Our previous step gave us the following -
[+2] Heat Management, [+2] Build & Repair Speed, [+2] Ease of Maintenance ,
Unless we get some very bad rolls and do things to hurt Heat Management, we should be on track to sell to Sahal. I'd not object to more Heat Management but this could get us up to B with decent rolls.
As for this vote Nose Mounted feels like the option with the best upsides and lowest downsides. A more central cockpit might hurt control, but I'm all for protecting the pilot.
That gives the following modifiers - [+0.33] Rate of Fire, [+0.33] Weapons Control, [+0.33] Heat Management
I dislike the lack of flexibility for a fixed mount, and I want to keep the mech B- affordability or better for the Bethar contract. Anywhere we can save on that I want to because I suspect that the next couple steps will give us plenty of chances to hurt it.
The simple mod mount gives us - [+0.33] Ease of Maintenance
The HM and EOM are both things we want. EOM really feels like a key part in selling these to people.
Now the exact weapons to use. This is harder. There are a bunch of options I like but I am uncertain of which to go for.
75mm Battle Cannon (Size 2; In-House Build) - This feels redundant. If the target is too hard for a 40mm or some rockets, use the main gun.
40mm Autocannon (Size 1.5; In-House Build) - I like the autocannon a fair bit. Can be paired with a GL or HMG.
70mm Multiple Rocket Pod Array (Size 2; In-House Build) - These are fine. Not to my taste, but good enough + cheap makes them worthy of consideration. Low ammo is my main concern.
20mm Rotary Autocannon (Size 2; Europa (Earth)) - Love the effect, dislike the Tech Simplicity penalty.
Surface-to-Ground Missile Launcher (Size 1; North Atlantean Federation) - Rejected for the same reasons as they were for the main armament.
High Energy Laser Cannon, Light (Size 1, Ning Dynasty) - Doesn't hurt Tech Simplicity, and the heat for a small laser shouldn't be a problem with the heat bonuses we've picked up. Something I'll consider.
Point Defence System, Light (Size 1, In-House) - I want some form of PD. Is it worth the hit to TS? Unclear.
Laser Defence Array, Light (Size 1, Ning Dynasty) - This also hurts heat but laser PD weapons are good in my books.
12mm Heavy Machine Gun (0.5, In-House Build) - Hard to go wrong with a 50 cal.
70mm Rocket Pod (Size 0.5, In-House Build) - If we are going to do rockets, I'd not bother with a pod or two.
40mm Grenade Launcher (Size 0.5, In-House Build) - Indirect fire is good, close range support is good. They are on my short list.
Flamethrower (Size 0.5, In-House Build) - To short range, not flexible enough. No thank you.
@Verisaimilitude Could you list where every weapon fits in respect to modular mounts? Is a 75mm cannon, a 40mm autocannon, and a 12mm HMG all guns or are the different classes? Where to grenade launchers fall? Are PD weapons their own thing or are they some form of ballistic weapon?

I'm voting for a PD weapon and some mix of HMGs and GL. I think the Grenade Launcher is the better option overall, but the HMG seems reasonable as well.
