Welcome to the Worm CYOA, version 5: Gimel Edition! This is a text-based adventure in the Worm setting, a usually grimdark world of superheroes, supervillains, and hard men and women making hard decisions for usually the wrong and right reasons simultaneously.
(Uh.)
Before playing, you will need to set several parameters to define your scenario, as well as the all-important step of making your character! To start with, let's take a look at the overall world setting:
Gestation <<<
Gold Morning
Golden Age
Unworthy Opponent
Cycle Continues
You have chosen the
Gestation setting. Your game will begin on
April 08, 2011, and will remain strapped to canon's rails until you inevitably wreck them, on purpose or otherwise.
(Hang on, I didn't choose jack shit!)
(Wait.)
(Wait, yes I did? Huh?)
Next, please choose your character's path. This will determine your available points to spend on powers and resources, as well as your role in the world of Earth Bet.
Hero
Villain
Vigilante
Rogue
Conspirator
Endbringer <<<
You have chosen the
Endbringer path. On this path, you won't be a super-anything, or even a human. The entire world will be against you, unless you can pull off some very impressive social-fu. Are you sure you want to embark on this path?
(No!)
Yes
Yes <<<
(...you son of a bitch.)
For now, let's go a little out of order, and select your Flaws first. For each Flaw you select, you will gain an additional power slot, but beware the consequences!
Sibling Rivalry <<<
All At Once
Worthy Opponent <<<
Dormant Periods
(Wait no)
You have chosen
Sibling Rivalry! Other Endbringers will not consider you one of them and will see you as a viable target for their attacks.
(Wait!)
You have chosen
Worthy Opponent! You will periodically be compelled to engage in acts of terrible destruction, just like the other Endbringers. Have fun with that.
With the addition of the two Flaws you have selected, you now have FOUR powers to select from the list provided below! Please note that we've made a few adjustments from the base game.
Power Select
[ ]Telekinesis: Move stuff with the sheer force of your will
[ ]Power Mimic: Copy powers from nearby capes
[ ]Temporal Control: Create areas of looping time
[ ]Gravity: Manipulate local gravity, in an area or applied to objects
[ ]Illusions: Manipulate the sensory input of anyone in sight to create illusions
[ ]Summoning: Create temporary minions suited to your overall theme
[ ]Sandbox: Wider-scale area control to warp your surroundings to your whims
[ ]Elementalism: Take control of an element on a scale ninjas don't dare to dream of (Restriction: Hydrokinesis disabled)
[ ]Write-in: Create or choose a power from the regular cape sets and have it scaled up to Endbringer strength!
This option costs 2 powers. (Restriction: Pre/post-cognition, Mind Control, Tinkering/Megastructures, Dynakinesis, and Path to Victory disabled)
(Why are you using brackets all of a sudden?)
(Are those voting brackets? Those had better not be voting brackets.)
Just a couple more things left! First, choose your overall size. Endbringers are large!
Size Select
[ ]~5 Meters
[ ]5 to 15 Meters
[ ]15 to 40 Meters
And you can't forget to design your form.
Appearance
[ ]Mostly Humanoid
[ ]Beastial
[ ]Write-in, if there's something specific you have in mind
(Oh my god those are voting brackets. NO.)
Now that your character has been made, it's time to start the game! You'll be dropped into a roughly familiar location, and
(STOP)
it will be up to you to decide how
(Hold the FUCK up!)
the fate of Earth Bet will go and will you
please stop going off script? Or at least stop complaining.
(...you can hear me.)
Read you, actually. Semantics. Although neither is really necessary since I am you, but again, details.
(
I'm writing this?! And I'm letting the
internet make decisions?! That is a horrible idea I want off this ride. Especially if it's me. That gives me awful odds on this not being horrifying. Why the hell would I do this?)
Because I am nourished by your tears.
(wat)
Have fun relying on SV for survival!
(Oh my god
I am the worst)
…
(Hooookay. Welp. SV, I guess it's your turn. If I am allowed any requests, it's two things: one, stick with the forum rules and
don't get weird, and two,
don't start the physics debates. I know the latter is probably a futile hope, but… please.)
(Oh, also-- I need some volunteers for a thing, because adding another layer of surprise and meta is delightful. Namely, I need a few other authors who want to write Interludes to PM me so we can set up a thing and keep the overall scenario out of my and the thread's control. It's like three different groups of GMs all conspiring against each other!)
(Yeah, I miss Paranoia too.)
