It would be really cool if we were to focus on something the Legion seems to lack like a biokinetic or technopath since the main Thousand Son captains seem to focus on shields, pyrokinesis, telepaths, future sight, telekinesis, and swordsmanship. A psychic apothecary or tech-marine would be super unique and original.

I'm personally not too invested in that idea, if only because throwing lightning bolts and balls of fire around is just super cool. If we're going all in with the psykery, I'd prefer it to be flashy, is all. Leave the auxiliary functions for Invica's brothers.

There are captains who lead entire cults dedicated to those things though capable of incredible feats like possessing a warlord titan, creating shields capable of blocking exterminatus grade weapons, reading a primarch's mind, fighting Valdor, and out duling Lucious of the Emperor's Children. I think it would be cool to build on the feat of boiling the enemy's blood to do the kind of crazy shit Fabius Bile gets up to.

At least our most powerful skill as a psyker is now at a 6 out of 10 for a Thousand sons, give some special Armour like the Maximus and Aquilla, or time to train ourselves and we are going to be the terror of anyone facing us on the battlefield.

000. M31; Captain Antasein Invica of the Thousand Sons 4th Fellowship;
It is often said that the Emperor of Mankind, beloved by all, had designed and created the Legiones Astartes and imprinted them with the noble aspects of humanity taken from ancient heroes, warriors, leaders, and scholars of Old Terra. The Astartes in their great number would travel the cosmos like Knights of the Old Terran Chronicles and legends clad in ceramite and plasteel to stand as shining examples of what humanity could be and future they had come to bring. They were to be his Space made of iron bone and steely muscle, gifted with intellect so no foe may best them in battle, and clad and armed in weapons so powerful that none may stand against them. They were to be his stoic shield against the evils that sought to prey on humanity and to be his wrathful sword that punished the wrongdoer, the deceiver, the witch, the mutant, and the foul xeno.
It had filled Invica with pride to know he was granted the honor of being one of the few tens of thousands out of the trillions across the galaxy to be one of the Master of Mankind's noble Astartes. He had done his best to impart upon his students and brothers under his command with inquisitive minds, noble goals, and a steely determination forged in the anvils of battle. He had dedicated his life to bringing about Imperial Truth; to expose lies, deceits, falsehoods, idols, and fanes and destroy them where they stood; to bring knowledge, reason, and truth to banish ignorance and superstition where it may be.
It is through the Emperor that the Primarch inherit their great traits and aspects. From his father Mortarion inherited his grim demeanor and dogged perseverance that allowed him to outlast any foe tenfold no matter the odds. It is though his father's great intellect that Perturabo inherited his great architectural abilities, his mechanical genius, and his savage intellect that allowed him to turn any fortress laid against him to rubble. And from the Emperor, Magnus had inherited his boundless psychic abilities and craving for knowledge. Only Magnus, in his crimson red glory and flowing mane and whose body stood towering over even his brother Primarch let alone mortal men, came close to that of the psychic power of his father. And, it is through his Primarch that Invica had been able to gleam even a small faction of the Lord of Terra's psychic might.
Magnus and his sons would use their gift for the arcane arts well. His Legion would not only stand as the ferocious defenders of man and expanders of the Emperor's dominion but would also and his heralds and scholars of truth, knowledge, and reason that they brought to every world brought into compliance. Through bolt shell and through warp bolt the Fifteenth Legion would shatter any resistance they came across, and for the unlucky foes they faced it was demoralizing to see Sorcerors and Witches clad in crimson wiping out entire armies in mere minutes.
Yet not all the Primarchs and Legiones Astartes shared this sentiment. The Lords Dorn, Russ, and Mortarion would demand the purging of the Arcane Legion upon the discovery of their psychic powers. They argued that the Crimson Astartes were but mutants in human skin who used vile sorcery and witchcraft, which stood against the Imperial Truth. There was no place for vile mutants within the Imperium of Man let alone the Legiones Asartes of the Emperor. This endeavor none the less failed as Magnus would successfully defend his legion's honor and the 15th continued to bring worlds into compliance for the Imperium's dominion.
Invica was disappointed at such conclusions driven by the Lords of the Legion who were gifted with such intellect yet were so closed minded and ignorant of the truths that lied within the arcane. For the Arcane was not some nebulous concept where witches and sorcerors alike would take power from false deities or vile xenos. The Arcane was simply another field of science, a naturally occurring phenomenon that was largely unexplored no different from fields such as biology, engineering, or astronomy. Just like how a Mechanicus Magos might utilize his knowledge of ballistics and engineering to craft a Bolter a Librarian brother of the Thousand Sons would utilize his extensive and studied knowledge of the warp to channel the powers of the arcane that would a lightning bolt from his hands to strike down the enemy. Just like how Electrical and Chemical Engineers use the power of a fuel source such as the sun or promethium to power a device. An Architect using the powers of gravity and strength of steel through chemical bonds at the molecular level to build great works and buildings. A Librarian-Brother of the Thousand Sons would simply use the the Warp as a source of power to fuel his Arcane motions that actions to save the life of a legionary brother or to strike down a foe.
Yet the arcane was also very dangerous, and Invica knew the risks of such use. But, through extensive study of the phenomenon and through practice of the arcane arts soon the secrets of the Warp would reveal themselves for further study, removing the mystique and exposing the dangers to avoid and how best to use the Arcane arts. And so, Invica studied furiously knowing that the Emperor, his Primarch Magnus, and his brothers amongst the Thousand Sons Legion were all working tirelessly to study the Arcane and the Warp to expose its lies and truths so it may be used to benefit of humanity.
But Invica could not do this task alone, yet thankfully there were a few cults within his legion that were dedicated to certain aspects of the arcane that surely further help his studies to pursue the truths of the universe. When the time came, Invica chose to join the
-[] Cult of the Corvidae (Access to stronger Divination arcane arts)

