Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

But is it sneaky? That's the only hard requirement.
I forgot about that. That's a total dealbreaker. Well, either they're sneaky or can reasonably be reforged or retrain into being sneaky.
Addendum, we've rather dropped the ball with warty (though this'll be mitigated a great deal when Grork gets to level 7, and access to the second level ranger spell that can turn warty into a figurine.
Observe: Warty has no stealth skill. We have failed out bestest boy :'(

Cast him out! Such degeneracy cannot stand!

Yeah, the Carry Companion spell will be very helpful for those times when Warty needs to be sneaky.

One day, Gorok will get to use the Surprise!ToadMonster tactic on an enemy, and it will be glorious.

Is it really a stretch? It explains everything: Why the corpse said it didn't die, why the fey insists this is the real Tyn, why the construct could fool everyone for days, why the construct says its life is ruined (it/he has to leave the village now).

[X] Interject explaining he's dead, other fey killed him after being possessed by demons
It would just be a lot to accomplish for a Fey of what appears to be middling power. Most of the time, Fey don't go too far outside of their lane, relying on their inborn powers and abilities rather than developing more complex magic.

To build a Construct body to house a displaced soul, and then to find that soul and slot it into its new chassis, that's some high grade magic you would expect from a powerful wizard or cleric. Anything is possible, though, especially when Fey and ritual stuff is taken into account, so I can't rule out the re-sleeved Tyn option.

Is that possible? I know nothing about the Pathfinder rules.
Same, I just deep dive into the d20pfsrd website, but I don't have anything like a broad understanding.
@Goldfish @Artemis1992 Can we do such a thing. Make Warty have ranks in stealth? Do we have the technology?
[I'm guessing that if we manage to awaken him (and give him hands/short range telekinesis-type magic item), he'll have enough ranks to spare?]

Well, there are ways to help, but they only go so far. We can cast Invisibility spells on him if necessary, but those are short duration and don't help with noise.

Mina's Pass Without Trace SLA is good for eliminating tracks and other evidence of his passage. That doesn't necessarily help with being sneaky for infiltration purposes, but it does do a lot to mitigate the downsides of having a Large-sized frog monster with us to make it more difficult to track the party.

It wouldn't be practical to try to give Warty real stealth skills or abilities. He doesn't get enough skill points to use on Stealth, plus he's Large-sized and not particularly dexterous.

It would be very expensive to try to equip him with enchanted gear to make him sneaky, and the effect would be marginal at best.

If it's a concern before Gorok gets high enough level to cast the Carry Companion spell himself, Mina or Sirim could learn it from a scroll, assuming we can find someone selling one.

At Druid level 4 equivalent, an Animal Compaion gets a 1-point increase in any stat.

An animal companion with INT 3 or higher can train any skill on gaining more HD.

So once Gorok is level 8, Warty can start training, possibly even retraining, his Stealth.

  • [X] Interject explaining he's dead, other fey killed him after being possessed by demons
[X] Plan damage control for the fey:
-[X] "The original Tyn we found dead when confronting the Lord Of Veils. (Bluff)
-[X] Intent is to make town like us despite refusal to get their loot back by uncovering Tyr's, and to make Fey less annoyed with us for wrecking their scheme by making it sound like Real!Tyr had bargained for it willingly, but then funked up.

Or maybe Tyn was the Fey Lord's son and after he was killed his father saved his soul and placed it in a new chassis? It's possible, I guess, but seems a bit of a stretch.
Regardless, we should talk to the Fey Lord about commissioning one for Sirim.

edit. Assuming we come out of this not having completely burned our bridges with him.

Arc 8 Post 44: Maker's Passion
Maker's Passion

6th of Neth 4707 A.R. (Absalom Reckoning)

"Dead." The single syllable cuts though the confusion like a knife through fresh lard. "By the looks of the body he was killed by the fey of the Court of Veils, and from the words of their once-lord he had been taken by the demons. I could..." you trail off. "Gorok could show you were the body is, the woods aren't really my place to wander in."

"And yet you speak freely of that which you know not, mortal," the faerie prince cuts in waspishly.

