Project Knight [Mecha Design Bureau]

I don't like putting drones on a main line combatant. Drones can be put on vehicles 10km back and they will still be quite able to support the armoured vehicles. Putting the drones on compromise the armour. Right now I'm feeling like mounting a PD gun with a pair of 40mm GL on the top rear. Right now the PD doesn't cover the rear. This fixes the problem, so cheeky folks can fly their munitions up behind us.

Can we mount multiple weapons in the rear mount the same way we did with the turret? If not I'm going to change my suggestion. Probably a 40mm Autocannon, but I'll have to think things over.

Nope, we can't

The ability to wait for a asset to be free and clear 10 km's away, Or even for the host military to be able to afford an entirely separate vehicle in significant numbers is not a good issue to design around. If The Crawler is forced to operate in any form of congested territory, The ability to mount its own dedicated scout instead of waiting for assets to be free is a game changer. Assuming that an asset is always available to provide support is how offensives turn into stalls, Turn into slaughters. Thats not even considering how valuable a scout drone, let alone a bomb drone is in heavily congested terrain like cities and forests.

The ability to provide it own Scout, Means the Crawler isn't tied to a asset that the host nation might not even be able to afford.
The ability to launch a drone and safely scout what behind a corner or a wall without forcing infantry into a deathtrap or sending the crawler into an ambush is already more then worth putting a drone on it.

Instead of relying on a nation to use money they might not even have to buy a secondary separate, specialized platform that is tech complicated in enough number's that requesting support doesn't get congested, Adding the ability to the platform allows it to serve as well rounded tool for even nations on a budget.

.. how much size are we alocated for this mount? I'm not seeing a number. ( I may just be blind here)

Nah, just a single weapon from the list; only turrets can mount multiple weapons.

I previously expressed support for a drone, but I now agree that it's a bit of a silly idea when defensive battles will probably have a dedicated drone launcher nearby. And our only other indirect-fire option, the SAM missiles, come with a customer restriction.

A general gun for people who sneak up from behind, or a second point defence system, makes the most sense to me.

also if the recon drone can VTOL they can set up some nasty ambushes by landing the drone on the edge of a roof top near the kill box and using that to help aim.

edit
This is basicly what we built after all so ambushes are gonna be a major doctrine for these.

I want our team to have experience with lasers before we quit, and this seems the best place for them where the downsides are trivial.

First plan is an option for guerilla warfare and anti-drone work, being able to run away and still give covering fire against infantry and light vehicles.

Second plan is actually intended more for combat engineering and fire control - being able to blitz past a fortification, then set fire to it and move on is great.

Sadly, there's a problem with these plans - the external mount on the mech can only take a single weapon - multiple weapons per mount is the domain of turrets only, sorry!

Nah, just a single weapon from the list; only turrets can mount multiple weapons.
Seems like there was a bit left in from the previous step, because the last post does refer to multiple weapons.

You have to go back two thread marks to see that the external mount doesn't allow multiple weapons.

Mini Weapon Systems:
Turrets can mount multiple weapons, and some of the Mini Weapon Systems may make useful additions. Note that rating adjustments marked with 0* may attempt a roll in that rating, but they are unlikely to move ratings without an extreme roll or significant numbers..

EDIT: I've made a lot of mistakes in the last few updates, so I'm gonna take a breather and let the next one simmer a little bit longer before I post it, so I can properly proofread it.
