The message has SHIELD rattled. So rattled that senior agents are being sent out.. both to find out what they can find, and in some cases, as part of HYDRA scrambling too.

Such that one Nick Fury found himself in Palm Desert, California, and desperatly wishing he had backup. (Continues in Hitomi Actions.)

You note the Tree of the Heavens reminds you a lot of Yggdrasil. The Odin of the Bureaucracy sent you a thank you note for the laughter he got at looking at the Asgardians, in any case.

The tree shines deeply, and you feel that it's probably visible more to mortals in certain realms. This could be bad or good, and you send a note to the Celestial Host, who remarks that they're on it.

Hitomi was about to make a decision when she felt Charles's voice in her head. Oh, so that's how.

"Hitomi?"

"... Hello, Professor." Hitomi responded mentally, packing up her tent.

"I have need of your help. I will send you a picture of where."

Peculiar. That was .. well, in Langely, and even Hitomi knew the connotations of that. Still, she did in fact concentrate, and appear.

In front of very startled people who pointed guns at her. "You're also a teleporter!?"

"I know a teleportation technique, if that is what you mean." She says, slowly.

"A.. you can be taught this?" One of the men in the corner asks, as Xaiver, and what looked like a doctor recovered.

"My peculiar technique - probably not. But if you have the ability, there is always someone out there to teach you." Hitomi responded after some thought. "And my oaths bind me from telling you where, I regret."

"That would make you not a mutant." Charles realized. There is a younger girl there, in blue as well, looking around and surprised.

".. I'm a kitsune, not a mutant." Hitomi said. "I told you I was a kitsune. I don't know what to say here, but I still am willing to help."

"As fascinating as this all is, I think we should introduce ourselves." The doctor -a woman said. "I am CIA officer Moira MacTaggert. The men in the corner are analysts Stan and Kevin."

"I am Raven." The girl says. She briefly grows foxears and such as well, too, and that allows Hitomi to pin her down for a second.

"Recently, an Army officer - Colonel Hendry - has recently advocated replacing nuclear missiles in-" She cuts off at the suddendly dense and hostile atmosphere, as Hitomi's tails begin to glow with a deep intensity.

"Where is he." Hitomi's voice has gone dangerously flat and space-cold. All of them looked at her in worry.

"H-he's not entirely the problem." Moira fought to regain her voice, and Hitomi seems to be fighting her anger and fear to calm down.

"I apologize." Hitomi says, as the room cleared. "I just think that is an amazingly risky course of action."

"We think he's being blackmailed into it by Sebastian Shaw. Who was also a Nazi scientist named Klaus Schidmt." Moira explains the rest after that.

"..." Hitomi sighs. "I take it you're about to do something risky."

"We are recruiting while we work on working out their next move." Charles says smoothly. "We're working with the CIA here to prevent their plans."

"Well." Hitomi sighs. "I guess I should investigate the Hellfire Club. Well. The one in New York."

"The Hellfire Clubs are closed right now." One CIA man notes. "Their Red King and Queen have decided to close them down for a week as part of a grand reopening."

"..R-" Hitomi pauses, then thinks. "Hm. I think I can see the shape of the dance."

Charles cuts in. "We can talk about this at the mansion. Do you have a place to stay?"

"Nope." Hitomi says, thinking as she leaned against the wall. "I have some long term plans, and I knew not to lay down roots until I got here. It would be nice to have a safe place to stay while I work it out though."

"I can offer you something at the mansion." Charles nods.

"I'll .. follow you there, then." Hitomi nods. "If nothing else, I appreciate it."

Raven looks at her, then frowns. "You feel like you should be a mutant though."

"I should, yes." Hitomi admits. "It's entirely possible I am one here, but it may never manifest for various reasons. But does it matter? If the point of bettering yourself is to become the best possible you you can be, being a mutant or not is irrelevant. It's what you do. It's the path you make. It's the things you fight against. I swore, once, and mean to die with the oath unsullied - improve yourself, never refuse a hand asking for help, strive against the you of yesterday, and oppose evil whereever it may be found. If you can dedicate yourself to an oath.. then you are a warrior, no matter your means, no matter your aims." It was very clear Hitomi was very passionate about this.

[Raven's alignment shifted]

The CIA men.. well, they are probably more cynical, but nod in agreement with the sentiments. They took an oath to help their country, after all.

[Some time later..]

Hitomi raised her eyes at the mansion. ".. It's pretty nice. Surprisingly undefended." She points out at a few basic improvements.

Charles notes them, but admits. "It's more of a family home.. but it might become important."

Hitomi gets a room, and she.. promptly sets up a desk and starts working on things. One day after she got off work cleaning up the mansion, one of the other people there, a Dr. McCoy pokes his head in and stares at the whiteboards and papers everywhere.

"...That is a lot of energy physics." He says. Hitomi nods to the man. "It is. Some of it is some things I've ran across, but the question of power is critical for what I need." She points to a whiteboard with the arc reactor on it. "And that's the issue so far. The arc reactor.. it's fascinating. The problem is the existing elements limit it's power. And it could be made so more efficient.. using technology that, technically, Earth doesn't have." Hitomi frowns. "I am bewildered at that, if I'm honest. But sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

The blue furred man nodded at this. "So, what is your problem?"

"Getting the arc reactor output out. I'd rather not have to rely on more .. dubious energy sources."

"There's more resources about Howard Stark available in the local library, since there's a dedication from him there. Maybe you should try there?"

Hitomi nods, and assuming the disguise of a college-age student with blonde hair, headed out towards the library. She watched a few films, read a book, then..

.. That layout of the expo looks like it should be something. It was .. rather obvious, Hitomi thought.

.. it was an atomic element. If she had to guess, it was in the island of stability about roughly 126 neutrons. It actually reminded her of a something she had seen once.

