Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

That's a pretty significant distance when everyone is traveling on foot. I'm gonna stick with moving on unless Pepper finds something noteworthy.

Damn, now that we're here and on the move, I'm remembering an item I really wish I had thought to purchase. A Lord's Banner of Swiftness would have been perfect for getting the tribe to the coast ASAP.

It would have been well worth the 10,000 gold.

Well, the place is on fire. That seems noteworthy.

We could... thought it shames me to say this: split the party? Have some of us fly out on the abductor beast?

Do we think this is some sort of trap/revenge thingy against us/the tribe, and is meant to split us up or just get us to waste resources going there, then kill the tribe while everyone's away?

It would be a strange coincidence if this was not a reaction to the tribe's departure. So I'm in favor of ignoring it. The trouble will come to us.

[X] Argue that you should stick together, what do you care if the lumbermen who have been bedeviling Gorok's tribe for so long die

Noteworthy, as in a Dragon attacking the place, or another tribe of Iruxi raiding it.

I'm going to argue against splitting the party in almost every situation where combat is likely, especially while we're in Cheliax.

It would be different if it was just the party on its own, the we could all saddle up and fly over on Abductor air hidden in an Invisibility Sphere, but we've got other priorities now.

No going after shinies that pop up along the way, no chasing interesting tangents, investigating odd occurrences, etc. We're babysitting an 8 year old girl with Gebbites on her trail, plus leading 94 Iruxi on a migration. The last thing we need is for the party to be split up when a hit squad of Vampires teleport in to snatch Anippe, or some random encounters triggers a monster attack against the tribe.

I'll vote for an interference plan if you write it up.

I think there is something big going down there.

Maybe we would have not have been able to get it, since sounds like something only nobility can get.

Either way, can't account for everything.

All we can do is keep moving.

I'm leaving the flat, I'll be back in just over an hour - main idea is to look at various movement speeds for Pepper/Abductor Beasts, and there's a long(? I think 10 min/level) spell that lets Mina (Witch) see through something's eyes/other senses if she wants (can switch back and forth to her own senses as a Move action).

But even then we'd be limited in our ability to whatever it is - Pepper would have to get there (6 miles), and if it was somehow significant enough to

...For the sake of "at least save some people" I'm considering having the plan have Pepper try to find out what - sorry g2g!
somethin

If you're going to investigate events in Longacre, it needs to be done with intent, not half-heartedly.

I'm still voting to keep going, but here's how I would do it. The Abductor Beast has a sustained flight speed of 18 miles per hour. That meast the fastest we can reach the village using it is about 20 minutes.

Feel free to use and modify it as you please.

[] Those Meddling Kids
-[] Gorok instructs his fellow Iruxi to hide themselves while our group investigates the fire.
-[] Cob activates the Abductor Beast Figurine and Gorok casts Ant Haul on it. Mina and Kori will be carried in its tentacles, while Gorok and Cob ride on its back, with Anippe and Sirim in Cob's bag. Pepper and Shoffe will stay behind with the Iruxi.
-[] The Abductor will fly low, staying close to the tree tops to avoid being spotted. When they're about three minutes away, Sirim will use Wild Arcana to cast Invisibility Sphere on them all so they can approach without being visible in the light of the fire.

98 people would not be able to hide very well.
Well, hide as best they can. It's dark and stormy, and this is a swamp bordering a forest right? They should be able to get out of sight to some extent.

That said, I would prefer to just keep going. This many people is going to stand out, and the longer they are in the open, the greater the risk of complications.

BTW, what time of day is it?

It's the morning, 8 AM or so

Cob is a born scout. Let him scout. Maybe give him Abby, too.

[x] Say nothing, Cob goes scouting

The job of a scout is to poke their nose somewhere dangerous without being seen, and pull the same nose back in one piece, hopefully with some info. There is no need to drag the party into this before we know what it is.

If y'all want Cob to scout out the town, how do you intend for him to get there and back in a timely manner? The Abductor Beast is fast, but it's not our fastest option now, not when the whole group doesn't need to be carried.

Sirim could use Shadow Conjuration to create a Phantom Steed for Cob. He has a caster level of 10 for Shadow Conjuration, so the Phantom Steed would have a speed of 100, which calculates out to 45 mph thanks to it being a tireless magical creation rather than a living creature, and it would have constant Water Walking for extra flexibility crossing the river, if necessary.

With it, Cob could reach Longacre in around 8 minutes.

Vote is tied, I think I'll leave this one until the morning.

  • [X] Recommend that we stick together and keep moving forward. We accepted responsibility for getting Gorok's tribe to safety, and stopping now when we've barely put any distance between them and their old swamp risks drawing unwanted attention.
-[X] Ask that Pepper and Shoffe scout the town while we continue to march.

Abby is fine. Make her invisible, and it'll be perfect. We don't need the fastest option, I'd rather have the sneakiest.

The Abductor Beasy is too slow. It's a 20 minute flight to reach the town. Even if Kori uses Inspired Spell and the Extend Spell rod, the longest he can make an Invisibility spell last right now is 18 minutes.

If you want Cob to scout, the Phantom Steed is the best way to do it, IMO. He can use his Chameleon power on himself to increase his Stealth to beyond Invisibility effectiveness, and cast Invisibility on the Phantom Steed using his ring when he gets close to the town.

It's daytime, but it's cloudy and raining, so visibility isn't going to be great for anyone who might spot Cob on the Phantom Steed even if he isn't being sneaky.

@Goldfish
Sorry that I haven't been communicating much in the quest lately, might have lost a bit of interest for a time.
I even missed that you did add scouting to your plan at some point.

I think the timing is too strange to be unrelated.
Whatever is happening in this village, will give us a hint at what trouble we will be facing next, I believe.

There is no reason for us to go there in force and save some Chelish, but we definitely do need to know what's going on.
