[X] Link's Seven Course Battle Plan Against The Great Enemy
You are Princess Zelda Saria Ilia Hyrule, and you're currently wondering what Link was doing.
Not because you were starving. Noooo. You're a princess, you won't let yourself be impatient because your stomach dictated it!
Rather it had just... been a couple hours. You hope Aunties refurbished kitchen hadn't confounded him, he genuinely enjoyed cooking and you didn't want him to have a miserable time while staying here.
Mipha at least seemed to be enjoying herself, sipping at the cup of juice and asking questions about Sheikah art and architecture, your fellow Princess having the Zora's appreciation of art in all its forms. Watching the young Zora girl quietly speak and explain Zora silver working you can't help but be reminded of your eternal gratitude to her. She had done so much for you, keeping you alive on your journey, healing those scars and simply ensuring you didn't have to worry about... *ahem* well, you were glad you didn't have to fish out a dress one morning.
And now... you've dragged her into something that's... well you aren't fully sure what it really is yet. Mipha was the Maiden of Water, and just you... poking her had her somehow manifest rudimentary Hydrokinesis, you think.
You watch her closely, from the subtle way her delicate fingers closed around the cup, to her slender frame shifting slightly as she turned to answer a stuttered question from your dear Paya and the way her crimson scales glistened like rubies as afternoon turned to dusk. She had grown to be so much like her mother, beautiful and kind, her every movement as graceful as a dancer's. She didn't look like someone who had spent years starving in the wilds, killing men with her bare hands just to survive one more day while you lived in luxury, wasting your days away in your room.
You try to ignore the voice in the back of your head reminding you that you've killed too, and you force down the guilt with a few deep gulps from your cup.
You spare a glance to Paya, the now fading sunlight making her snow-white hair glow with the gentle beauty of a winter morning, her nervous blush a dusting of pink on her pale skin. A smile tugs at your lips for a moment, but vanishes when you remember what you had noticed about her in the baths. It may not have been
appropriate for a young lady to stare so long, but it had lead you to realize that Paya has lost a decent amount of weight since the last time you've seen her, and seemed...
unhealthy. She must have been so worried about you, and already so busy she had started to forget more often to eat without you there to remind her. You know Impa regularly ensured the larder was stocked and would physically force you and Paya to eat when you had forgotten to feed yourselves but Impa was always so busy...
Maybe with Link taking over cooking duties she'll take the time to rest, recover her health and maybe sleep once in awhile...
Link... Mipha asks if you're alright but you shrug it off, half-heartedly adding to the conversation as your mind settles onto your childhood friend as it had so often done so these last few weeks, but that strange, unaccountable slight fluttering in your gut that you have with the other girls had turned into a heavy, acidic pit that left you almost nauseous. He was your... counterpart, a hero bearing the second piece of the sacred icon of which you also bear, (with the mysterious top part missing, for a reason you weren't sure of) that with you as the true goddess blessed princess was to save Hyrule. He had been... always, since the beginning. It had never been your choice, but destiny leading you to him.
What was even supposed to make things easier to talk... because he just
fit so well was just you following fate. In hindsight, it should have been really obvious. But he... he was still your friend. You had been wrong,
again but he was still... Link. You still had fun playing around making that terrible ill-prepared video with him and Mipha. He still acted like Link, even with the glowing hand. And didn't you need your knowledge of Sheikah technology for this Nexus? Maybe that meant you can still fix... still have some contr- yeah.
And hey, everyone in your books are always destined to work together as.. p-p-partners, yes. Following this path lead to no longer spending nights in silent agony, tears streaming down your face as your scars burned, your hand clasped over your mouth so as not to wake him. It lead to Mipha being freed from starving in the woods as your friend again and you returning home, if only for a short while. Maybe the more you go with what everyone says your destiny is maybe things will work out...
Ah, you can hear him walking down the halls, very carefully so he's probably carrying food. You look towards the entrance way to greet him, the others realizing and turning as well just as he walks in, carrying trays of... a plate of deviled eggs and bowls of soup? Oh, but whatever it smelled
heavenly. He must have made the stock by himself, that was what took him so long.
Paya gasped at the sight of the food, while Mipha clapped her hands in front of her face, eyes wide, "Oh I've never seen eggs made like this! And this bowl of warm liquid filled with such tasty looking things! It all looks wonderful Link! I thank you for providing this meal!"
H-hey... what was with that grin Link gave? Was he... planning something?
++++
You're a fool.
You've seen him cook. The care he puts into every meal. The extravagance fit for nobles tables yet done by a boy who lived alone in the woods for years. Yet you still gave him unrestricted access to the manor's kitchen, somehow not expecting him to go all out.