She returned after checking some books, ironically on songs and dance, since she was using to relax between staring at these equations.

"Well." She looked at the greeting party askance. "Did something happen?"

"No, it's just.... could you look these over?" Dr. McCoy presented her with a batch of papers. Hitomi looked confused, but nods. "I could, yes."

After a while, she returned them, and back to her work. She did some drawing on the sheet of paper, and then spent some time doing a lot of essential but annoying calculations abou the radioactive stability.

It was only after she was very sure it was stable did she create a small alloy of it by transmuting a chunk of iron weighing 1kg.

The iron transmutes.. to not quite what she wanted, but she did get 354-Ubh.. But she got a particular element she would have to describe as better. She also got an element as a side effect she wasn't sure could be made on Earth.

She dubbed the new material for the Arc Reactor 'celestium', and moved on.

"Hmm." She looks at it, and smiles some. She puts the samples in a box with some sensors attached to measure a few things, and starts cleaning up the papers, moving on to her new problems.

- Life Support. And getting up there.

The first is simple enough, she managed to pull a single book that detailed the life support systems of the space shuttle.

It took her some time, but she managed to craft a system she could use to keep a space livable. But she'd need to scale it up.

And she had the plans for it. She'd just need to.. get there.

Now this is, of course, a problem. To kind of keep her mind on more solvable things, she focuses on magic. There was a spell on Keria she had heard about, but she didn't remember it.

But she thinks she could put the elements together for a spell based on the runes and magic of this realm.

It was about now, when she got a book that fell into her hands, written in what she was pretty sure was Old Japanese.

And with some thought and effort, she could read it. So she did so.

[Instant Transmission allows her now to carry people with her, or objects of up to her carrying capacity.]

But she was still stuck on getting there. She didn't have the tech necessary for anything resembling a stealthy launch, and while she had been relearning how the ships in the old republic worked, she couldn't do so from first principles enough. So she went on a walkabout. A long one. With teleportation, if you were careful, you could go on a week long jaunt around the country. That said, she wasn't looking forward to cleaning when she got back, but it was her job.

- Random Encounter 1
One of the things Hitomi had done, though, was stop by a graveyard when she had time, and do some cleaning and planting of flowers. The dead lived on only through the living, after all, and she felt strongly about the dignity of death.

She was stopped at one by an old man wearing distinctive sunglasses. "Did you know them?"

"No, but they deserve my respect all the same." Hitomi said, disguised as a college student with long red hair.

"They do." The old man nodded. "If I may offer a suggestion, the planetarium is having an asteroid night tonight, and they may let you point the telescope in any direction."

He walked off before an astonished Hitomi could even thank him, and she did take advantage of it. She managed to get a good enough grip for an Instant Transmission target, although she really should just take time to work on ways to amoreliate this issue.

- Random Encounter 2

Hitomi ran across a pair of SHIELD agents, and had to hope they actually were SHIELD agents. That said, their mission was one of .. well, something they didn't want her involved in. Unfortunatly, that became moot when they all came under gunfire.

"..I'd ask why this is happening, but I don't think I want to know." Hitomi said blandly. "Look, if I distract them, could you take them out?"

"How could you *distract them*?" The woman - Agent May - said.

Hitomi just grinned, and, got up, she demonstrated the value of parkour by .. basically jumping around and wildly dodging, but still wearing her maid uniform. She also strengthened herself using The Mountain Stands Alone Against The Wind and Waves. The bullets focused on her but kept missing, allowing the two agents to focus fire down the people firing at her.

She vanished over the roof, and teleported onwards.

The two agents were told that Fury would follow up.

She .. kinda just stared at the man who was trying to hold a gun to her, and knocked the man out. What was going on here? She was just taking a day cleaning job at a convention center asking for extra help, and it ended up with having to politely disencourage offers..

And being attacked by a gun smuggler. Well. She .. very nicely took a sampling of his merchandize to examine, and then noted the vibranium and .. well, took some of that. She had uses for that. Quite a few. She then turned Ulysses Klaue into the feds, and vanished again into the night.

Wakanadan agents suspected she took some, but Hitomi really didn't care what they thought that much. She wasn't goign to distribute it or anything.

Hitomi .. looked at Erik Lehnsherr. He looked back. The two were playing chess in a park, and Hitomi was losing badly.

Which, to be fair, she didn't mind. The two were having a discussion about mutant rights. She could see how there was a degree of disagreement. Her personal opinion was that you should give people a chance, but be ready for them to disappoint you. Lehnsherr was.. very much not even that.

"The thing is. Fear will always eventually fail you." Hitomi said, as she played. "Sometimes people will be rational about it, but you can't rely on that."

Erik countered as they played. "But if they don't fear your might, they'll let their fear run you into harm."

"Of course, but if you temper it, they are less likely to move in such numbers as to pose a real threat."

The two kept going, and at the end, she was pleased that Erik was considering her arguments.

"Besides.. I fear HYDRA is on the move." She mentioned, very quietly. "Too on the move."

Erik nodded. "I've been rethinking my approach to at least.. remove actors who will create something no one wants. On that, I think you, me and Xaiver agrees." He considers. "I would like to believe Xaiver is right. I think he's not though."

".. I think he's on to something, but how to bridge it?" Hitomi nods. "I'm still thinking on it. Regardless, I need to move on. I .. feel a calamity." She bows, and moves on herself.

She arrived in Palm Desert, California, albeit with the idea of watching the stars, only to find.. well, a call from outside, only to find a .. fortified camp in the middle of a crater, and she got the very distinct feeling that something was very wrong here.

This feeling was amplified when she was flagged down by .. another SHIELD agent. Of course. This one introduced himself as Nick Fury, and he seemed annoyed and irritated she was here.

"Do you just follow us around?" He demaned in an agitated whisper.

