  • [X] Operation Salty Barnacle, Stage Two
-[X] Cob expends one Mythic power to use Surprise Strike as a Swift Action to make another Sneak Attack against the alchemist.
    --[X] Sneak Attack: +21 vs Disoriented AC (-4 AC vs Cob's attacks) [+1 (Mythic) +1 (Haste) +5 (Morale)], 1d4+11+3d6 damage [17-20/x2]
-[X] Sir Pisca goes in for the kill, closing the distance to interfere with the alchemist's use of magic while Power Attacking.
--[X] Power Attack: +19/+19/+11 vs Disoriented AC (-2 AC vs attacks) [+1 (Haste) +2 (Morale)], 2d6+9 damage [17-20/x2]
-[X] Kori casts a Barbed Chains spell targeting the alchemist, unless the Drow is already dead before he can act. If the Barbed Chains spell is unnecessary, he instead readies an action to cast a spell against the first Drow that attempts to enter the chamber, or through the doorway if the door is opened and he can see into the next room.
--[X] Barbed Chains Spell: x2 chains; +15/+15 vs Disoriented AC (-2 AC vs attacks) [+6 (CHA) +2 (Morale) +3 (Luck)], 1d6+3 damage, plus each hit requires a DC 17 Will save to avoid being Shaken for 1d4 rounds.
-[X] Gorok moves to cover the doorway, not placing himself directly in front of it, but to the side so that he can attack anyone who bursts through without putting himself in the line of fire should someone blast it open from the other side.
-[X] Unless she is needed to deal with other Drow in the next few moments, Mina uses her Evil Eye Hex to reduce the alchemist's AC by -2. If the alchemist is already dealt with before she can act, she instead readies an action to cast a spell against the first Drow that attempts to enter the chamber, or through the doorway if the door is opened and he can see into the next room.

Arc 9 Post 55: From Nightmare's Gullet New
From Nightmare's Gullet

17th of Kuthona 4707 A.R. (Absalom Reckoning)

The shock of the drow's words has only an instant to penetrate before Sir Pisca is on him, sword lashing out diagonally to split the bone-burner from hip to shoulder. Then the scene lurches nauseatingly, like a dream dreamt in sickbed, and no longer can the eye pin him. Blood slowly seeps through the black silk of his robes from a shallow cut on his chest. He curses, questions in a lilting elven tongue this time as Cob tries to stab him again, though only managing to stab hid trailing cloak.

"Tangle!" Gorok shouts as he sweeps towards the door to block his escape.

So you do, and with words now grown familiar you call forth chains of memory barbed with guilt to tangle about the legs of the drow. One catches a table leg, but the second, that one snares true, pulling him to the floor.

Drow Alchemist Tripped

"Gorok!" Mina's shouts, her voice barely heard above the sound of feet from the other room about to charge in this one. "He's calling us traitors. I think..."

The door explodes in a rain of splinters that almost sends the iruxi flying before a thing out of nightmares bursts into the room: it was as if one had taken a man and flayed him of every scrap of skin, every distinguishing feature, and then with ten thousand hooks attached to every inch of his form it was pulled and stretched into a crude eyeless amalgamation of spider and bat, weeping blood from every pore. Undaunted, Gorok rains upon it blow after blow.

"It bleeds!" He calls out, spitting out the foulness that had sprayed all over his face.

"No shit it bleeds!" Pisca answers, a glimmer of humor breaking through the rage in his eyes. "But what the fuck is that thing?!"

A cat's voice isn't a very loud thing, but Pepper manages to make himself heard over the sound of friend and foe: "Eidolon! Pitborn!"

The words mean nothing to you, but the knight had either heard of or faced such things before. "The monster isn't real!"

For all that the claws on the ends of its misshapen limbs seem real enough to you, scraping like rusted iron against the deck.

Gorok obviously has the same thought. He hesitates between the alchemist, who had drawn back entirely against the side of the boat and downed a black glass vial, which the fey sword would find him through all glamors he knew as well as you, and holding the door. Behind the horror the sound of steel scraping out of scabbards promises murder. Can Pisca hold that side of the room alone? Dhould I join him? The thought would have seemed mad not so long ago, but you've grown used to stabbing nightmares.

What do you do?

