Edit: Wait do animal deaths count?

She only wore patched, second-hand clothes, that obviously didn't protect their first owners, given she had acquired them on the job, as her elder would have said.
So we have at least one of the murder hobo skills down pat, that'll save some time and moralizing.

[X] [changeling] You are a beloved child of the forest, and nature shall never impede you. As a matter of fact, roots and lakes will not only allow you passage, but ease your way.

I'm not really keen on any of the changeling boons, but I like this best. Just getting where we need to be at the best possible speed, I like it. Illusions might be more useful overall, but I've never liked them and SV isn't great at handling them anyway. I was going to pick Wild Beast at first, but that's a bit too situational, the geasa thing I just don't understand.

[X] [Keeper of Gray] You grow with death. With each burial, your strength grows as the echoes of the dead finds home in you.

I love both of these and would be happy with either, but I'm a brute at heart and I voted sword to sword things. Being a nimble little fuck is fun, but crushing an orks head between your fingers is more fun~

the geasa thing I just don't understand
A geas (geasa is the plural) is basically a taboo. However, as long as you keep it, you will be stronger in some way. If you break it, however, you will be weakened (and probably get killed, it's a good idea to keep them secret or your enemies will use them against you).

For exemple, an Emoulin fisherman could accept a Geas from a water fae that states "you shall eat no other meat but that of a fish". As long as he keeps to it, he will sail and fish better and be able to find his way back even in treacherous waters. Since the geas is basically "live from the sea", it makes sense that he'd be at ease with all things related to it.

Now, let's say that a rival, angry that he's getting so much fish, learns of his geas, he could slip some piece of bacon in his food, and the next time the fisherman goes to fish, well, at best he won't catch anything and at worse he won't ever come back.

This is why lies are so rare in Emoulin. With geasa flying around, you keep your goddamn word (which is why poor Lirra doesn't get sarcasm and believes pretty much everything you say to her).

Given I doubt fishing will be of much interest for this quest, you can have "Protect the weak" (boosts your combat skill when doing so, but don't leave them to their fate no matter what) "Accept all challenges and show no mercy in them" (you pretty much can't lose a duel, but you better hope no drunken friend of yours challenges you as a jest or one of you will have to die) and so on.

Also, usually one needs to accept it, though in some cases, such as when one doesn't do what he is required to do, a geas can be forced (for exemple someone breaking the laws of hospitality could have one either to follow them and more, or to right the wrongs he caused others by breaking it in the first place).

'I protect them as well, just in another way', she had thought all these nights.
she was an actual knight! And she came to rescue her
Lirra is way too adorable.
"I-I'm sure. I want to be a knight," Lirra answered with what determination she could put in her voice.
Way too adorable.
"Wait, did she call me her friend?"

It worked! She hadn't even stepped inside the academy and she already made a friend! Coming here was the best decision she ever made!
Someone hold me. My heart, it can only take so much before it explodes from the adorable-ness overdose.

Not sure how I feel about this so far...But I'll give it a shot.

Changing vote, going with my gut again.

This sounds like an excellent trickster build.

Wow this quest is really cute. *wonders how much cuter it will be when we go to Los Angeles hell city.

[] [changeling] You can lay particularly potent geasa, allowing for greater boons than others, as well as more dire consequences should they be broken.

Will almost inevitably bite us in the ass, pass.

[] [changeling] You are a beloved child of the forest, and nature shall never impede you. As a matter of fact, roots and lakes will not only allow you passage, but ease your way.

Situational as all hell and not terribly useful even when it activates. Even if we can ask plants to beat the shit out of people, that's only in forested areas while every other biome leaves us without an advantage. How is this meant to compete with animals and illusions?

[] [changeling] As one born of the wilds, wild beasts recognise you as one of their own, and shall never attack you, and even heed your words and serve you.

Very nice, especially if we can get dire animals on our side. Scouts, meatshields, team mascots, it'd be nice to have balls of fluff and feathers keeping us company. Puppy blankets on command anyone? (Probably possum/raccoon/wolf pups, but it's the idea that counts.)

Illusions are amazing sheerly through how insanely versatile they are. 'Summon' dragons to scare off enemies, apply a flawless disguise in seconds, hide anywhere, make the enemy think they've killed you and counterattack.
Not being able to lie? Annoying, but the Fey have been getting around it for centuries and so can we, especially if our illusions can mimic sound.

I think you're focusing a little too much on combat applications, there. Fae-like boons can be extremely useful and versatile if you know how to use them correctly-- the exact same caveats as illusions, really-- and being able to walk through rough terrain without being impeded (or even being helped along) can be incredibly useful as a utility power. That said, the latter is less useful if we can't bestow it on others, especially if we pick up the "growing with death" power-- that indirectly lessens our survivability overall, so we'll initially depend more on allies than we would otherwise. No point in being able to scout if we can't easily escape any dangers we encounter.

Also, don't think not being able to lie is a downside of picking the illusion power. Given that it showed up in the Gates vote (mentioned offhandedly in the Gate of the Cloak option, if you want to double-check), pretty sure it's a weakness we'll have anyway.

Of course I'm focusing on combat applications, we've signed up to become a warrior. If we wanted to be something else I'd be all too happy to examine the other options, but we didn't. We've decided that we'll be a fighter, and while having one type of rough terrain not be an issue is nice, it's unlikely to help us win or avoid the majority fights.

Edit: Fae boons are very helpful, right up until they bury you. Would you kindly name one old tale where someone who accepted a boon had a happy ending?

It isn't just one type of rough terrain, though-- even just taking it solely from the text, it's undergrowth, rivers, and lakes. That said, this is supposed to be a generic fantasy setting; that means forests are going to be everywhere, so the fact that this is most useful in forested biomes is like deriding sailing skills as only useful at sea-- in a pirate game. :p

Furthermore, given that the QM said paladins would be either priests that occasionally sword or knights that occasionally miracle, it seems to me that Gates can dabble in other specializations if they want to. In that light, I don't see any reason why abilities with more general applications couldn't be useful, if we spec'd ourselves that way-- and I say this as someone who ultimately voted for illusions.