"No, I actually just go on journeys where the stars lead me." Hitomi says, seriously. "There's a lot going on under the ground, and outside of SHIELD's vision, Agent Fury. There's something wrong in that camp."

"I know, but look at the perimeter. The guns." He says.

Hitomi nods, and then focuses, trying to convert a spell like she did before.

"I can take them all out if you want to investigate." Hitomi says.

".. you what?" He raised a skeptical eye.

"I can utilize techniques that seem like magic. I'll draw their attention so you can infiltrate."

Fury considered, then nodded. He had less to lose.

Hitomi focused, and making sure her internal energy was surging, unleashed Shooting Stars, stars shooting at the star at multiple targets, and in many cases, blowing them up. This raised alarm, and Fury infiltrated.

The trouble came when Jonah appeared, and Hitomi immediately was on guard. A glowing human-

"..Really. You live by possession?" Hitomi seemed almost repulsed. "Ah, I see. You live by possession and sacrifices. Foul creature, prepare for your end."

The people around him began to fire as white tendrils formed around him and lashed out at her. Hitomi flash stepped back, and next to Fury, who was leaving, being chased. "Agent Fury, my advise to you would be to handle the enemies behind us. I can deal with those in front."

"The hell is that. A mutant?" Fury said, looking in worry at Jonah.

"I am the Magistrate, a god that can grant you power if -."

"No. A human being possessed by a class-9 spirit. Maybe an alien. Who knows? It'll shortly be dead." Hitomi was focusing, her tails appearing as an aura appeared around her. "Maybe."

She turned to Jonah. "Spirit - be gone!" Her bokken light up with brilliant colorful light. "May the Stars judge you fairly!"

The strike did little damage as it struck, and Jonah smir - before screaming as the Magistrate was forced out, only to meet Hitomi's second strike.

Hitomi was fully aware that a prolonged fight was not in her favor. There were too many people, and she couldn't rely on her natural resistance forever. So the only other option was to go all out from the start. But she knew deep down this is what she was meant to do.

Fury looked at all of this, and then asked Hitomi to .. see what she could do about a woman who was rather reindoctrinated. And that took Hitomi some time, but Fury agreed to go make inquiries with the police.

Hitomi kept the weird book, though. It took her some time to decode.

She was't sure what it'd have, but she wanted to look at later.

Meanwhile, Hitomi .. was a little suspicious about the shaking of the ground, and followed it to see.. a giant hole. Well.

She ended up falling down, but eventually got to it with only .. 100 HP left, forcing her to heal herself, and dropping her Qi reserves to half.

And she saw a spaceship. One she could not use, at all, and could not risk letting people out of. So, she did what any sane person in her situation would do. Blow it up.

She really could have used techs from it though. She had an idea for a backup, but it was going to be.. tacky. Still.

Hitomi looked at the RV she had bought - it was still intact, but the engine was pretty dead. And it was trashed. That didn't bother her too much, she just needed a good shell that she could fix up. It seems the Hellfire Clubs locations were down longer for repairs, so while some regulars could visit, she'd set off too many alarm bells right now.

Between cleaning at the mansion, learning from the new mutants that were joining, using her magic to slowly convert the RV's materials to an experimental alloy that should hide what it actually is, pressure sealing and reinforcing it..

.. Well, Hitomi was quite busy. She had to fit the ECLSS system she invented to it too.

During this time, she worked to refine her compression, conversion and moving ability, as well as work on creating vibranium now that she knew it's properties.

This sped up conversion work on the "RV" and made getting a base created.. probably an reasonable thing.

The tricky part is - shrinking the arc reactor. She doubted she could get it as small as either Stark, but even a 50% savings would be great.

She got it shrunk by 60% and with another 10% increase even over the test reactor with the new element. That would be useful.

And in April, she started experimenting with how fast she could withdraw the RV from the spiritual sea in such a way to ensure she was in it. This took a lot of trial and error, and she was very glad she could repair with a touch.

A lot of the components she stored in her spiritual sea - a blend of cutting edge tech, Kree Empire tech, and tech she remembered from the Old Republic. It'd let her put a base up quicker. Hopefully. The Sensors would be the most useful, as she suspected near Earth space was more busy than she thought.

And on April 19th, she felt confident enough as she stored everything in her spiritual sea, and promised to return in a month.

And then used Instant Transmission to send herself to the asteroid.

She, of course, immediately started to decompress and choke, but she held it together long enough to have the "RV" appear around her and immediately stop it as the pressured and life support environment was working, albeit with a few leaks she immediately plugged. She also activated the anchors, keeping it anchored to the location she picked as she focused her magic on the asteroid below.

It took about a full week to clear a cavity enough to move the RV inside and out of the sun. Even with the heat dispersal systems of the Kree and Republic, that was just not a pleasant situation to be in. That said, teleporting through several meters of alloy and rock was.. uncomfortable. Hitomi did start setting up actual permanent rooms in the inside, and started fitting airlocks and hidden doors.

Idea for organisation change.
HYDRA infiltrated some of the highest echelons of SHIELD. But that is a sword that cuts both ways. SHIELD has infiltrated HYDRA as well.
 
The plot of First Class is.. to stop a nuclear missile exchange.

Which, as you can understand, Xiaoqiao responds to with extremely excessive force.

I finally decided how to handle luck, which is just a straight roll of the stat mod. It felt the most thematic and easiest to use.

I'm also changing the flow of events. Base actions occur before your turn, since a lot of them will be based on your vote.

Hitomi spends some time installing a second passive layer of armor to deflect any scans reaching into the interior. And, assuming she didn't have her shields or weapons out, any real reason to care about the asteroid.

The shield grids were a bit more tricky, as she needed to layer them and the power systems to prevent good hits on the exterior from disabling the entire thing.

She got it all down in one day, relying on her limited need to sleep, and then got the stealth bafflers up, as well as passive measures. She wasn't a hole in space, but she should seem like a fairly useless asteroid, and the power emissions from her arc reactors minimal.

