I see a solid dependable soldier type and I'm just getting the hyper beam eyes.

So, I'd like to propose a discussion piece for the thread. What do you see Ambraea doing in 10 years(Age 30), and how do you see your current choice of potential husband assisting Ambraea with that?

The main thing I see Ambraea doing, is experimenting with Sorcery, possibly with a side of traveling abroad, intermixed with instances of realm intrigue.

Sesus Ambar brings us closer to Amiti's family, Amiti herself being particularly gifted in the theoretical aspects of sorcery. We might well become Amiti's preferred host within the family which would certainly make working together easier. As a Sesus trained in the arts of governance at the spiral academy, Ambar likely is at least skilled enough for middling house management and well suited to hiding or diverting unwanted attention from the sort of things Amiti, Ambraea and Maia would be getting up to in this scenario, and his house would be more tolerant of Ambraea and Maia's on secretive dealings as well.

Vneef Darting Fish on the would be an accomplished sorcerer in his own right, and his previously demonstrated abilities would align well with the possibility of travel I mentioned as an outlier of the future I see for Ambraea. His families merchant fleets and wealth would ease the acquiring of rare spell components or knowledge from outside the realm, and given the newness of the great house, there is a good deal of shaping left that Ambraea could influence, possibly seeing a Simendor like emphasis on the value of sorcery begin to take hold.

What makes this question complicated is that what Ambraea thinks she will be doing in the next 10 years is likely going to be a bit different from what she will actually be doing. At the moment, Ambraea is planning on building up her household, with the possibility of founding her own Great House at some point in the future. In a few months, however, the Empress is going to disappear, and House Ambraea is only a possibility if the Empress is there to grant it to her.

Ambraea needs to build alliances, and I think that Houses Cathak and Peleps are two of her best bets. House Cathak is one of the three military houses, and will only grow stronger after the fall of the Tepet legions. House Peleps practically controls the navy. Any factions that form after the Empress disappears will seek the favor of these two houses.

House V'neef may be in a strong position now, but it's going to be in a pretty precarious situation when the Empress is gone. It only recently gained control of the merchant fleets and House Peleps really wants them back. Peleps can't do anything about that now, but they'd be a powerful enemy in a civil war. V'neef, as the Empress's current favored daughter, is probably also going to be seen as a major threat by anyone with a claim on the throne.

That all said, I mainly chose Isri and Vemi because I think either one would be a cute husband for Ambraea.

"I am surprised to see you, My Empress," your father says, as you climb to your feet beside him. "I was told that you had an important engagement."

The Empress laughs as though at a private joke. She's less ostentatiously dressed than she had been at court earlier, but even in a more casual gown, she doesn't sacrifice an ounce of her authority. "Yes, I do have a private audience to attend," she freely admits, "but it's nothing that can't be postponed. I enjoy teaching that man the value of patience, sometimes — for old time's sake."

Something about the comment does not invite inquiry about who she means, although part of you burns with curiosity.

Did.... did we just get used by mom to deliberately make Chejop Kejack stew a bit?

The problem with this is, as two such desirable and well positioned grand houses, they have their pick of allies following tepets fall and Ambraea's mothers disappearance, making Ambraea one young sorceress in a sea of potential allies vying for influence and connection with them. Worst, she is someone only beginning to build such connections, leaving her with less influence, sway, and most importantly, trust than those who have long courted them.

House V'neef or sesus on the other hand, we have a long established connection to and multiple introductions to members both significant and not. While a marriage to Cathak or Peleps would only be a tentative step into establishing familiarity with them, with Vneef or sesus it's more of a finalization of long cultivated allies. Ambraea would be more established in V'neef than her father's family, while sesus would be on the same level.

