For the first vote, I don't want to try to manipulate demons into doing good. That's just begging for things to go wrong. Though, the downside of telling Giles and Buffy is that Buffy doesn't currently know about Xander spending time at the demon bar.

As for Marcie, I'd rather ask Marcie what she wants to do. Does she even want to be introduced?

I get asking her, but perhaps affirming her existence is better for her than giving her the option to not? (Also technically there isn't a write in for that decision.) From a purely strategic standpoint her being unknown is in our favor for defense and espionage, but Marcie isn't a tool she is a person and our friend. Again asking makes sense and is a good gesture, but Marcie was confused but clearly pleased when we found her and tried to reason with her, I think she more likely will be accepting of the reveal than against it? Also you never know... it could lead to ways to allow her to become visible. (I am very interested in if we get her a costume for Halloween if she would become visible or just an invisible version of that thing, we can't let it be something monstrous though. I'm looking forward to that episode.)

Letting Giles / Buffy know lets us hopefully skip much of the Reptile Boy ickiness. Buffy learning about our demon bar hangouts probably isn't going to be great, since while Ford's whole thing is way worse there are similarities there. At least we're not trying to become a vampire.

We've done write-ins for votes where there was no write-in option in the past, but if @Blacksheep prefers, then I'll remove my write-in vote.

As for your first statement, I don't really like taking away other characters' agency. For me, letting people decide for themselves is generally better than deciding for them, even if they might make a "bad" decision. After all, Xander in-quest has the mentality of a teenage boy with the memories of an adult. It's quite possible for him to make a "wrong" decision or badly execute a good idea, just like how he flubbed trying to get everyone to participate in group activities to reduce the group's stress levels.

I like the write-in. At worst, I'm fine with it being ignored. I think acknowledging Marcie is good for her.

As for telling Giles and Buffy, well they've got to find out about Xander's info gathering sometime. However, they're not my main concern. This info feeding to the slayer will demonstrate Xander's loyalties and priorities to the bar. I expect that will prompt some of them to at least consider plugging that leak of information to their foe. Giles will argue that Xander should never go back to the bar. Buffy will agree, and might also burn the bar down or something.

Speaking this information is good, but I think it'll also make things complicated.

Xander already told Giles about the bar, but my understanding is that the others don't know. As for it demonstrating Xander's loyalties, Buffy thwarted the Master's resurrection based on info from the bar that she received from Giles so it won't be definite proof for the demons. We will need to keep an eye out for if the demons start recognizing the pattern though.

On the plus(?) side, some of the demons might already know and be setting the Slayer on their enemies. They complained a lot about the vampires behind the resurrection plot.

Unrolling Choices
Marcie was unsure when you asked her if she wanted to be introduced to the others at the bar. It was easy to understand. She was invisible because of people purposely choosing to turn away from her. If she didn't reach out, she didn't have to be rejected. You didn't know if it was best to let her wait on this or try to encourage her. You weren't in her situation after all. You could do with less attention at times, and you had friends you could rely on.

You found a chance to talk to Giles and Buffy about the cult at the university preparing sacrifices. Buffy was quick to grab onto the invitation with Cordelia to a frat party to get in and start looking around. It was slightly stressful to have Buffy come back out with a drugged Cordelia. Funnily enough this was a good sign, as it meant Buffy had gotten to Cordelia before she woke up to the demon trying to eat her, but seeing Cordelia so helpless did make your heart squeeze in distress.

Halloween was coming up. And not just any Halloween. The Halloween when Ethan turned everyone into their costumes. You could use this.

It makes sense that Marcie would be torn on whether to reveal herself. Honestly, I'm not sure that revealing her existence to demons is a good idea anyway. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of humans who both know about the supernatural and are friendly outside of the Scoobies. Can Marcie interact with people online, or will the computer start turning invisible if she touches it for too long?