Which was good, because the heat dispersal systems created a signature that she could only mask somewhat.

The Kree technology was.. something. Hitomi was reminded uncomfortable with some Sith technology using it, and setting up the holoprojectors. It supported more interactive holograms and such, which she was happy with, and it had interesting implications for her communication systems. Which, to be fair, could support holocommunications.

But she was going to need advanced sensors to penetrate other people's stealth, too.

She set up the storage to be secured and sealable - the principles were actually familar to most secure storage professionals, with the advantage of her using holotechnology to provide labels and notes that did not need to be written on the box aside from warnings.

That took a good few hours, what took more time was her finally going through everything stuffed in her spiritual sea. Why did HYDRA's agents have so much money? Bribes?

The plane, as she suspected, was useless, but it did have some fascinating technologies that she could use to track SHIELD and HYDRA, and implemented them in. The cars.. had plenty of trackers, but also enough that she promptly built an properly secured armory and shoved all of the weaponry in there that wasn't personal.

Most of it she just used as fodder to build some armor around the core base where it couldn't be detected and provide proper internal security systems, as well as prototype the communications systems. She suspected the technology would be inferior to Republic or Kree technology.

She also had to isolate the several computer systems. Just in case.

Hitomi considered what to do here with securing and power outputs needed for what she knew. Actually, she had an idea. She wanted to get some of this tech into Earth's hands. She might be a daughter of another Earth, and she might not longer be human, but she was still a daughter of Earth.

So she visited Howard Stark, posing as something close to the truth, a scientist wanting the opinion of one of the most famous scientific-inventors.

The thing she sent ahead was her notes on how to miniaturize the arc reactor and - well, that opened doors.

So she does so. She was surprised but not too much that her dress as a maid got raised eyebrows, but she had been cleaning anyway, but she presented her notes, including one that drew Howard's attention rigidly.

"You..you synthesized it?"

"Yes. I have access to methods that allow me to synthesize any material I can understand." Hitomi nods. "I can't share them, nor can I give access to them, but I can synthesize a limited sample of minerals."

She could do more, but she wasn't going to admit that. "If you look at the pages behind you, you can see the calculations I worked out. It's not the most optimal, but I think an element with atomic weight 164 is beyond me."

Howard laughed weakly. "I expected Tony to do that." The younger Stark poked his head in on hearing that, well, almost hitting on her, if it wasn't for her warning look.

She soon has some suggestions, as well as some optimizations of the proposed engines.

"I think, if I am honest.." Hitomi says, thinking. "I'm not a good scientist or engineer, in the sense I can synthesize from what I know. I am not able to take the intuitive leaps of logic yet. Maybe never. I've been learning by reading papers and then following them back to books at a library, but."

The two stare at her. "That is.. an inefficient way to learn." Howard scribbles some things down. "I'd start with these. They'll give you a grounding."

"Wh-" Howard gets out, Tony white as a sheet.

"HAIL HYDRA!" They chant, only to be surprised when Hitomi has already closed the distance in a flash, drawing her sword in a horizontal slash against them. She would extremely anticipate a faildeadly attack, possibly a fallback team, and therefore, the only defense is an extremely rapid offense.

The two stare at her in .. shock. Hitomi shakes her head at them. "We need to get moving. I cannot beleive they'd rest with a single technique. Also, where is your staff?"

Howard tenses. "I'd call SHIELD but.."

"I'd still do it." Hitomi says, cheerfully. "But I'd contact Coulson, May, or Fury. I've met them, they seemed trustworthy." Hitomi is still disguised as a blonde American, so it's the same disguise.

".. I am very worried you know them."

"I've ran across them." Hitomi says, blandly. Howard needs no further encouragement, and Hitomi.. cautiously, but firmly, clears the mansion. The staff was fine, just misdirected. She does have to flush out a second squad with RPGs, though.

"... What were you working on?" Hitomi looks at Howard after they recouped. "It must have drawn attention. And even if you can't tell me, I'd be careful with it." Tony was.. off recovering somewhere, and seemed surprised when Howard promised to discuss with him what he was allowed to discuss.

"He could not." A new voice cuts in, and they see.. Director Carter, being escorted by Fury and Coulson. "You must be.."

"Takeda Hitomi." She bows. Fury's eyes twitches.

She was unsurprised Fury knew it essentially meant "Jane Doe" in Japanese.

"She was here to consult about improvements to the Arc Reactor." Howard said. "They were SHIELD agents, but she prevented them from killing us. She called them HYDRA."

"Well, they are." Hitomi observed blandly. "I don't know if it's what happened here, but consider that Operation Paperclip just let a lot of Nazi scientists work for the United States so it could maintain its superiority over the Communist East. It didn't mean they stopped being Nazi's."

Carter looked at her in horror as she realized both meanings of the statement. Fury was.. furious.

"I do have some useful things for you, though." Hitomi said. She handed a box to Fury. "Recordings, data, and other information about several HYDRA operations I ran across. They were going to experiment on .. mmm, call them Inhumans. Someone called "the Secretary" let a scientist - Werner Reinhardt - loose. I corrected it."

"... What is your goal?" Coulson asked, taking this opening.

"Evil must be opposed." She said flatly. "That and to build a future for mutants, but even that path requires HYDRA and other such organizations to be gone. I may dislike the US government - it's always been hypocritical and too willing to run ramshod over other nations - but at least, theoretically, it answers to it's electorate."

Carter and Fury looked over the box, their faces darkening. "Where are these agents?"

"Gone. The villagers took offense."

"And why di-" Fury knew the answer to this. She had no way to turn them into any agency. "I must ask you stop." Carter said

"I already have." Hitomi raised her eyebrows. "I was preparing to find a way to just get the information to Fury, Coulson, or May, as I trust they are actually SHIELD agents. I cannot trust your leadership, as the first thing I'd do if I was trying to infiltrate an organization is co-op their leadership, so that anamalous orders can be hidden."