-[] Cult of the Athanaeans (Access to stronger Telepathic arcane arts)
For others the mind of another is complex and its mysteries complex, but for you it is as if it were an open book. (Boosted by higher Perception)
-[] Cult of the Pyrae (Access to stronger Pyrotechnic arcane arts)
Through flames and fires hotter than the surface of a sun you shall shield your brothers and burn those who seek to harm them.
-[] Cult of the Pavoni (Access to stronger Biomancy arcane arts)
The manipulations of the body's chemistry come easy to you as its mysteries reveal themselves ripe to your will.
-[] Cult of the Raptora (Access to stronger Telekinetic arcane arts)
The motions of matter and objects come easy to you as they are easily manipulative from pure thought.
NOTE:
You might want to read about the cults before choosing as some of the powers they have access to are incredible, but you will not have access to the full extent of them until your stats related to cult and psychic abilities are strengthened. I will try to the best of my ability to depict that within the writing of this quest.
000. M31; Civilized World, 23-56, Named: 'Heruvia'; Captain Antasein Invica of the Thousand Sons 4th Fellowship;
Captain Invica watched silently as all 9 squads, 3 lieutenants, 9 apothecaries, and 1 Numerologist; tasked with ensuring the functionality of equipment of which he found to be a great honor; assembled in a ruined and broken Heruvian bunker complex. The complex laid it ruin as chunks of the roof and walls were shattered and turned into gravel, dust, or pebble sized rocks, the walls and floors laid littered with the corpses of the dead with the Heruvian emblem embroidered over their armor pieces. The formerly occupied bunker was chosen for its proximity to the upcoming target and would serve as a temporary location for the Astartes to avoid the auspex scans of the enemy before the final push.
Invica would then take off his helmet, hearing the clicking of the neck clasp separating to allow the torrent of the Heruvian air to brush against his dark tanned skin. The Captain had grown tired of the staleness of the recycled oxygen passed through several filters and craved the exhilaration brought by the crisp coolness of Heruvian oxygen.
"Careful Captain, without your helmet on you might suffer the contagion of an enemy crafted chemical agent," Lieutenant Bastet remarked in a deadpan tone. "Oh you worry too much Bastet," replied his superior "I'm honestly surprised you can stand the stale air of your suit for so long."
Then the Captain's proper posture returned as stern expression molded onto his face. The men noticed and stiffened their postures in return, awaiting their commands.
"For this exercise," stated the captain in a voice that echoed across the former bunker walls "We shall not be using our psychic abilities unless necessary. For the new Astartes this will be your blooding experience as you taste real combat in a relatively safe environment. As for the veterans, this will keep you on your toes so you may not rest on your laurels and to stay in shape to fight when our powers are silenced." Grim expressions showed on the Captain and the veteran's faces, remembering the emptiness that was felt when in the presence of a Pariah on the battlefield. The darkness, the void, the gaping hole in the immaterial realm at their presence, but then Invica distracts himself with more pressing matters.
"Our goal will be to go into the heart of the Heruvian citadel and be the fist that will a punch a gaping hole in the enemies' defenses that will allow the Imperial Army to swarm through and bring this planet to compliance, only this one battle will be needed for total victory." Invica's briefing was heard by all present within the ruined complex, the veterans stiffen in grim determination and resolve while the newly inducted within the Legion twitched in excitement at the prospect of the battle. The Captain continued on by saying, "The metaphorical heart that we shall be venturing to will be the command office located a few stories above ground where all the HQ and staff are present, as for how we get there we shall …"

Acting as heavy firepower for the Imperial Army sounds like a good idea. No need to get crazy elaborate, the presence of Astartes should reinvigorate and inspire the common soldiery. Otherwise, the Pyrae are pretty awesome, fire and all that, though apparently they could eventually control machines as well at some point. Which sounds pretty cool in my eyes.

Willpower is good for all psychic abilities, but I think it is best of all in a straight up battle of mental strength, hence Athanaeans. If we picked Perception I'd have said Corvidae, but alas.
And initiative is just generally awesome to have, even if there's some risk. I have faith in our boys.

Force chocking an Astartes, deflecting boltrounds, or freezing astartes in their armor so they can't fight would be OP. Apparently, Phosis T'kar was capable of slaying four custodes by himself at once. We must only watch out for burning ourselves out or drinking too deep of the warp.