But he did.
Oh Hylia, he truly did.
"Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, how did you make river snails taste like that Link?! How did... any of this?" A defeated Mipha asks, slumped over the table amidst the piles of dishes.
"L-lady Zelda, I... was this how you ate at the castle?" A collapsed Paya asks, to which you can only numbly shake your head.
"I didn't even know any of this was possible..."
"Aw shucks guys, you're making me blush. This was just something I whipped up with having a few hours of preparation time," That culinary monster tells you, looking away and rubbing the back of his head nervously, with an actual blush, "I was worried I'd made too much for you guys, but I see I took too long and you were all starving!"
Like you could have STOPPED eating. The Salad, the main course! You half want to see him make your favorite fruit cake, just to see the twists he would put into it.
"M-may... may we stay here forever? So he keeps making these meals for us?" Mipha asks you, and you can't lie you honestly consider it. But no, you have a mission to do.
And it isn't because you fear what eating like this from now on would do to your waistline, not at all.
With the sun fully down now you all agree to turn in for the night after getting the dishes clean, something Mipha's minor water control actually helps greatly with. Link was on scrubbing duty, Mipha rinsed them off, you packed them away and Paya dried them.
Afterwards, you all cut through the courtyard to which you get to witness the rather strange sight of Mipha bellyflopping into the pond, floating on the surface face down and slowing sinking into its depths.
"Is... Is she okay?" Paya asks, and several bubbles and tired gurgling answered her.
"She's just tired, we should hurry and turn in as well."
You turn to Link, "Our rooms over that way. Have a good night Link," You tell him.
"Yeah, seeya both tomorrow."
Paya then bows low, stammering out "G-g-g-g-g-g-good night Master Link!" Before snapping upright and practically running from the courtyard.
You sigh and follow after her to the room you two share. It isn't long before your lying in your bed, staring up at the ceiling as you hear Paya writing in her diary. Everything in your room had been left exactly as you left it, Paya taking great pains not to move anything as she cleaned it. In many ways, it was almost like you had never left. What got you was how... disquieting it felt, mixed in with the joy of being home. It was a feeling you don't think you've ever experienced before, and you wonder why...
You hear Paya's pen stop and her turning towards you, "L-lady Zelda, are you going right to sleep and not writing in your Sheikah Slate tonight?"
"I'll write in a minute. I'm just.... I'm sleeping in my bed, in my home..."
"Lady Zelda?" Paya asks, worry clear in her voice.
"It's nothing Paya, I'm just... glad I could return home. Glad I could see you again."
A sigh of relief comes from the Sheikah girl, "I am too, Lady Zelda."
You look over to her, a smile stretching out your face before your reach over and grab your Sheikah Slate from your nightstand, typing in a new entry...
I'm Home...
++++
You are Link, and you hate everything right now.
"Is today not the most joyous of mornings Link!?" Sidon asks you, and you give a tired yes. The Zora Prince seems pleased by your response, as he leaves you alone to yawn and rub your eyes.
You wanted to sleep in, when was the last time you got to sleep in a rich person bed? Why did Zelda wake you at this awful hour?
"You're still sleepy Link? It's 10:30 AM!" An annoyed Zelda asks you, arms folded across her chest with a deep frown. Zelda was wearing some Sheikah style dress, her hair done up similar to Paya with a large bun and the rest of her cascading down her back. Paya was cleaning nearby, but you could see her looking towards you every so often, looking away and scrubbing extra hard whenever she saw you looking back.
You mutter something but evidently Zelda decoded your mumbled out response, as she gives you a small kick to get you off your rear.
"Look, as my guest it is my duty to show you and Mipha around town. So that means you don't get to sleep in!!"
You look towards Mipha, eyes wide and pleading but the traitorous fish looks away, towards the Sheikah girl doing her best to pretend not to be spying, "Isn't Paya going to come along?"
"Of course she is!"
"W-what?! L-lady Zelda I don't think..." Paya manages to get out before Zelda runs over and pulls the nervous girl to her feet.
"Nonsense! When was the last time we walked around town together? Oh it'll be just like those 'girls day out' like in Lon Lon Biyori! Except with the moping ratty grumpypants over there."
"Oi."
Zelda then rubs her chin, clearly realizing something, "Oh actually speaking of that, we might need to get some shopping done. All of Link's clothes are practically falling apart, and you look really out of place with all those cheaply made clothes compared to our Sheikah one's. We might even be able to apply Sheikah technology to that green tunic!"
"...Do I get a choice in any of this?"
"No."