"Logical." Coulson said. "But we would like a way to contact you if we need to."

Hitomi considers. "I was going to discuss this technology with Mr. Stark as well. So." She hands Coulson a disc. "This is a holocommunicator. I have it rigged to a relay and I will answer if you contact. Let me demonstrate it's use."

A tiny Hitomi appeared, shocking them. "I suspect that Stark can make it more.. well, featured." Hitomi says with a twitch of her lips. "I am not great at engineering, and I could not add more features to this basic model. It's secured, but that's about it."

She hands one to Fury and Stark. "That last one is for you to experiment with. I do not have more, so I would be careful."

"Couldn't you patent it and make money?" Howard Stark asks after a second.

Fury interrupts. "That's likely not her real name. It's the equivalant of Jane Doe in Japan."

Hitomi smiles some. "It's the only name I've ever used here, so it's real enough. Seriously, though, I thought about it, but I was going to ask you if you could sign it over to Xaiver's Institute for Gifted Youngsters.. whenever he forms it... They'll need it long term."

"Xaiver.. that's the mutant behind the new mutant-human alliance and humantarian organizations, right?" Coulson says.

"Close, I'm the one working on the organizations. Xaiver.. chases the dream of everyone living together. I'm not sure it'll happen, but.. it is worth chasing. If nothing else, it should lessen the fear of the other."

Hitomi considers. "Hopefully. Regardless, I would worry more about HYDRA. How long have they been infilitrating? I don't have the access, or the time, to check on every SHIELD, or former SHIELD base.."

The four look at each other, and realize the magnitude of the task in front of them. Hitomi smiles, and "You have my contact information. I am on a timeline, too. I'll forward a report of why once it's over, I feel you may need the information. I am also willing to work on a quid pro quo basis. Just.. not for the next.. 20 days. I suspect I will be unavilable..."

"You want money?" Carter said, clearly disapproving.

"I don't need it as much. I make a decent wage working as a maid." Hitomi said. "No, I .. am not able to research things in depth sometimes. I may just ask for information or where to get it, or if I can't, why I can't. In return, I am happy to either provide information or assist in an operation as long as it's something that doesn't compromise my current goals. For example, I'm currently looking into the Hellfire Clubs, but as they're closed, it's hard for me to make first-person investigations and assessments."

Fury's eyes narrow. "Why are you looking into that?"

Carter holds a hand up. "I do know why, and it's currently classified above your levels. You must be one of the consultants the CIA hired on." Hitomi nods.

"Well, that's fair then." Director Carter nods, understanding that she wasn't going to be unreasonable.

Hitomi nods, and looks again at Howard Stark, then says in an entirely sober, serious voice. "Your current project will kill you within a year if you do not abandon it. The Heavens have decreed so, and your enemies are aware of what it is. Heed my voice, Howard, son of Howard. You will not see a new world's dawn if you do not divert from this path. So has this Maiden of Endings seen." She disappeared in a bolt of light.

Unknowingly, Tony had heard that.

The others looked at each other.

"What kind of my-"

Fury interrupted "Director, permission to go to Nepal? I have a friend who might know more of what she was talking about."

"Granted. Stark, suspend progress. We'll make a judgement once we get more information. Spend some time with your son."

Howard laughs bitterly. "I don't know how to, but I'll try. Maybe we can work on this communicator together."

"I would like that." Tony said from the doorway. "And I would like to know more about our mystery guest."

"Believe me." Coulson said. "I think we all would."

The only thing they figured out was the relay was in the second lagrange point, indicating it was positioned to recieve from anywhere on the Earth-Moon sphere, which was in itself an oddity. Still, the technology lead to Tony Stark becoming the CEO of a Stark Industries Subsidiary focusing on the uses of holotechnology.

What.. all of them realized with some surprise, was that it seemed straight out of Star Wars.

Fury returned back, with a report that basically indicated that she was known to the Sorcerers of Kamar-Taj, and that a Maiden of Endings appeared to herald the end of an age, and were nearly always correct about such fates. Fury did not seem pleased they knew he was coming and he couldn't get any other information.

Stark .. reluctantly stopped working on the project. Officially, it was cancelled, and unofficially, it was known it had defeated him. HYDRA was more busy trying to find this Hitomi, anyway.

.. extradimensional storage bay doors. It was a particualrly annoying utilization of Kree technology combined with Republic technology, but she didn't want the weak point when she didn't have staff or ships or anything but turrets in here.

She was going to have to do something about that.

This was the trickiest bit, but she had a suite of weapons that would defend the ship, as well as provide a lot of firepower. She could see situations where she might have to provide sustained firepower to say, defeat a mass nuclear attack.

Thankfully, with the books she had access to, she could come up with a good engine cluster that didn't reveal too much about the base. Making it look like an asteroid was .. tricky.

She leaves her notes on portals to other planes, or ways to scan them behind. Nilfheim still nagged at her.

After the assassination attempt at Stark's mansion, well... Tony Stark was actually designing his own mansion, and SHIELD was sending people out everywhere.

Coulson had drawn the short straw, and him and May were checking out abanonded bases in New Jersey and the Applachians.

Fury was sent to the North Institute. And .. promptly arrested everyone and shut it down. And burnt the research. Most of the people arrested.. mysteriously died in prison. Peculiar, that. But he was really curious why there was Russian operatives here.

When she reappeared, she found .. Magneto, and a cast of people there. Magneto eyed her with some surprise.

Hitomi smiled faintly. "I had to deal with SHIELD, and I didn't change back after I spent some time getting things working. I am Takeda Hitomi."

The others - Angel Salvatore, Alex Summers, Munoz - are surprised to see her. "Are you a teleporter?"

