EDIT: For prayer ideas, a passive of simply doing more damage per hit is probably a good thing to pick up, whether percentage or flat damage, and an active for armour-piercing (deal damage even if armour should eat all of it) and/or armour-wreaking (deal some/all the damage from a blocked blow to armour, not just 10) for when we eventually run into a guy who has gone all in on armour or an evil tortoise and we can't actually get his fleshy bits to kill him.

Armour-damaging attacks are a lot easier than armour-ignoring ones, for the record (armour-ignoring ones tend to usually be low damage, have restrictions on use, or both), and adding more Meditations is maybe the sort of thing that should wait for an increased Replenish. That said, all of these are possible Prayers in theory.

Holy shit that was so tense I was scared the whole time reading this. I was legit scared we were going to die. So glad I spent that Zeal correctly.

You absolutely did. He would have survived without that expenditure, which would have been...not great for you guys.

Would Perfect Footing have saved us from getting grappled like that?

It would not. It'd probably give a bonus, but it's not a trip attempt per se, and the roll beat Audrey's by a lot.

That just makes me want it more, to be honest.
We're a squire. I want to work on developing who we are.

Not trying to dissuade anyone, just clarify.

Very much agree with that, our income is buggered with our current costs. As the mechanics guy, do you have an idea for what works as a rough rule of thumb? Half our replenish on Meditations? A third? Or just try shit and see what works.

It's more contextual than that. It depends heavily on your goal. If your goal is to be able to use GKB, say, once per round sustainably, then just look at what's needed for that.

At the moment, that'd be around 30-ish Fervour per turn not eaten by Meditations, 25-ish if you forego Rote Attacks other than GKB.

Notably, if you hit 3rd Decade, you'll have Replenish 40 in armour and be around there for that very specific goal.

Blossoming pain swiftly fades as her blessing of armour soothes her broken hip, but the momentary pause is all the Norseman needs to make his move. Sax glinting in the glow of fading black-red light, the fine point slips through her visor as the world seems to crawl to a halt.

Like grains of sand trickling through an hourglass, realisation blooms as fear grips Audrey's heart. A bone-like presence, colder than any winter freeze, finds her shoulder as the blade-point draws ever closer. Her sword flails, each stroke stripping armour and spilling blood, yet the motion is already too late to stop.

Audrey opens her mouth to scream, to cry, to do anything as the world seems to come crashing down around her, but nothing leaves her lips save a single gasp—the blade's new home in her mouth making sure of that. The taste of blood-wet iron washes across her tongue as the cold press of a weapon keeps pressure.
"I am Audrey Eotenslaga," she growls through a mouth lacking most of its teeth, blood gurgling in the back of her throat, "and you are dead."

Brains, blood, and bones squish around her armoured fingers as she dashes his head against the earth. Again and again, she flattens the man who thought to kill her.

Time passes in a blur, her body locked to a singular purpose: ruining the man who failed to be her bane.

"He's dead, Audrey," the sudden voice nearly sends her into a frenzy, only for the face of her mentor to soothe her fears.
Let me just confirm that you all really cooked with this update, especially these two parts. I got some amount of actual chills when reading time slowing down for Audrey when she realized that she was actually staring down her own rapidly approaching death... And then pushing past despair, with her valour but also pride and sheer burning wrath letting Audrey turn the fight around.

Her reaction after surviving was extremely good too. Audrey first response to fear (in this specific case a sudden voice) is to attack. While it helped us here to wrangle a win out of a tough fight, I can see this potentially screwing us over if there ever is a situation where we might be better off just running away. Because that Valor + Pride + Wrath most likely will make just running away to live to fight an another day the one of the hardest things to do for Audrey.
She was lucky to survive even the first, let alone the second. The third will kill her.
Fortitude has its uses. I don't think we could have survived even the first blow without it, right?

