Didn't Ichigo canonically get good grades in school?

Ichigo is very good at hand to hand, having done a lot of it while alive. If we take that class we will be able to graduate faster. Any kind of kido is something Ichigo will not be good at and it'll only make it more difficult for him to graduate.

Reasoning: Healing magic is tremendously useful for patching people up, which Ichigo's really going to need if he pushes himself, and if he gets attached to other people like Takako. I think it'll also serve as a reminder of his goal (his family and the Kurosaki clinic). Movement magic is great because you'll have difficulty hitting someone if you're not fast enough, and for not getting hit in the first place. I'm going for destruction magic instead of swords because I'm a bit bored of Ichigo's usual approach to that kind of thing (i.e. sword it more), and lots of people have already voted for swording anyway.

Makes it worse actually. The meathead that wouldn't know an A if it beat him over the head with a laptop isn't going to be stressed about a bad grade. Why would he be? It's damn near impossible to fail highschool if you show up often enough, and he's probably not concerned about college.

The nerd that's looking at a potential full-ride Harvard scholarship though? Oh, yeah. The idea of an A- is enough to make him break out in hives, an F would give him cardiac arrest.

I figure hand to hand because that's what Ichigo has experience with, healing out of sentiment, and swords because that's what he showed the most talent for in canon.

why use the think already attempted in canon, the main problem he has is with his inability to control his spiritual powers, kido can help him with that, swords are boring, caster Ichigo is far more unique.

His inability to control his spiritual powers is why there's no point in doing kido. It's just not something Ichigo can do. We ought to play to his overwhelming strengths, not the weaknesses we can do nothing about.