"I am a kitsune - I know some techniques." Hitomi says dryly. "And, Cerebro confirms, a mutant. It must be latent, still." Xaiver interjects, standing against the table.

That seems to soothe an unease. "We plan to lead a mission into the Soviet Union to find out what is going on."

And so they do! .. Hitomi is left behind with the others to defend the CIA agency - only to get.. well, attacked.

Hitomi peers at them, unamused, having to barrier and let the CIA men get away. She's also trying to figure someway to block the teleportation. The enemy teleporter obligingly helps her by teleporting around, causing the two to play cat and mouse as she has to unleash attacks to just hold them back.

Much to her dismay, though, Shaw just seems to absorb the energy, leading her to come to a conclusion.

"Tell me, Sebastian Shaw." Hitomi says flatly, aware she shouldn't know his name. "What happens when a vampire encounters a black hole?" Shaw was beginning to visibly weaken as she pulled in more and more energy to the blade.. but also had to weaken the field as it's aura was sucked in, allowing the enemy teleporter to attempt to teleport them out.

The others stare at her as the blade disappears. "I should have anticipated someone could poke a hole through that." Hitomi says. She looks dispassionately at Azrael. "At least Shaw no longer has at-will transportation. My apologies. "

Havoc, formerly a member of the military, nods. "Well, at least we've beaten him off. I wonder why he wanted a nuclear exchange."

"Supremicists do not work on logic." Hitomi says. "There are very few mutants that could survive a limited nuclear exchange, the odds of having enough survive a general exchange are tiny. It might be a mutant empire...but it'd be a gesture of futile defiance, and gone within a generation or two, from my understanding of the X gene unless they got excessively lucky about who was in the group, and where they were."

".. He's even more in trouble by the fact if I can't find a way to depower him to stand trial, he's likely dead." Hitomi says flatly. "In any case.." She pulls out a communicator, having handed one to Xaiver, and contacts him. "Shaw attacked the base." She says. "I drove him back, and his transporter is dead. Still, he likely has a lot of resources."

"We've arrested their telepath. Emma Frost," Xaiver continues. "But we can't find where three missiles went, nor a Soviet general. It's chaos over here, and I think Shaw is taking full advantage of it."

"Great." Hitomi says flatly.

"We're recouping at base." Moira's voice comes on.

Dr. McCoy was talking to Raven about a "cure" for their appearence, but Raven seemed to be unwilling, after having several discussinds. Hitomi had been reading several books and doing some calculations, debating if she'd need a set of satellites.

She looked up as it neared an argument, and said rather plainly. "Let her. She doesn't want to fit in, and shouldn't have to. How others behave is up to them." She eyed the 'cure' carefully. "I think I'd reexamine it, myself. Just make sure it does what you think it does."

Raven said "Then you think we shouldn't fit in?"

"I think that's up to the individual. There's an argument that fitting in is wise to avoid fights. But mutants are people, and we celebrate the diversity in people - mutatis mutandis, or as a Trek fan might tell you, Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations." Hitomi said, giving Raven a long look. "I do not think any one person is superior in being a person to any other by might alone. That also means I do not think they are inferior. I fight to make sure anyone can live their life, provided they hurt no one. "

Hitomi doesn't realize by now she's got an audience. "And that is why I make my own decisions about who I work with. Organizations and people can change. Remain constant in your oath, in your ideals, do not accept needless harm."

".. you killed someone yesterday." Havok points out.

"I did, but that was an combat situation." Hitomi said. "And I said needless. Stopping people who wish to provoke a nuclear war is very much needed harm."

Raven seems thoughtful.

Hitomi also does some research while she works. This sends her to various places, and to keep SHIELD from getting *too* worried, she keeps them appraised.

One takes her to.. Sarajevo, to pin down a peculiar reading. And promptly overhears a SHIELD agent asking for extraction.. and not getting it. Hitomi .. ends up performing emergency medical aid while contacting Coulson, who immediately informs the two that he'll be there personally in six hours.

"If SHIELD isn't loyal to me." John Garett mutters mutinously.

".. You would say your primary loyalty is SHIELD, correct?" Hitomi looks up briefly as she continues to administer emergency aid. He'd really need proper care, but she could bridge him there. "I would say someone or something in SHIELD is working to injure agents of SHIELD. That or it's a particularly bad form of office politics."

Garett laughs weakly. "I almost hope that's right. How did you have Coulson's number?"

"I've ran across him." Hitomi is evasive, but honest.

A few hours later, Coulson arrives with a paramedic, and the paramedic gives her an approving nod seeing her emergency medicine. "Good going. Are you trained?"

Hitomi smiles, some. "Yes, by an order of monks far far away. They wanted all of the disciples to be able to provide aid to those who need it long enough to get them to a hospital."

Everyone just looked at her, the paramedic in both horror and intrigue at who would do that. "Anyway, I'm off." Hitomi said. "I need to get the data I came for, after all."

"..Which data?" Coulson said

"There's some.. peculiar gravitational artifacts here. I'm not sure why, and I'm looking into it." Hitomi bowed, and then went to investigate. When she felt the HYDRA and SHIELD tails, she.. well, cheated. After all, a way to disappear was to blend in, and in the red light sector, she had multiple options.

This later meant that Grant Ward was recruited by a SHIELD aligned Garrett, who got his father arrested when he happened to see his father trying to let his brother die.

Hitomi was in New York. By now she had to resort to creating another disguise and had studied Raven's ability enough to shape her own ability to change herself. Actually, her and Raven were disguised as tourists from Latin America, and ran across IGH. The guards tried to grab them as potential subjects, and .. well, Hitomi took offense.

The NCPD was called in and immediately arrested everyone.. Well. By now, Hitomi and Raven had abandoned that disguise and were now German women, leaving New York... and Raven had a far better understanding of why Hitomi was inflexible and very understanding that there was no real power difference.

