Not really? Alice is a master of magical puppetry and can achieve a lot with runecraft and enchantments. She is better than Aoko Aozaki, the best puppeteer in the Nasuverse.
Not really. Different, but not really a power contest.
Mid childa makes cybernetic limbs accessible enough to use by anyone, but they have the logistics problem of a supply line and maintenance needs.

Aozaki's puppets can convey the soul through similarity, but she is focused on a single trick of perfectly replicating the human form and it is made as an art.

Alice is stronger in terms of biggatons, but much more limited in other respects. She can control and manipulate a greater variety, but they never aspire to be more than tools and artifice.

Each has their cons and pros. Alice's prosthetics will be at least very aesthetically pleasant (so are those Aozaki made). The MidChilda's ones are more functional and akin what you would expect from no magical but with more functions and lot more comfy than what you can get on Earth today. Alice's will not be even recognisable from the real deal, I think.

[X] Thank Aya for the offer and take Ilya to see Alice.

You shake your head, clearing it of distracting thoughts. Lulu isn't here, and Ilya is, so you have to focus on her. You smile at Aya but shake your head. "Thank you, but I think we'll be heading down for some business. Are you ready?" Ilya leans back and glances nervously over the railing.

"Can't she come up here?" You titter softly and tap her nose.

"That wouldn't be polite, Ilya. If you really want me to go bring her up here I can, but don't you think it would make a better impression if we go to her?" She takes a breath as she considers it, then nods slowly. "Don't worry, we'll all be right with you, right? And since that's true, the only people in this room who could possibly be a problem would be Aya and Reimu, and they won't do anything. So stay calm and be your usual charming self!" She chuckles and visibly relaxes. You grin at her before turning and bowing to Aya. "Thank you again. I hope you have a good time, and maybe stop in some time so we can get an interview set up."

"It was a pleasure meeting you, Aya. And - Hatate?" Ilya nods politely to the tengu as Leysritt takes hold of the wheelchair. Both tengu bow back to her.

"Yep! See you later, Einzbern-san," Aya says with a wave before gently holding back the other tengu with her free hand. You take Ilya along the gallery to the nearer set of stairs.

"Why don't you like the other girl?" You sigh and shake your head.

"I'm only judging her on the article I mentioned, which was certainly researched to some degree, but was also stupid and made assumptions and almost certainly didn't ask people's permissions. Either that girl is an idiot, or she wrote it intending to attract attention, and it can be hard to tell the difference sometimes. And if my sister is making Aya escort her whenever she comes here, that means that she doesn't like her at all, which is a perfectly good reason for me to not like her all on its own." You fall silent as you approach the stairs and float over the railing as Leysritt guides the chair down the stairs.

Most people don't notice your little caravan - only having side-staircases at the corner helps with avoiding attention, after all - but you keep an eye on the crowded room as your friend descends. Some people seem surprised, others interested, but the majority of people who see you go back to their own matters quickly. One of the few who reacts oddly is the blue-dressed shrine maiden standing with Reimu - she seems excited and points in your direction. Reimu pushes her arm down, but whatever the other shrine maiden says is enough to make her look back in your direction as well. Still, she holds the other shrine maiden back when she starts walking toward you. A very strange reaction, especially since most of the other people who notice you either seem to recognize you and go back to what they're doing, or don't recognize you and go back to what they're doing. Ilya reaches the bottom of the stairs and you descend as the two shrine maidens enter the beginnings of a spirited discussion.

"So is anything interesting happening?" You shrug and pat Ilya's head as you start walking toward Alice's table.

"Maybe. That Sanae shrine maiden seemed excited about us coming down for some reason. It shouldn't be anything to worry about, but maybe I'll go see what's got her so excited once you and Alice have been properly introduced." Ilya gives you an unhappy look at that but doesn't say anything. Well … maybe you can stay. You pat her head again and she squirms before smoothing her hair unnecessarily. You grin and hurry forward as you approach Alice's table. Some more people are noticing you now - some because they're paying attention to Alice and others just because you're entering their lines of sight - but you ignore them and press forward. A pair of red-haired dolls advance toward you, and you stop just in front of them. "Alice Margatroid?" Ilya slows to a halt a few steps behind you and Alice turns her head to glance at you. You nod and approach the table as the dolls float aside, waving Ilya forward as well. A black-bound tome, wrapped with pale red ribbons, sits on the table next to the magician.