I don't think that Cordelia would much appreciate Xander watching out for her, but maybe she'd be willing to go with the others for free ice cream? Probably not, but it wouldn't hurt to offer.

I'm not voting now because I'm not sure what to go for with the costumes. Assuming that any magic probably won't stick around or work well after Halloween is over, what's the most skilled costume we can go with? Chuck Norris?

I'm pretty sure Chuck Norris is reality breaking XD Marcie could chat online without problems, it's just not really a thing people do yet. Only people who are really into computer programming like Willow currently chats online. Mrs Calendar is in fact very advanced as a computer user since she already figured out how to cast magic through the internet

Given that Xander maintained some of his military knowledge after the events we should try and at least do something to try and get that free knowledge. Potentially this is because he specifically dressed as himself as a solider, but we don't really know.

I kinda want to help pick costumes out with the group, for the purposes of the quest do you want us to list thoughts in the vote or leave it for the next update?

As for the other bit, I'm not against doing Ice Cream, just want to think if there is a write in I want to do for that more.

Wonder what costume could help them?
Marcie could dress as someone like Violet or Susan Storm... though I wonder what'll happen if the ritual goes uninterrupted?

Also will the PTB try to balance it out?

One or the other for me, of these two

This is another episode I'm unfamiliar with, and have no idea what ritual might be happening.

[x]Costume plan
-[x]Pick out a costume: what do you want to be?
--[x]Forge, of the X-Men
-[x]Help friends pick out costumes (In order of priority)
--[x]Marcie: The Invisible Woman
--[x]Willow: Scarlet Witch
--[x]Buffy: Doom Slayer
--[x]Giles: The Question
--[x]Cordelia: Princess Zelda

Reasoning
Marcie: The Invisible Woman (Broader powers and active control over her invisibility)
Willow: Scarlet Witch (somebody who isn't always good, but generally gets redemption arcs and learns knowledge herself. Contrast with Zatanna's bloodline.)
Buffy: Doom Slayer (No reason beyond I want this Halloween to be memorable for all the town's baddies, and for evil to universally recognize just how good they have things normally)
Giles: The Question (The extensive distrust of authority, combined with investigative skills will hopefully drive Giles to some early character growth. Even if not, I doubt harm will happen)
Cordelia: Princess Zelda (Multiball combo of: 1. Wisdom 2. Bait and switch attempt with Buffy, to distract the villains. Zelda tends to have a proactive personality at times, despite appearing as an ideal kidnapping target.)

I debated a lot between Forge and Green Lantern. I think the possibility of residual mutant powers, however unlikely, is worth the build time problem. Also, if there's opportunity, Forge's powers to build a computer or something might be really handy and a built computer might outlast the event. Green Lantern is also commonly and explicitly weak against magic.

Other ideas I tossed around for Xander
Batman (Residual general skills boost? Not like Batman's skills are entirely lacking with other people here though)
Sherlock Holmes (Same issues as Batman)
Dr Strange (More magic? Doesn't seem super helpful)
Halo's Masterchief (I mean, I don't like demons either, but combining this choice with Buffy's Slayer feels more in line with a speed run attempt on the event instead of long term planning)

I don't think we're going to convince Buffy to dress up as the Doom Slayer. Canonically, she dressed up as a noble woman to impress Angel if I remember correctly. We're also not likely to convince Cordelia to change her costume from a cat lady. Giles had a mispent youth where he distrusted authority and did a ritual with a demon, which is why he was assigned Buffy after he repented. The Watchers didn't expect Buffy to last long.

As for Xander as Forge, Xander doesn't really have a lot of funds so I don't know if he could afford to build a lot. Maybe if Willow bought everything so that they could work together, but that feels like taking advantage of Willow. Batman knows a lot of stuff on different topics so he's a good possibility. I also like Marcie and Willow's costumes.

