The Shadow of Old Transgressions (Homeworld/Mass Effect Crossover Quest)

I think the useful questions for this approach are: Do we have a range advantage on Ninhursag? Can we actually hurt it from that range? Is it faster than us to chase us down if we try this?
Our missiles probably outrange it's ion cannons, so... Though the Tiamat does have good acceleration profiles from what we know, so it is anyone's guess as to how the upcoming fight might go.

If our missiles connect I don't see how they wouldn't do damage, smashing capitals was what they were designed for.

For 'can we hurt it', I was mostly thinking their ion cannons might work as point defense to shoot the missiles down depending on how big they are.

If we're trying to kite them from beyond their range, they wouldn't be shooting at us anyway if things are going to plan. The other concern would be that if you can't chase down someone trying to kite you, you find some way to force them to stand and fight you, usually by making you defend something else. So if we try the outrange strategy, we'll have to watch for them finding Bentus or some progenitor tech. Actually, another issue with attacking is that Ninhursag was launching more barnacles even as we retreated, and those might be fast enough to catch us even if the big boy itself wasn't. How do we stack up against barnacles, currently? Is that the T-Mat snub fighter?

Barnacles are frigates IIRC. What they actually look like or are armed with I dunno.

Repairing Bentus first gives us the option to leave if we don't want to commit to the losses trying to kill the Reefship would incur even if successful. So there's that.
I know the GM said we just got unlucky, but there was a lot of "you don't have the tools" going on in the last clash. And the Reefship will have repaired itself just as we are, so... Eh. I'd want some Sentinels in warforms if we were going to try and kill the blasted thing.

Repairing Bentus fully would take time you don't have. Potentially months in a fully fitted Bentusi shipyard. You on the other hand have mere days if not hours and whatever Aurora can put together in her hangar.

Nonetheless you get to work. Service drones are deployed into Bentus's superstructure to find and catalog damage. Aurora constructs a massive gantry that strips away mangled armor and fabricates new plates as damaged systems are patched up. Everyone churns out as many replacement components as they can on their personal fabricators and a steady line of resource drones installs them into Bentus before using their PDAs to make more jury rigged repairs.

You and your friends work as fast as you can both on Bentus and slipping in whatever repairs you can make on your own vessels. The drones are unfortunately left to languish. But they have their purpose too. By the second day T-mat fighters have found your location. By the third Barnacles are arriving in a steady wave, and you set your damaged drones to fend them off.

On the fourth day your time runs out as the barnacles and fighters overwhelm your drones. The Kushan flotilla moves to reinforce them and after sending off the last batch of fabricated components you move to follow them. What follows is a running battle as you fight through a constant stream of T-Mat vessels.

They attack from every direction infiltrating through the corridors of the progenitors wreckage and you soon realize that the nature of the three dimensional labyrinth makes it impossible to try and guard every possible avenue of attack. Instead you strengthen your defensive fields as much as possible and simply weather the storm. Between you and the Kushan battlecruisers you are able to destroy every barnacle that dares stand in your way and make a direct push to the central chamber. Hopefully by intercepting the T-Mat at the source you'll be able to cut off their probing parties.

Fortunately it isn't far and you soon return to the scene of the last battle with the reef ship. You are unsurprised to find that it seems to have repaired much of its own damage in the last few days, but fortunately it doesn't appear to have been able to return to full capacity.

It is however sending out a seemingly unending stream of T-Mat barnacles. You can see they're entering the wreckage at three points, including the one you came out of. The more of them reach Bentus the harder it will be to finish repairs.

[ ] Cover the Primary Entry
You are on the most dark route to Bentus. As long as you guard it not only will you intercept the largest waves of T-Mat, but any of them on other routes will take longer to reach Bentus giving more time between waves for the defenders there.

[ ] Send the Kushan to cover a Secondary Entry
By splitting up you'll be able to cover two of the three access points that the T-Mat are using. This will drastically reduce the number of barnacles that reach Bentus leaving mostly fighters to attack the defenders. The downside is that you'll need to cover the Primary Entry with only your own vessel and the small number of acolytes you can produce in your own hangars.

[ ] Attempt to interdict the Tertiary Entry
Ask the Kushan to send their escorts to cover the smaller entrance that the T-Mat interceptors are using. This will completely stop the flow of T-Mat attackers, but will leave all of you spread dangerously thin.

Quest Note: This is a short one because I just wanted to get something out to try and crack my writer's block. Unlike my normal posting I plan to try and post another update tomorrow or the day after depending on how the votes look.

That's true, but we haven't exactly been playing this whole thing as if we're casualty-averse so far. As is, the point of plugging the holes was getting around the whole 3-d space problem, and I'm not sure what plugging just one of three holes is going to accomplish for us on that score. At least by covering two, we have been explicitly told that mostly interceptors can get through the last one and spare acolytes from our friends should be able to tangle with those.

Fair enough, changing my vote.