"You must be Flandre Scarlet. I don't believe we've ever met." You nod again and take a seat as the magician's golden eyes study your wings. You raise one, displaying the gems, and lower it when she glances at Ilya before turning her attention back to you.

"We haven't, although I've seen you in the library with Patchouli. This is Illyasviel von Einzbern. Ilya, this is Alice Margatroid." Alice studies Ilya.

"Good afternoon, Alice. I - Patchouli seemed to think you were one of the better options for helping me." Ilya holds the magician's gaze admirably and Alice nods thoughtfully before taking a note from a blonde doll hovering at her shoulder. She slides it toward you. It's a letter from your sister, asking her to consider taking a job that would test her skills as a puppet-master and artificer, and that she would be compensated quite handsomely for her assistance. You slide it over to Ilya; she winces after reading it but nods.

"… You aren't human, are you? Any of you?" You raise your eyebrows; Ilya's eyes widen as well, but she nods in assent.

"My servants are homunculi, artificially created humans; I was born of a homunculus mother and human father." Alice frowns and raises her cup to her lips, keeping her eyes locked on Ilya. "I was injured when my father was attacked by a rival magician. He did not think he could take care of me himself, so he tried sending me after Lady Remilia and Lady Flandre, hoping that since she used to rule over the lands his family is from, she would agree to help. I … I suppose that she has." Alice glances at you before sighing.

"Creating a mechanical graft is not something that would be particularly difficult, nor do I see why Patchouli could not arrange something on her own." You try not to frown or glare - you aren't supposed to be Ilya's friend, at least not right now. Besides, Alice is interested, or else she would have just refused to help. Ilya looks down unhappily.

"Lady Illyasviel, perhaps you should show Miss Margatroid your magic." Everyone looks up at Sella, and Ilya nods in agreement.

"Yes. Alice." Alice turns her attention back to Ilya, and red traceries begin forming on her face, glowing faintly, spreading down her neck and becoming visible on her left arm. Alice frowns and leans forward as Ilya continues the effect for several more seconds. You look around the room, but no one seems to care that much about the little display except some fairies who quickly scurry back into the crowd. "I'm sorry. My magic … it is bound up in those crests, and they extended through my arm and leg. The attack that crippled me also disrupted them, and while Patchouli is working on restoring them, but she seems to be having trouble with the scale and level of detail required." Alice nods.

"So I would be asked not simply to create the replacement limbs, but also to make sure they connect to your - crests, you said? And it isn't so much that Patchouli is unable to do the work herself as that she either does not want to take the time away from her own pursuits to take the time to do it properly, or there is another complicating factor beyond the integration of flesh and whatever is chosen to replace it and she wants assistance so she can concentrate on one factor at a time." She leans forward and laces her fingers together, staring at Ilya. "Admittedly, I've never worked with a living subject before -" A flash of light draws your attention away from Alice for a moment. You look around, then up at Aya. She waves, holding her camera with her other hand, then points at something in the crowd. You glance in the direction she's pointing, but whatever she wants you to see is blocked by the people. Unless that's what she wanted you to see, but that'd be weird even for her.

What do you do?

[ ] Aya's being weird. Stay with Ilya and keep up with the conversation.

[ ] Politely excuse yourself and go see what has Aya riled.

[ ] Stay here, but keep an eye out for trouble.

Maybe Some battles going on? Doesn't really seem interesting, but evidence suggests that Sanae and Reimu are probably dueling due to their heated argument a while ago.

Uh, Subaru's body looked ENTIRELY normal until you deal major damage. It even bleeds properly until you get past the skin entirely to expose the metal.
Meanwhile we've never seen Alice work with anything other than cloth, and wood.

Also Illya will be interested in Alice's Grimoire. It's not a Grail but still should be very powerful and dangerous artifact.