I'm going to assume that we won't have a perfectly free reign on costume choices, because its only the ones enchanted by Ethan that will work. I also don't think we'll get to convince all of our friends into whatever we can pick, but its more fun if we can help one of two. Also for costumes its 1997 so that may or may not apply further limits to costumes. Now additionally the costumes people got were not specific characters in media in the original episode, but more archetypes and creatures, however that could've just been because of licensing things we don't have to care about in this quest.

I don't have a better idea that Xander could reasonably actually do, so a simple comfort feels like its not a bad idea.

My second vote is basically a modified version of @Tascion's plan. I'm pretty sure that all of those characters existed back then, and I'm going with Batman for Xander because Batman has a wide range of knowledge and skills. Xander won't be able to fight like a Slayer, but he might have an easier time seeing weak points and using his surroundings to his advantage. He'll also hopefully remember useful stuff when we need him to.

A Chaotic Halloween
Your suggestion this time for going out for ice cream went down a lot better. Everyone talked and relaxed, and when you split up it was a good hour later with the tension of the day cleared away. You had successfully helped the group unwind and feel safe after the crazy cult incident. It wasn't perfect, but the success buoyed you up the entire way back home.

With Halloween coming up you found yourself doing your best to make plans. Whatever costume you put together had to be as cheap as possible with your funds. Most of your friends thankfully had better funds than you did. Buffy was currently completely mooning over Angel, which had you shifting uncomfortably. Angel being further integrated into the group helped, but the vampire still pinged you as a threat to keep a close eye on. Angel revealed that he planned to spend Halloween out of the way, which immediately had Buffy wanting to also take the night off. Giles was agreeable with that, as Halloween was supposed to be quiet supernatural wise. Of course, this was the Hellmouth. Rules were bent or outright broken here.

You went as a group down to Ethan's costume shop and started browsing through it all. Buffy was of course drawn to the more elegant gowns, clearly dreaming of impressing Angel with her outfit. You dug around for a while before you found a couple cheap pieces you could use for a detective costume. You would have loved to go as Batman, but you just couldn't afford anything Batman. There were pieces you could maybe use for a Batman mask, but you were afraid the magic might be keyed to a different character you didn't know. At least a magnifying glass and Sherlock style hat was relatively cheap, just five bucks. More than you had wanted to spend, but it would be worth it if you got the skills you wanted.

You had talked Marcie into trying out a Fantastic Four costume, in the hopes that dressing as Invisible Girl would give her a measure of control over her abilities. It wasn't guaranteed, but it was something that allowed her to be included somewhat in your plans for trick or treating, and that was always something you tried to keep in mind. Willow was more tricky. Her shyness had her usually going as a bedsheet ghost, something simple that completely covered her up. Buffy would want to push for something more adventurous, but you knew that the best way to get Willow actually dressed was picking something that was still fairly modest.

You tried to encourage Willow by telling her all about how cool the Scarlet Witch was, and how she already had red hair for it. Buffy however shot it down as comic geek stuff, and Willow was swayed to go as a more classical witch. Well, it was still something magical, if not what you had hoped for. And there was a good chance that the costume would in fact help with Willow's powers.

The detective immediately knew that something was wrong as he came into awareness of the world around him. People were screaming and fighting. His first impulse was to say that it was a celebration gone wrong. City wide celebrations occasionally deteriorated into riots after all. But there was something very wrong with the people around them. Something about their costumes that simply pinged the detective as not being right.

He watched for a couple minutes before he placed the difference. Somehow, in some way, some of the costumes were real. It looked like people had been celebrating Halloween, and somehow actual monsters had become mixed up with everything. He had no explanation for how such a thing was possible, but he at least could do his best to try and get the innocents out of the way.

The detective wasn't the only one doing so. There were others mixed in who were doing their best to fight back against the tide of monsters. And not all of the monsters were non human. The detective kept a close eye out as he brought a group to a house. A teen flickered out of invisibility and drove off a devil before creating some type of barriers that she used to drive fights apart. A witch cackled as she cursed others, adding to the chaos with her spells.