...Also, I'm pretty sure that when Audrey bounces back from her near-death experience, she will be so smug. She already was pretty damn smug before, so I shudder to think how bad she might get with a win like this. Or perhaps the touch-and-go with death will temper her attitude somewhat? Well, looking forward to it regardless.

On the vote, getting something new out of Audrey's Bloodline sounds like a good idea. As we have seen, she is already pretty damn good at punching up, but I would prefer that we get more tools to our arsenal to do that. Also, lightning cool, and black-red lightning is even cooler.

So, Audrey is slightly underestimating herself there, she could have taken a third blow and survived. But not a fourth. Fortitude as a Virtue doesn't actually impact her survival a huge amount in this very specific circumstance in terms of her amount of Fortitude the health stat, 4 blows would kill her either way looking at that in a vacuum...but her Soma and Hama both being at 5 (the latter only able to be taken to 5 without exceeding Soma due to Fortitude) and the extra +2 to all attacks and defenses (from her improved armour bond) were very big contributors to the win.

I wonder how Reinald was able to neutralize the troll?

...So, does Knight armor help grow teeth back?
Your armour doesn't, but priests have magical healing powers so you're good. Some armour blessings do help with that, but they are few and far between.
Very combat focused quest so far. Glad we didn't go with a weaker mc choice. None of these battles have really been a cakewalk for her.
Knights be fighting, that's kinda their entire reason for existing ;P
Just out of curiosity. Is it possible to use the bodies of magical creatures to create magical things from them?
I mean, will our mentor be able to benefit from a stone-turned troll?
In general, absolutely. A large minority of equipment comes from the bodies of magical creatures a la Monster Hunter. Including the stuff that incorporates monster bits into the hilt/handle/whatever, of course.

In specifically this instance, you don't want a Norse troll statue. It is an awful statue, first and foremost, and it doesn't even have any magical powers. If you really want a troll statue, you can just go to Norway or what have you and grab one of the many, many troll statues that litter the landscape and have been worn down by erosion.

Troll statues are just normal rock, the sun banishes all the magic and returns them to their primordial state of earth and stone.

0~0~0

Regardless, I'm happy you folks are pleased with the update.

Extremely unpleasant creatures. It is difficult to kill and there is no benefit.
By the way, will the light created by a cultivator who has a corresponding revelation be considered sunlight for trolls?
Or maybe there are ark rings that can collect and release sunlight?

Magic to duplicate sunlight is absolutely possible, but it's pretty specific. Most magic that creates light would probably not count.

Very nice update! I have a feeling surviving this will make Audrey a lot more dangerous in the future as she internalises the lessons learnt & acknowledges how even "nobodies" (in her eyes) can be a threat currently. Hopefully augmented with some additional benefits from impressing Reinald :p

That was very close though, have no idea how we could have survived that 2v1 if we didn't get lucky with the early GKB. Kudos to Kiera for boosting it with zeal for that decisive strike.
Round 3:
Norseman Burns an Aspect and attempts to break Audrey's hip: 45
Audrey attempts basic defense: 30
Audrey's armour protects her due to Purity of Form, takes 10 Damage.
Armor passive coming in clutch too!

Feels the most thematic and something she can remember this battle by, even long in the future.

Kiera definitely deserves kudos for the Zeal expenditure. That was actually the exact right amount...less wouldn't have managed it, more would have been overkill.

The fight in general could have gone a lot of different ways, depending on situation. For the GKB, the really lucky part was the successful Clever Deflection to set it up coming so early. With the bonus from the opening it provides, a successful GKB was far from assured, but pretty likely, but the more hits you took before that the more beat up you would have been to fight the second guy, which would have been...not great.

[X] A pile of trinkets, silver, and other minor treasures. While possessing no real power in its own right, there is enough of it for Audrey to have a certain degree of wealth in her own right–extremely important as she rises through the ranks in the future. Provides 2 Wealth.

I don't know the exact utility of Wealth, but it sounds important.

A life saving treasure is honestly probably more useful but this is way cooler, so…