"I speak the truth as I see it, least we all start shedding blood like folk stumbling down a titled tunnel with knives out."

"If you are going to kill each other, at least be sure why you're doing it," Sylestrix nods as she sweeps one wing between angry townsmen and the lord of the Court of Resplendent Morn.

"Or we could not kill each other," Mina sounds a touch wistful. "There's been enough death, enough loss." She does not look up at the dragon's missing eye, she does not have to. "Enough strife. The demons might be gone and far might they stay, but they have worked their wiles enough on all of us mortals I think. Upon immortals too, for even the trees and the stones are not free of their taint, not from the tales I heard."

The only sound that follows her plea is the creak of the wind through branches only now budding green, then the fey lord speaks: "I do not wish to fight. I am an artificer, a maker of things, from there my interest in the works of your ancestors, but if you threaten the work of my hands and the labor of my soul, I will defend them. Him."

"Are they a threat to that, to you?" the dragon turns her head to look him in the eye. "Or do you simply seek the solace of silence for reasons apart?"

"I was too late..." the words are so soft as to be barely spoken, though they grow louder in the telling. "I had heard that Tyn, whom I had long counted a friend, sought to deal with the Court of Veils and thought myself betrayed. Only later, by means of the demons over-reaching, did I discover that he was not himself, but had been made a puppet of wicked shadows. You were not the first to find his body among the thorns, nor I assume the first to read the patterns in dead brains."

At that you nod, unsure of where this is going, though glad it does not seem to be to bloodshed. For one you distinctly recall the corpse of Tyn admitting that he had bargained with the Court of Veils on the promise of selling gemstones far and wide. Had the fey lord been so distraught to see his friend dead that he was content to put down all of his dealings with the enemy down to the machinations of demons?

"There are means to read and encode far more than the simple answers of your mortal magery...." he continues in an almost didactic tone.

"A metal zombie! Ye made a metal zombie!" the man who has asked about Tyn's fate starts angrily, though not quite so angry as to ignore the dragon looking back at him.

Whatever that had been a mere shambling corpse was not it, that much at least you can be sure of.

"I meddled not with mortal souls, even the least part of it. I do not have the power, nor would I have the will to do so. Only memory I read from dead flesh and imprinted upon Tyn-Who-Is." So concludes the fey lord with some mix of pride in what he had wrought, and lingering sorrow.

"That's not..." Mina seems at a loss to explain. "I'm sure he's a great Tyn, a great person, but these people here would have wanted to know what happened to the one they knew all their lives."

"If you hadn't meddled they never would have known. What good is truth that only serves to hurt?"

"Mortals like being able to say goodbye," your friend finally gets out. "It is a part of us."

"That's because they broke you!" For the first time the gnomish prince sounds angry.

"They?" Cob, who had been bouncing his gaze from one side to the other of the conversation, asks with a frown.

"The Gods!" the fae hisses, his cloak billowing in a sudden gust of wind. "They say the First World was a draft and this the true making. When have you ever heard of a draft that is more vibrant, more alive, more enduring than the finished thing? The Gods could not bear to make things deathless as they were, so they made you poor, suffering mortals to grovel at their feet. Why should souls fly and be remade? Who are they do judge in what manner the innermost self is to be twisted? And for what? Have you not seen those shadow-things, the monster you killed today? That too was once a mortal under the sun."

"Even should these mortals of Fusil and all their kin be deceived as to matters cosmic, these mortals have the right to their inner lives and convictions," the dragon interjects gently. "Otherwise the law of the universe is the law of might, and the Gods are mightier than you, even than your eldest. If you are right, then they must be allowed to be wrong."

Mina Diplomacy (DC 15/20) = 1d20+1 = 16 (Success)
Sylestrix Diplomacy (DC 20/26) = 1d20+16 =
33 (Success)

The proclamation seems to strike the fey lord like a leaden pendulum to the face. "You are too cruel for one so young, dragon... and too wise." Without another word he tosses a bag at your feet that clinks and clatters. He turns and walks away, unchallenged.

"There goes... a visionary," Sirim interjects mentally. "I wonder what insights he might have at the connections between body and soul."

