neither of them are shinigami. I imagine, even with the allowances Noble clans get that Soul Society does its best to make sure that no Asauchi end up outside the academy.
"Why do you have a similar Shikai to the Shiba clan?"
"Apparently I'm the reincarnation of Kaien Shiba"
*squinted examination*
".......Huh, yeah I can see it"
I'm...not sure the timeline works on that one?
Fuck knows, canon never made it clear.
If it was long enough ago for that to work you'd think Rukia would be over her PTSD a bit better, but otoh it's not like Soul Society has any freaking therapists.
Because to me, this reads like something said after we succeed. All the rest show us in the process of going for Shikai, this one makes the most sense after we've already gotten it.
(although I will admit that once a week sounds quite amusing.)
Reads the opposite to me. Weekend spent trying without success, Ichigo getting stubborn whilst Kukaku tries to tell him to get some freaking rest and come back another time.
[X] Accept Kukaku's offer of help.
-[X] Train with her once a week.
a/w, choosing this for multiple reasons
- Long term interaction with Kukaku and the Shiba Clan
- Takako getting to laugh at him getting the shit kicked out of him
- The exams aren't until the
end of the year. There's no practical difference for us between getting Shikai in two weeks or in two months. Most shinigami
never achieve shikai, just having it before you're even placed in a squad is ridiculous.