He was kept busy for hours this way, fighting through the monsters. He was surprised when what he had mistaken as a man grabbed him and turned out to in fact be a vampire. He did his best to hit weak points and escape, but it didn't work as he was dragged away. The detective watched with a calculating gaze as he was brought before a dark goth princess vampire. She smiled softly at him as she swayed in her dress. "Even clouded this one still sees," she murmured.

"A good gift for you then? Still not sure what you want with him," the vampire said.

"His dancing dodges blades, I want him to dance for us," she said.

"He will," the vampire promised. The detective thought he was going to be forced immediately, but the female vampire drew away her lover with a giggle. He started to work on escaping, waiting for an opening to run.

You jolted as the night fell away. This was not supposed to happen. You had thought you were safe for Halloween. Vampires don't go out in it. Spike did try to go after Buffy, but that had been a rather half hearted attempt. You hadn't expected that it would turn to you. Drusilla beamed as she looked at you. "He's awake."

"Finally," Spike said. He grinned at you. "So, pet, you're going to help with whatever my lovely dark princess asks for. Got it?"

Ok, I have no idea what to do now. Also, I did wonder about Xander's funds, but his funds generally seem to be whatever the story demands in canon. I guess he spent all of his money on ice cream for the group beforehand.

Marcie seems like she'll come out of this great. Invisibility control and shields! Hopefully, at least some of that will remain.

Willow might be more worried about using magic after this experience, but she might also be drawn to the power that using magic gave her. Assuming Xander survives this, it'll be interesting to see how she turns out.

Generally Xander is poor until he gets a job. His parents will demand taking most of his money as "rent" if he stays living with them once graduated.

And yeah, Xander got stolen by Drusilla the mad seer and Spike! We are officially off canon territory

Hmm... fully open write in has me in a bit of a holding pattern.

Ideally are you looking for more a general game plan or something like a dialogue response? I assume more game plan.

Also I know its fresh, but does Xander notice that he retains some of his ability of observation at this juncture?

Obviously the goal is to never be turned, but it at least outside of a deal isn't Spike's general MO. Even if we may count as an additional soul, but not something we ever want to scientifically test.

I'm trying to think of if we want to tip our knowledge here at all, cause some plays that come to mind.
- Offer up Angelus's return, Drusilla would like it, Spike... at the current moment may as well, but would certainly grow annoyed... but also Angelus is just bad news, especially around a Drusilla that is aware of us.
- Agree to be lapdog, work against it. The Initiative should probably be active, but I don't think that the chip would be ready for development for a few years so honestly a dead Spike is for the best.
- Revealing any fore knowledge thing about Spike is likely more immediately dangerous... he is fond of torture. However what he likes is fighting, so that may be something we can do. But it is Drusilla who is calling for the "favor" here, and there are many things she could potentially want that, trying to go around her to play to Spike's preferences may be difficult.

General goals for how you want things to aim for is a good way to start, but there will be some dialogue going on. Just having a general goal to use to guide how the scene goes is best to start with.

The biggest thing to keep in mind with Drusilla is she is a mad seer, by every definition. She can See Xander, and knows he would be useful to her goals. Unfortunately Drusilla's goals are rather fluid, thanks to being trapped in the moment of insanity Angelus and Darla so lovingly created for her. She wants her family, she wants to feel safe, she wants to be happy, and she has zero inhibitions as she chases after what her broken mind tells her will give her those things.

General goals obviously include surviving and not putting Xander's friends in more danger than they usually are. Druscilla is very unpredictable so it would be hard to try to manipulate her, especially with Spike right there. Spike might be easier to manipulate, as long as Druscilla doesn't interrupt with info from her visions.

"His dancing dodges blades, I want him to dance for us," she said.
I THINK she's saying that Xander has used his visions to avoid danger before so she wants him to help them live longer. Do we try describing their canon deaths and hope that they'll leave Sunnydale instead of killing Xander?
