[] It was decided to seek a diplomatic solution, no matter how long it took.
Even disregarding the morality of just going in and killing everybody who disagrees with you, we've seen countless times throughout history what happens when a foreign invading nation comes in and starts dictating policy. It'll definitely take more time, resources, and effort, but working with people is always better as opposed to forcefully converting them at gunpoint.
The term "Warlord" also carries a lot of stigma, especially in Western culture. It's important to recognize that the same stereotypes may not apply here. Some or even a majority of them could be warlords for good or at least understandable reasons, such as to protect their people.
Besides that, just because we decide to take a diplomatic approach in general does not mean we have to play ball with every minor polity out there. If they're committing human rights violations or other egregious acts, we can still decide to remove them specifically. Might even be a good tactic for more diplomacy and building relations, allying with the more agreeable warlords to fight against the worse ones.
Here's my vote.[X] It was decided to seek a diplomatic solution, no matter how long it took.
Welcome to Battletech! : DI find it darkly hilarious (in a I'm laughing because otherwise I'd be crying manner) that the idea of not engaging in colonialism and instead using diplomacy in good faith is considered utterly alien.