V'neefs vulnerability, combined with Ambraea's influence and resources, actually make it a more appealing option. V'neef survives the coming civil war without Ambraea afterall. With Ambraea, her presumably expanded Hearth, and possible allies through Ambraea's Burano connection, V'neef has a chance to come out of the civil war stronger than otherwise, and Ambraea can establish herself more strongly in a grand house with much to lose that she's already established herself with than a house that has less need of her and neither trusts or appreciates her as much. It's bit more of a gamble, but there all gambles.

More cute than sorcery nerds Ambraea and Darting Fish sailing around to collect rare spell components, Darting Fish forced to play amicable husband to Ambraea's stoic Snake Witch?

Sesus is more funny than cute I suppose. Amiti is the cute in that situation. Cutely imposing on her cousin who must now pull off the social wheeling and dealing of a spiral academy graduate and Sesus family member while his Spirit Witch wife and Necromancer cousin do ominous sorcerer things that occasionally involve the denizens of the shadow lands or spirits which are "Only moderately dangerous" and of course, playing host to rare visits from a juvenile earth dragon spirit.

When I really think on it, is anyone but a sesus husband prepared to deal with the kind of shady sorcerous nonsense potential Hearth Bondmates Amiti, Ambraea, and Maia could get up to? It feels like poor pliable Cathak would find himself quickly in over his head, though I suppose the others would manage with time to prepare.

Well I think it's safe to say that Ambraea will be a sorceress if she is still alive then and do some kind of sorceress related things, so there is a basis of context we can apply. Also, given her friend circle, well, I think it's safe to say that between her two closest friends, the ones she is most protective of, and there less than societally acceptable inclinations, Ambraea is going to be doing damage control. Decades and decades of damage control.

You make good points.

To elaborate on my post I think that Isri would be cute precisely because he would be in over his head. I really like the dynamic of the scary serpent witch and her nervous house husband.

For Vemi I think his stated love of adventure could balance out Ambraea's more stoic demeanor but I'm not super attached to him.

I also like Ambar for the reasons you mentioned, but I would only vote for him if he and Isri are both likely to win.

Of course. The stalwart and immovable memory of a dragon of earth couldn't be overwritten by an exaltation, however grand.

I think it is more that the Sids do not do it to spirits, who are already bound not to blab about them to mortals. After all the one big bottleneck of the Chosen of the Stars is that they can be anywhere but not everywhere, the less of their power they have to use at any one time the better.

The fading is, based on what Gaze has said and implications in the narrative, entirely involuntary. They aren't choosing to not mind wipe spirits anymore than Demure Peony choose to mind wipe Ambraea the first day her exaltation kicked in. It's just a thing that happens since that thing that was elaborated on forever ago, but doesn't apparently happen to Diamond Cut Perfection.

This is correct. The effect isn't something Sidereals choose, it just happens and most of them would much rather it not. Sufficiently powerful spirits can resist, especially if they have a personal connection or charms that are good for memory or resistance, but even gods in Yu-Shan forget about specific Sids, even if they don't forget about them as a whole the way mortals and exalted do. Even that last exception is because the Bureau of Destiny is right there reminding everyone.

Diamond Cut Perfection is powerful, probably has several useful charms, and has met Peony. That's why she remembers and notices us not. She may also be aware of the implications, but that's not guaranteed.

It's more that they're good at memory stuff in part due to having been a gemlord, which doesn't have much of anything other than its mind. Like, Perfection is not immune to Arcane Fate, they're just one of the cast members most likely to accidentally beat it like this.

The Sidereals also did not intentionally create Arcane Fate in this edition. In earlier editions, they broke the mask intentionally to escape punishment for the Usurpation. In this edition, Arcane Fate was an accidental consequence of the magic they used to seal away the solar exaltations.

Because a stronger connection to Amiti, ties to a great military house of the real, social connections, and a solid pedigree are worth what ever cloak and dagger stuff that comes along with Seus.

Beyond that I have no strong feelings, but will throw a vote in for the Cathak as he seems like a good choice to manage the home while we do cool things and ties us to another major military power, while not creating any serious problems by choosing him.