Gain 5,000 gp in raw gemstones

"I didn't meant to..." you start, but he cuts you off.

"Think nothing of it, metal would not have suited me I think."

Alas, that's not advice you'll find easy to follow.

All PCs gain 2,000 XP from the battle and aftermath

Not inaccurate from their point of view.

"Even should they be should these mortals of Fusil and all their kin be deceived as to matters cosmic these mortals have the right of their inner lives and convictions," the dragon interjects gently. "Otherwise the law of the universe is the law of might and the gods are mightier than you, even than your Eldest. If you are right then they must be allowed to be wrong."
Dang. Well said.

Threat: assessed. Profit: made. Moving on then.

As an aside, Tyn-that-is does not seem to think of himself as Tyn, and takes it more like an assignment from 'his father'. A new soul, tasked with the affairs of the old one. Great as a proof of concept, but defeats the purpose of the endeavor, I think.

Leaning towards Leontas and his crew when it comes to the ohancanu. The town would not have the means to enforce compliance.

Huh, that's not quite what I was expecting. I'm pleasantly surprised by the Fey Gnome. Too bad he doesn't seem to like us very much, I bet he could craft good stuff.

I don't think CoRM Fey will suit the Ohancanu, and I really don't think they're a good fit for Fusil. Leontas' crew is still looking like the best bet for them, IMO. Not yet, though.

[X] Head to the site of the crash, time to get some of that adamantine
-[X] But finish looting Gavhaul's remains first. We'll take the remains with us as well, until they can be properly disposed of.

You did kind of get in the way his grand idea for the restoration of mankind.
The idea itself is not wrong per say, but the fact that he did it in secret and without consent is the big issue I feel.

I can see other people being okay with idea of magical body uploads into golem bodies, but that should be their choice to make, not his.

He could have informed the village that their leader died, but that he could bring him back in a way. Not go through all this intrigue that would make people question his motives from start to finish.

Anyway, plan time!

Ohancanu seemed to really like bashing demons, so why not see if they can do it full time?

We should go to crash site now, pay our comrades who stood by us, but wonder if we can track down survivors too.

This a good addition @Goldfish?

I think we shouldn't try to settle the Ohancanu issue until after we are done at the crash site. Let's keep them under our command for now.

I don't see the point in over sharing with the Pathfinders. There is stuff they need to know, but a lot that is none of their business. Telling them about possible survivors doesn't help us and puts those survivors in unnecessary danger. The info will likely get out at some point, but we don't need to be the ones to spread it about, and the longer it takes, the more time those survivors have to put distance between themselves and the crash, and to acclimate to this very different world.

Other than that, your additions seem good to me.

Maybe we should float the idea past Leontas privately so he can get a feel for the Ohancanu over the duration, letting him know that if he thinks they'll be a bad fit for his group that our current alternative intentions are either the village or the fey?
I'm swayed by "keeping them until after the crash site" but I really want to have a general aim of getting rid of them.

If there's room for it in the Speak With Dead, I'd like to ask about that stove first, then the other magic items. (Also, what about the evil book we gave him to copy? That's pretty important)
Do we have access to any corpse preservation spells so we can ask more questions a week later? (Or Gorok can preserve enough of the body to allow for Speak With Dead, but not have it rot/decompose?)
Maybe a divination to check if Gavhaul's death is being investigated by Aspis?

-----
Also I really want us to spend spell slots healing Sylestrix - Mina'll throw out a Healing Hex, 'cuz those are free, but I'm thinking three level 1s and two level 2's from Kori each day. Maybe also a level 3?

@DragonParadox before we do another travel-timeskip, I'm hoping for the opportunity to raise the possiblity of Sirim having a few hours using Kori's body if we think it's... kinda safeish. Life is never going to perfectly safe, but one lvl 3 spell slot seems ok to spend on quiet days in my eyes and I hope for the opportunity to convince other voters of that. I kinda feel bad that we lost the goodwill of that Fey, since that would be a

Also, if she looks to intend to leave, could we get a chance to speak up so the party can try and bargain for baubles, and much more interestingly; the opportunity to buff up and learn what he can about the mind-core, using max bonuses and re-rolls.
