Winter is Coming: House Stark Quest

I personally think that if we want to delay as much as possible, my option is best for it, especially as that option is also based on Joffrey's character, but I think it's obvious we're going for trial by combat. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if even if Ned won we'd die, probably due to it going something like the climactic duel in Gladiator.
Remember the parable of Nasreddin and the singing horse
I prefer the Moishe and the Graf version, where Moishe owes the Graf money and manages to delay his imprisonment for a year by promising to make the Graf's dog sing, and upon being questioned, says: "In a year, I might die, the Graf might die, the dog might die."

[JK] "Excuse me, People of King's Landing, do you have a moment to talk about the gospel of our lord and savior, Jesus Christ Superstar?"
Because since Robb is the Son and Eddard is the father, all we need now is the Holy Ghost.

IIRC, Renly does this stupid charge at dawn with the sun in his men's eyes. So let's not count Stannis out yet.
Renly has enough of a numbers advantage that he can handle an initial defeat (even if it IS a defeat and not merely a costly victory) and just go, "Welp, I'm shit at this. Lord Tarly, you take over for tomorrow," and beat Stannis the next day.

Loras was going to take part in that charge from what I can remember.

If he dies Renly won't be acting very rationally.

"And I am here to tell you a story. Some moon turns ago, King Robert came to Winterfell, to ask me to to be his Hand. I wanted to refuse, loath as I was to leave my beloved North. Then dark wing brought me darker words, tales of conspiracy and secrets, that the good Jon Arryn was murdered! King Robet was a brother to me and I could not leave him in such danger, so I became his Hand. Since I have come to King's Landing, I have been beset on all sides by vipers whispering poisoned words. None cared for the King and his blood, only for their own twisted designs! My ears filled with half-truths and poison, I took what action I thought best. In the end, my acts brought only sorrow, my household slain and my body maimed. As I lay chained, I realized I had fallen for a plot of a Spider and a Mockingjay, to pit Wolf against Stag and Lion, to bring chaos to the realm and pave the way for the return of the mad Dragons! I have played the fool, that I freely admit, but never was I the traitor! It may have been inevitable that I fail my King and his line; what do I know of secret plots and cunning words? I am of the North, I know the frozen winds of winter and the bitter song of steel. I say again, I am a fool, but I shall never be a traitor! I shall always serve Robert and his blood as best as I can, and if I would be called false, then let the gods judge me! I DEMAND TRIAL BY COMBAT!"

That should be vague enough so Ned doesn't commit to anything damning, throws Varys and Balish under the bus, puts on a good show for the crowd, and perhaps buys enough goodwill so that we get some time allocated for a champion to arrive/time for news of all those lovely Lannister hostages to arrive.

Which means all Randlys Tarly has to do is declare his plan to be the way to kill Stannis the hardest.

[X] "And I come before you to confess my treason in the sight of gods and men."

So...can Robb

if we do. It has to be symbolic like over a weirwood tree. Intestines on it and stuff

Why? Simple execution. "You broke the king's peace, invaded these lands, incited violence and mayhem." Then take their heads with a sword.

Ned executed the deserter that way. Quick and efficient.

Edit: Hmm @Charcolt I guess the deserter was just a deserter? Not some guy running from the wights.

Faceless man as champion!

The power of Interpretive Dance will save us all! :p

Yeah but it we do that. I'll be memorable because for the first time in the norths history. We would be marrying someone outside of the north for two generations. Lady( Queen)stark would be a southerner. IMHO it would be a lot easier to assure the north that we are a northern and stark king and not just some tully kid. A kid who can win battles but still.

Edit: Typing on mobile sucks

"And I come before you to speak the truth. Joffrey is a bastard born of incest between Cersei Lannister and the Kingslayer, and is not your rightful king! I have been charged falsely with treason, and my daughter's life was threatened so that I might falsely confess here before you and dishonor King Robert's memory! I will receive no fair trial in a Lannister court, so I shall have the gods judge me! I DEMAND TRIAL BY COMBAT!"

This seems too long winded. I don't think that Joffrey or Cersei will give Ned that long to speak once it's obvious he's not confessing - he needs something brief and to the point, like...

"And I come before you to speak the truth. Joffrey is a bastard born of incest between Cersei Lannister and the Kingslayer, and is not your rightful king! Sorry, but that speech sounds horribly pompous to my ears. Also, far too long for the situation.

Even a simple "...and the truth is that Joffrey is illegitimate and not Robert's son at all! I demand trial by combat!" would be better than that, IMHO.

Enjou's version manages a nice balance between brevity and comprehensiveness, so if we must have a write-in speech rather than leaving it to the GM, let's use that one.