[] Gorok goes for the Alchemist, Pisca can hold the door

[] Gorok stays to hold off reinforcements, the alchemist is still on the floor, the rest of you can handle it

OOC: Aren't Summoners Fun (TM)? They can make their Eidolon look like whatever they want. Whether they should want certain things is still an open question.

Sleep Hex the Summon, it can't try to save until Mina's next turn, so Cob can coup de grace it.

Gorok either makes a five foot step and full attacks the alchemist, or if he's too far he uses Swiftstrike to get in range (taking the attack at the Alchemist) - preferably so he is in range of both the Alchemist and the Eidolon, then takes a full attack action; focusing on the Alchemist and switching to the eidolon if the alchemist is dead and the eidolon is in melee range.

Is the eidolon immune to poison? Gorok should have three doses pre-loaded for this fight, and used two on the eidolon, if I understand how poison works

Edit: Do we know if the alchemist is Sickened from the Barbed Chains?

Edit: Also that thing looks like it gives the most intense hugs

Ah, so the assumption that the alchemist was an Alchemist was really, really wrong.

Summoners are kinda bullshit.
A cat's voice isn't a very loud thing, but Peper manages to make himself heard over the sound of friend and foe: "Eidolon! Pitborn!"
Pepper is outside in case Leontas' men need Fire Elemental support.
Edit: Do we know if the alchemist is Sickened from the Barbed Chains?
Shaken, no Sickened. Good question, though.

Can we toss a fungal stun bomb in through the doorway in a way that doesn't expose us to the bright/dim light when it goes off?
Like, off to the side of the room?

Hmm... the thing is almost filling the doorway and it would do its best to protect its master. You guys could try to make an attack roll as though to hit the creature's touch AC, but in this case a hit means you get the bomb past it. Sound fair?

It does sound fair, but that means that failure will have the bomb bounce off it, exposing the summon, alchemist and our entire party.

While every other drow in the other room will be shielded from he light.
Very strong retraction on that idea then! :p

I think a Slumber hex on the eidolon (hoping it's not immune to sleep) is the most efficient move here.
Kori should barbed chains two separate drow that look like they have multiple attacks (trip to prevent them from using their full attacks)/
What is that supposed to mean? Does Sir Pisca get to disbelieve it?

Seems pretty real to the rest of us.
I think it means we kill the summoner, then it's un-summoned, and/or that it might not have the inherent abilities the base creature.

Okay, here's what I've got so far. If Leontas needs to use the Fungal Stun Vial we gave him, we won't have anymore of them. We need to find a source for more of them ASAP.

Cob throwing the Fungal Stun Vial is a risk, but only a very small. His buffed ranged attack bonus is currently +19. It's not completely impossible the Eidolon has a Touch AC of 19 or higher (I'm not going to assume it hasn't had spells cast on it or that it wasn't specifically built to be more agile than it looks), but it is very, very unlikely. So the only reason Cob would fail is that he rolls a Nat 1 on the attack, and that's why Mina will be helping him with her Fortune Hex if necessary. Even if his throw fails and the vial detonates, the flash should hit everyone in both chambers. Not ideal, but hopefully not catastrophic either.

If Mina doesn't need to help Cob, I've got her casting Web. Our group won't be affected, but some enemies will be immediately Grappled and any that avoid it on the first save will have to keep making saving throws to avoid being Grappled any time they move from their current space.

Gorok is focused on ending the Alchemist. He's a major threat we can't afford to leave unopposed, and Gorok is best suited to deal with him because his sword allows him to ignore the Displacement effect. The Alchemist has healed himself somewhat, but Gorok hits hard and has a lot of attacks to use, if necessary. If he doesn't finish him this round, he'll have to do it next round.

Sir Pisca has to occupy the Eidolon and eat whatever attacks make it past the creature from the other Drow, at least for this round. He's very tanky, though, with A Bloodrage boosting his HP, plus several buffs, including Haste, Blur, and Mirror Image.

I've been debating with myself what to have Kori do. A Burst of Radiance spell through the doorway, using Inspired Spell to cast Archon's Aura to potentially debuff all nearby enemies, or Cloud of Seasickness. The first two allow Spell Resistance, however, and the latter is a Poison effect. The reason I'm having Mina use Web instead of a Wild Arcana Stinking Cloud is because the Drow, out of most enemies we are likely to face, will probably be equipped to deal with poison, either through feats, gear, or spells, of like the Alchemist, who if he is 10th level like I suspect, is outright immune.