In Great Britain.. Hitomi was walking down a country path, disguised as a black haired older Scottish woman. It was her vacation, but she was also investigating a rumour about a possible base of Shaw's. And.. she saw what looked like someone controlling their parents, in what was.. well, malicious glee.

"Do not do that." Hitomi projected command into her voice, countering and cancelling the command.

The boy looked at her.. then again at her, a bit more.. Hitomi calmly knocked him out in a surprise move. "Mind explaining?" She said, bluntly.

And once she got her stories, she .. was very conflicted. But the easiest method was to "heal", the powers away.

And .. she did, channeling her Qi. She also was pretty sure this boy would not be long for the world, as his parents showed no sign of wanting him around anymore.

So.. she dropped him off with a warning and explanation at Child Services with his parents and left.. and made a point of never using that again.

The thing about criss-crossing the world, Hitomi thought, is that she often relied on her eidetic memory to keep track of her disguises. It's also why she stock to a very few and simply tried to avoid nations that were behind the Iron Curtain when she had any choice in the matter.

Hence why she was in Japan currently, on a trip to Hokkaido. This was more a personal curiosity. This was where she was born, and she had a few theories she needed to rule out. And..

Well, she never got close. Some agents politely but firmly asked her if she could visit a shrine with them, which .. struck her as odd. Japan had it's share of rather secretive agencies, but.. the shrine?

Still, she followed. To let the events come to you, rather than fight them, was as important to seek out and prevent events. And.. when she got there, she understood exactly why. The shrine maiden was a kitsune. This kitsune, if she was forced to guess, was a good hundred years older, and had nine tails.

Hitomi had reverted from her disguise - which was.. not very involved, if she was honest - out of respect. The shrine maiden bowed as the others left, with Hitomi cutting a deeper bow.

"I am glad to see a fellow daughter of the spirits here, Ci Xiaoqiao." The maiden says. "I am Takeshimura Keiko. I am glad I stopped you, but I do think this would be beneficial to you to learn this before I get to why I stopped you."

She walks her to something on the edge of the shrine - a veritable crack that sets Hitomi's teeth on end. "Look inside.. but not too deeply."

Hitomi sees.. what she thinks is a dark dimension, and dares not extend her senses into it. But.. the sense of wrongness grows. And she finds herself instinctively closing it, repairing the fabric of the veil.

"I thought so." The maiden nods to herself, a theory confirmed.

Hitomi eyes the maiden. "... What was that dark dimension? And why did it feel like it had demons in it?"

"That was the Dark Dimension. It has demons in it."

Hitomi, out of respect, does not facepalm. She really wanted to.

World 3: Part 5: Interlude 2: A Day In Many People's Lives. (Various, Late May 1990)
The interlude!



Tony Stark was working on back engineering the holographic technology in the communicator, as he had some ideas for it. On a screen, he was glaring at the newest Microsoft offering, Windows 3.0. And already contemplating rewriting it to better serve his needs.

But it was something he wanted to try out, and it let him backtrack an oddity. There had been buzz in some BBSs about a new node - something labeled themorningstar.t01k.space. And it was well secured. But he found it a fun puzzle, and eventually hacked through it..

But it took forever. He started timing responses, and found it came to about 16 and 2/3rds minutes. That... He drew a map, and drawing a line.. realized it wasn't a L1 or L2 relay. It was a L3 or L4 relay, much further out.

Except.. the time was decreasing. Every time. Whatever it was pointing to, was getting closer.

The terminal beeped, and he looked at it. "... I should have figured it'd have been you, Stark. Either one of you. Well, thanks for pointing out what wasn't secured. I've fixed it. Just.. contact me via the communicator, would you - CX." The terminal disconnects.

Tony laughed a bit. Well, that might explain the advanced.. well, in some places not.. technology.

(Hitomi is relocating her base to the L2 point, making it behave like an asteroid being captured to a closer orbit to Earth... not that anyone on Earth except the Kree would even know...)

Alexander Pierce liked to think he could control people like pawns. And having all of the security council's badges replaced ruined that. Director Carter was.. getting suspicious, he felt. Although, she was still focusing on branches that he could sacrifice without any compuction.

It was this Japanese maid that caused this, he felt, and even if it wasn't, she had eliminated several very important operatives and caused various targets of HYDRA to go to ground. As such, he sent a priority one call to HYDRA - eliminate this Takeda Hitomi.

Meanwhile, on Asgard..

Thor was troubled, as he had been since encountering that strange fox-woman. Dimly, he could understand, but how should he be a warrior now? Loki had offered some suggestions, and Thor had struggled with it.. but he felt that this was a lot. A lot a lot.

Odin watched from a distance, and contemplated how to approach it, on his end. And .. between him and Frigga, the two were trying to bridge the gap with their sons. It was hard work.

But he had been reminded that hard work was necessary. And soon, he promised himself, he'd tell Loki about his heritage.

Heimdall continued to watch, and occasionally slip scrolls.

  • Perfect Memory (SRC: L1 Selection) - Your memory is perfect. You can recall anything not blocked by supernatural means of any kind, and gain a bonus to resistance rolls vs. supernatural memory means. Memory drugs do not work on you.     • [Tier 2] - Create A Pocket Plane - You can create a plane that you control and can retreat to. This plane is considered coterminus to the main one, and it's defenses are based on your rank. Note that you can not overlay your plane onto this one yet. Such a plane will by default not be habitable without work. Powers that work on your spiritual sea will work on this plane, and enhance your plane's size. (Note: Xiaoqiao can use this for attunement, but later, will get powers that enhance this, such as using it to overlay onto another plane and unleashing attacks from prepared weapons.)