I have seen theories before that Alice's Grimoire might actually be taken from Shinki from the old days. If that's true, expect drama if Shinki shows up.

EDIT: Question @Entropy Judge ,

Can Flandre survive in a vacuum, I mean, she doesn't need to use her lungs, right? Or would the pressure of space be too much for her?

Well, I guess the Knight armor would double as a space suit, though, but we'd need to make sure we don't get hit if we can't survive in space.

The short answer is: longer than a human. The long answer would require me to do some research on the effects of vacuum and then see how Flan's partially-biological setup would handle it. She can compensate with her magical energy, to help stabilize her homeostasis and heal injuries, but I'd have to figure out relative costs and such.

You wave irritatedly at Aya and return to paying attention to Ilya and Alice. Whatever she saw can wait, or resolve itself without your interference - it's not like anyone would be stupid enough to try something here, especially with Reimu just across the room. "- would be a new experience. I usually work with cloth, and sometimes wood or ceramic." Another blonde doll floats toward Ilya and bows before spinning slowly to let her look. She reaches her hand out for a moment, then hesitates and looks at Alice. The doll simply flies forward into her hand, and she smiles as she studies it more closely.

"It's very well-made … and you made all of these?" Alice nods proudly and takes another drink of her tea.

"All of these and many more. Again, I'm more familiar with softer materials, but if Patchouli is going to be working with me instead of trying to make me do everything, that shouldn't be a problem." Ilya nods and the doll bows and floats back to a security position.

"And … my size won't be a problem? I'm a bit bigger than these, after all." Alice smiles.

"Oh, I've made bigger dolls. Replacing the arm and leg as you grow will be -" She breaks off as Ilya shakes her head.

"I won't get any bigger, so that won't be a problem." Alice simply nods; it's not exactly unusual, after all. Ilya shakes her head again and looks back up at the magician. "Then, if - I mean, you would be willing -" Ilya's hesitant questions break off when Alice turns away, her dolls shifting to a more defensive but non-threatening position. You turn as well and see the second shrine maiden slowing to a fast walk as she breaks out of the crowd, an excited look on her face. Reimu follows more slowly, looking more fed up than anything. You start to slip out of your chair, but the other shrine maiden doesn't actually pay you any attention - for some reason, she's fixated on Ilya and her servants.

"Aaaah! I knew it! You look just like her!" You blink as the shrine maiden stops a few meters from you, then look at Reimu. The crowd is definitely paying attention to you now that she's involved … although it is also giving some space.

"Reimu, what's going on?" Gensokyo's shrine maiden shrugs.

"She said she knew who that girl was and wanted to meet her." As you look back at the second shrine maiden she turns to face you and levels her strange wand at you.

"And you! I bet you and your sister kidnapped her and made those two to look like that for your own selfish reasons. And you crippled her so she couldn't run away, didn't you?" You blink owlishly at her glare.

"You … think you know who I am?" The shrine maiden doesn't look away but nods once.

"Mm-hm. At least, I know who you're supposed to look like. But don't worry. Once I get Reimu to do her job," Reimu rolls her eyes and sighs, "we can go back to the shrine and get you back home to your parents."

"And who is that you believe Lady Illyasviel to resemble?" For the first time, the shrine maiden's composure cracks, and she turns a confused look on Ilya and her servants.

"Eh? But … she looks like, ah, Illyasviel von Einzbern," she says, mangling the pronunciation a bit but obviously getting the name right. "She's a character from a video game in the outside world. It used to be really popular, but I guess if they know about it, it must have failed somehow. Anyway!" You tune her out and sneak a look at Reimu; no longer disinterested, she looks both stern and thoughtful. That's not a good sign, probably.

"Character …?" Your head snaps back to Ilya. Sella seems confused by the shrine maiden's revelation, but Ilya seems outright stunned. Worried, even. You aren't sure why that is, but the fact of the matter is that she is upset, and it's this strange shrine maiden's fault - this strange girl, stranger to Gensokyo, who you've never met before. Can you throw her out of the party? Almost certainly; it wouldn't end well, and you would cause trouble for Remilia again, but you could do it. Maybe you should send your clones to get her instead? You could try to talk her down, but the way you're feeling you'd probably say something to make the situation worse. She's probably at least as good at you as danmaku - not that high a bar, really - and Reimu might step in if you try to actually bully her into leaving. But you have to do something ….

