Winter is Coming: House Stark Quest

I don't get it. Just a couple of decisions earlier we were all gung ho to gank this Targ filth asap, and now we are borderline granting him legitimency?
He asked for a parley. I'm honestly curious what he intends to offer, and what he's thinking. At this point nobody's going to accept status quo ante bellum and that's about all Aegon can offer with a straight face: bend the knee, go home and there'll be no further retribution against you and yours. But we've clipped the dragon's wings so thoroughly that even if we accepted he lives on our sufferance, not the other way around.

[] Decline the truce. You're here to kill dragons and eat pigeon pie. And you're all out of fucking pigeons.

If Aegon still wants to parley when our wolf army finally sees the Golden Company, I'm willing to hear him out then. Otherwise... you started this round junior, unless you're surrendering all bets are off.

On the other hand, we could expect a truce meeting to be at a place of our choice.

We wouldn't be walking into his camp or anything, right @Charcolt?

Him trying something seems less likely under those circumstances.

Maybe another Faceless Man, but could he even afford one at this point.

Remember Daeron I's parley with the dornish! Remember Duskendale! Even if we accept the parley we need to bring lots of guards, make sure said guards are between us and them at all times, and make sure he comes to us.

No, you wouldn't walk into his camp. The truce would take place on neutral ground between your two camps (but closer to yours, as a concession). And you both would come with guards.

Voting to decline means you won't get another chance to talk before the fighting. This is your chance to see if he's interested in surrendering, offering some deal, etc.

Yeah, I think that things have gone a bit to far for talking to be an option.

King Robert: "Take the knee or die usurper."

You know, we could make our own offer here - we're not the Targs, and we don't give as much shits about the Golden Company supporting Blackfyre pretenders back in the day. Lots of houses have been unmade, and while we may not be able to offer their ancestral lands back, we might be able to arrange to let the Golden Company's 'nobles' get some lands or marry into houses or what have you if they'll bend the knee and hand over the Blackfyre pretender and his Targ wife.

Any write-in here would be premature. You'd need to accept a temporary truce to be in the position where you can offer/demand a surrender or any kinds of concessions from Aegon or from his officers. Marching directly into battle sort of takes that possibility away.

Hmmm.... y'know what, fuck it. I want to know what this idiot is thinking, or even if he's thinking. Let's hear the man out, give him a chance to say some last words before the mayhem.

[X] Accept the truce. You will meet with this King Aegon

The wording here is key: "He had come under a banner of truce, requesting a face-to-face meeting between the two men who called themselves rightful ruler of Westeros." By accepting, Robb all but acknowledges that FAegon has a claim to press for the right to the throne. That is unacceptable.

And more, FAegon has been confirmed to be an honorless dog by now anyway; it's pretty much public knowledge by now that the Targs were planning to burn King's Landing with Robb and Stannis inside it.

And to round it off, FAegon doesn't actually gain anything from meeting with us in the first place. What would FAegon get from negotiations? He's proven himself to be a rival for the iron throne willing and able to raise armies to usurp it from the sitting dynasty; he literally cannot be allowed to live after this point. So what would he be trying to negotiate for? The Golden Company's safe exodus from Westeros? That'd allow a known hostile force to leave unmolested after having murdered the realm's people and burned its holdings. It's unacceptable. And would the Golden Company even go? They've spent decades trying to put their own candidate onto the throne, and launched an invasion this time to see it done. They're pretty committed at this point. Seems kinda suspicious.

No, there's no reason to meet with this usurperous Lysian bastard pretender, and a number of reasons not to.

Fair enough. And the Golden Company did burn down Saltpans, so letting them stay without punishment could cause problems.

To paraphrase Robert Downey Jr., "you never go full Tully".

Yeah, I remember how the Baratheon meeting in canon went...this shouldn't be any better. Besides, even if (F?)Aegon is honorable enough to not assassinate us during the truce, who's to say some of his people will be just as "honorable"?

Argon proved to not be above using assasins and underhand tactics to get his way. Even burning Kings Landing to get his way.

I can think of at least one other instance of another king being killed in a truce like this one.

Daeron the First the Young Dragon.

....

We are the Young Wolf.

So no.

Ugh as much as I want to meet him, I just can't get over the fact that he assassinated Stannis. We'd look like the biggest schmuck in history if we get ourselves killed in this meeting.

Would it be a good idea to give lands, holdings and power to the guys who have supported the Blackfyre cause for generations ?

Hey, if he somehow survives the battle, Robb can have a chat with him then.

Since this is GoT, nothing is really sacred.