Powers

  • Gamer's Body - Medicines take effect instantly, and every hour of rest restores 15% of all resources, and 1 extreme injury, 2 serious injuries, and 4 minor injuries. Injuries that would remove limbs or immediately kill the player are converted to HP damage instead. In this case, though, it's a blessing of the Celestial Bureaucracy.
  • Wandering Last Survivor- You are the last survivor of your world. You have made your peace with this, but it has affected you deeply.
    • When attempting an Appraise or Performance roll, gain 18 in it, as you recall a story, or event, from your old world.
    • Gain Title: "Last of Her World"
  • Kitsune Tail Powers
    • First Tail' - Channel magic/technique through weapons; requires a certain amount of material.
    • Second Tail - Gain Fox-Fire. (3d10 mystical fire, can target targets = number of tails, or use it to enhance stats by +3 per tail)
    • Third Tail - Damage of Fox-Fire increases to 5d10, stat increase to +5 per tail.
    • Fourth Tail - Gain Create Illusions, as if it was a L3 spell. These are exceptionally believable.

  • Fatebreaker - Gain +5 to any roll to alter fate. In certain situations, can change history towards the users will.
  • Limited Gamer's Mind- One playing the Game of the System gains a mind of a video game character. In this case, though, it's a blessing of the Celestial Bureaucracy.
    • Needs 2 hour of rest per 24 hours up. Can force immediate sleep, and mind control and alteration effects no longer function. Lessens the effects of extreme stress and emotion, and grants access to the Concentration and Tranquility skills.

Hitomi spends a few days creating a crafters environment. She had been tweaking the holographics to allow interaction - and she had promptly spent the next day to create a library, create books from memory.. and that had been a fun spell experiment.

And had then.. copied a bunch of books for reference. She had been poking at the computers, but the computers she remembrered were still years in the future.

She returned to prototyping the build. The hyperspace drive wouldn't work here. She had tested it by doing a basic experiment, and then looked into various methods. She wasn't sure where she'd need to experiment with, and while she understood how to create a bridge.. she didn't think she wanted to use this as a drive method.

So she prototyped one, to see where she was running into problems.

Hitomi was idly going through things, when she ran across the caster gun she had gotten so long ago. And now, she could see how to improve it.

So she did. She pulled out several of the guns she'd never need, and cross comparing, came up with .. a magic gun.

Hitomi's Turn
Hitomi was busy getting the base customized, and such, but she didn't forget why she was there. She was scanning the planet for nuclear missiles. It would take time to verify it against known and what intelligence the CIA had, but she knew she needed to find the missiles. It's also why she had taken trips to various locations, and well.. the library in the base was growing. That and the fact she could use extradimensional space to create larger-than-it-looks containers and the library database with holoprojectors..

Well. Hitomi had plans for a neat spell effect, but shelved them in her private office, which was well secured, for when she had time to verify her calculations.

It wasn't long before she detected some suspicious readings from Siberia, and as she was basically splitting her time between her base and the mansion, she was about to bring it up when..

.. a lot of the readings disappeared. They were clearly traps. There was only one reading left that could be it, located near .. Saskylakh, Russia. Looking at heat maps.. it was in the middle of nowhere, deep in the Arctic Circle.

Well then. She flipped back down to her normal sensors, and left a note to herself about fixing the issues here, and headed back to the mansion.

It took more time than she liked to convince everyone.. including the CIA who were VERY curious how she found that data when they didn't. But when she pointed out how she'd attempt to fool orbiting satellites, and they recalibrated.. they found it too. Essentially, her paranoia was something they accepted.

The issue is.. well, the Soviet Union may be falling apart at this point of time, but they'd still notice most methods of inserting.

But they manage to get in, and Hitomi was well.. less hot* than the others, but it was really only her and Wolverine who seemed less bothered by the temps. So they made their way.. covertly.. against someone who .. well, Hitomi wasn't sure.

.. Hitomi, Xaiver, Moira, and Erik were having a debate. It was largely over exclusivtism, and eventually, Hitomi won it by pointing out that both approaches were needed to a limited extent... And by pointing out that there were completely undeveloped lands in the South Pacific miles away from anything but Point Nemo, albeit as she reminded them, for a very good reason, and failing that, they could build one.

"You need to try and work with everyone." Hitomi said, thinking. "But you can't be unreasonable about your own security. We all know that people fear difference. And.. I cannot speak to wanting to live with people who hate me. I wouldn't. So having the choice.."

Magneto, thoughtful, had agreed. It would be a challenge, but ..

The fight itself.. was messy. The Hellfire Club mutants were unable to put up a long fight, but everyone knew that was going to happen. So everyone goes all out. It's a very bruising fight, and at the end, it's Xaiver and Magneto facing Shaw.. and Hitomi facing what she could charitably call.. a minor demon.

The fight in the base turned a bit feral as Hitomi was forced to resort to constant use of her techniques, before they started to retreat. The problem is, she was working on how to close the portal, and that's really hard to do when you are under constant attack.

It wasa good thing that the fight against Shaw was very anticlimatic, as Hitomi was almost out of energy and very injured. She hadn't even really defeated any demon, just forced them to retreat. The portal had been closed by the brute force firing of the energy drain techniques into it, and draining it's energy to nothing.

The real fight came after, and Hitomi very much had to point out to Xaiver that many were fully aware where he was located. They rapidly cleaned up after themselves as best they could.

And.. then they saw the approaching Soviet Army, and retreated.

That was a problem. Sort of. Hitomi can't mass teleport, but she knew where their plane was, and they started fighting a rear guard action as they retreated.

.. But honestly, Hitomi got good at rapid-fire teleportation, and they retreated out before they could get identified.

Hmm... I wonder how much AP it would take to prevent the collapse of the USSR and cleanse it of the corruption that led it to this collapse? This might have given rise to some curious butterflies, and I would have felt better if the ensuing events in this world had not happened.