What do you do?

[ ] Send your clones to get Remilia.

[ ] Throw Sanae out of the party.

[ ] Bully her.

[ ] Other?

DM Note: 'Bullying' is more along the lines of aggressively chastising Sanae and obfuscating the facts to make her admit to getting things wrong. I … don't know how successful it will be! But Flandre will be rather worked up (well, she's going to be worked up anyway …), so if you want to try and add some points to make, keep in mind that they can't be too complex.

Oh no. I expected this. I should have said something.

Just like armored core fan fic.

-[X] Stop Sanae from upsetting Illya more by interrupting and telling her that Illya is your guest and new friend who came to you and your sister for help.

We don't want to be that aggressive, just get a bit angry, pretty much, but not enough to throw her out.

Anyone would be angry if they claimed you hurt and forced one of your bestest friends into submission, and even dismembered her. Let's show her (verbally) why that's not a good idea.

Though, I doubt our ability to keep calm after we get angry.

Also, who's to say Satori (if she's here) and Yukari would know who she is as well?

So, I think that Rude Shrine Maiden thinks the F/SN game faded out of public consciousness to end up in Gensokyo, whereupon the Scarlet Devil Mansion found a copy and decide to kidnap an Ilya look-a-like for fun and/or an Incident. Something like that?

I'm not sure why Ilya is so affected by the idea, but maybe it's she (partly) an artificial human made for someone's schemes, so the suggestion of everything she knows being fake isn't that much of a stretch?

ugh.
Ilya will probably get more upset if the Rude Shrine Maiden keeps talking, which make the pause to get Remilia problematic, along with more publicity for the idea.
Throwing her out without consulting Remilia is disruptive and noticable, even if she did just probably insult the hosts and claim a guest was fictitious (sort of), which is a faux pas in most parties I've been to.
Bullying could go great or go horribly. We'd be acting in front of a crowd, and probably more worked up than would fit our story about Ilya's presence. And it's a weird sort of accusation to answer :V

If this were a different world I'd default to throwing her through a window. *sigh*

I can't decide! >_<

I wonder how the existence of F/SN and Ilya will be explained? Someone with unconscious clairvoyance was involved with the game and wrote in the 'imaginary' characters in his head? Might even be true in this case.

Ok we should have seen something like this coming with Sanae involved but now the happening is on and we need to go full damage control.
Straight up throwing her out or insulting her would definitely be seen as some kind of admission of guilt so we need to defuse it with talking.

[] Send your clones to get Remilia.
-[] Make Sanae explain what she means
-[] Explain in turn that Illya is in fact from the outside world and is currently in the Mansion to get the help she needs.
--[] Since Illya is our guest it would be greatly appreciated if she didn't upset her further otherwise she will have to face the consequences for being disruptive.

I hope my votecrafting is kind of ok for this.
The main part here is to get Sanae to stop making a scene and getting it across to Reimu that Illya is here out of her own free will and hopefully keep them from escalating until Remi shows up to either explain further and deescalate a bit more diplomatically than Flan would be able to. Being agressive towards Sanae can only make things worse and we don't want to involve Illya as the centerpiece of a new Incident.
If all else fails then its probably time for Danmaku, hopefully without Reimu being involved.

edit: took out vote

We need to explain that she is our friend. However, this does not mean that Ilya would take it nicely, either.

Changed vote to that.

I was letting the friend part out mostly because according to the cover story we aren't really that close but i can see Flan bursting that out because she is quite a bit livid right now.
So im gonna change my vote.
Im also wondering how Illya will react to that, she wont just sit there and let everyone talk about this without involving herself.

Barrier Jackets are designed for at least high altitude flight, see Nanoha Season 1, where Nanoha did the Gundam style orbital insertion in one. I'm not sure how that deals with outright space but it should offer protection from the oxygen level, temperature and pressure of high altitude.