Barbed Chains is reliable, though, and ignores SR. By changing his Channel Vigor buff, Kori can raise his ranged attack bonus/CMB to +19. That's not quite amazing, but it will make it extremely difficult to avoid being Tripped. Even Cob's CMD is only 18, and he's got an unusually high DEX, no armor check penalty, and he's Small-sized. One or two successful Trip attacks could help a lot right now.

[X] Operation Salty Barnacle, Stage Three
-[X] Cob throws his last Fungal Stun Vial Through the doorway, carefully avoiding the Eidolon blocking the opening and angling it so that the detonation flash doesn't shine through into our chamber.
--[X] Anti-Touch Attack to Throw Fungal Stun Vial Through Doorway: +19 [+1 (Haste) +2 (Luck) +5 (Morale)]
--[X] Fungal Stun Vial: Creatures who fail a DC 20 Will save and are within 10 feet of the flash are Stunned for 1d2 rounds, or Confused for 1 round if between 10 and 20 feet of the flash.

-[X] Mina either uses her Fortune Hex on Cob if he needs help with his throw, or casts a Web spell in the doorway, deliberately filling both chambers with the resulting webs.
--[X] Web Spell: DC 18 Reflex saving throw to avoid being Grappled.
-[X] Gorok Power Attacks the Alchemist. If the Drow survives his full attack, Gorok expends one Mythic power to use Fleet Charge as a Swift Action to attack him again. If the Drow does not survive the full attack, he instead uses Fleet Charge to attack the Eidolon.
--[X] Power Attack: +20/+20/+13 vs Disoriented AC (-2 AC vs attacks) [+1 (Haste) +2 (Luck) +5 (Morale)], 1d10+16 damage [+2 (Luck) +5 (Morale); 15-20/x2
--[X] Fleet Charge: +21 vs Disoriented AC (-2 AC vs attacks) [+1 (Mythic) +1 (Haste) +2 (Luck) +5 (Morale)], 1d10+16 damage [+2 (Luck) +5 (Morale); 15-20/x2
-[X] Sir Pisca Power Attacks the Eidolon.
--[X] Power Attack: +19/+19/+11 [+1 (Haste) +2 (Morale)], 2d6+9 damage [17-20/x2]
-[X] Kori changes his Channel Vigor buff to the Mind effect as a Move Action, then casts a Barbed Chains spell, intending to damage the Alchemist if he still lives or to make Trip attacks against two Drow in the other chamber.
--[X] Barbed Chains Spell: x2 chains; +19/+19 [+6 (CHA) +2 (Morale) +3 (Luck) +4 (Competence)], 1d6+3 damage or Trip on successful hit, plus each hit requires a DC 17 Will save to avoid being Shaken for 1d4 rounds.

Assuming we capture some good Alchemy lab equipment and suitable reagents here for Cob to use, I wonder if he could start cooking up Fungal Stun Vials on his own? If not, and we can't find anywhere to buy them, we'll need to start looking for the recipe and ingredients.

Hopefully the equipment survives the battle intact. We might not be able to set it up and use it immediately, but we will eventually.

Yeah, sure.

[x] Operation Salty Barnacle, Stage Three

What stun weapons/potions are available in Pathfinder, in general? Are there stun bombs other than the ones made from fungus?

Not that I am aware of, at least that are non-magical like the Fungal Stun Vials.

I think there might be some technological ones if you head for Numeria, though in this version of the setting that technology will be more magi-tech than straight up SF.
I wasn't thinking about the technological stuff, or magi-tech in this case.

There are a bunch of grenade options, though none with an outright Stun effect. There are Stagger, Deafen, and Blind effects, plus a lot of different types of damage.

Technological Gear

Well, at least we know the Alchemist was bullshiting and just wanted to get his horror out to save himself.

Speaking of which, @Goldfish could we have Pepper use his elemental collar to summon a fire elemental to focus on enemy summon? Would make pinning it down easier.

Pepper is outside with Leontas' group. I reminded DP, but he hasn't edited the chapter yet.
