And yet, Linette's odds are not that much distant from her. She isn't even a "Grand Knight," actually…
THERE WERE LESS BETS ON THE RADIANT KNIGHT THEN I EXPECTED. STRANGE. I could have sworn… hm-hm.
Okay, potential clue here. The betting is very close and slightly in Linette's favor, which is noted as strange my multiple characters.

I'm not totally sure what this means, but perhaps those in the know are confident Linette will win? The Mirror'd knight didn't seem to have that great a reputation from what we've heard, and she's very cynical and worn … perhaps the match is rigged, somehow?
Without a second thought, Linette tosses the photograph on the floor, where it dissolves into a puddle of silvery sludge.
Okay, this is possible evidence against Linette not being able to use ranged attacks, although a photograph may just be small enough she doesn't care.
"I won't respond to your mockery."

Linette chuckles.

"You already did. Say, you ever hear the story of the Steel Determination?"

"...I have not."

The exact second she says this word, Beats finishes his speech- calling out for the battle. Nearl moves- and Linette's sword melts into yet another puddle.

Nearl strikes first, her polearm wreathed in night-scouring gleam. Her opponent takes the blow head-on, shielding herself with her gauntleted arms.

"He's right there! In the audience! My buddy!" laughs the other knight. "And he's cheering on me. So fuck the jobbing! I'll beat you, unfair and circle!"

And then-

And then-

She isn't there anymore. Nearl gasps.
Okay, this is how she outwits Nearl at the start. Pisses her off, provoked a heavy attack, and delivers a punishing retaliation. Linette's definitely switched up tactics, but the basic strategy is probably still at play.
Linette's stance shifts entirely, and she drops the wide swings. She goes for the kill. The skill that she failed to show is there, all of a sudden.

It was a facade.

She pretended to be simply wielding his strength, for just a second, mocking her with his face. To lure her into close range- and she fell for it.
Linette is really good at disguising what she's good at - it feels foolhardy to assume this is the last fake weakness of hers.
She has made a mistake, Margaret Nearl realizes. An obvious mistake. She dodges a thrust of her uncle's blade, and Linette delivers a kick to her ribs- a kick that should be physically impossible for her body to deliver. She heard the sounds of bone snapping.

She twisted her limb like this, breaking bones, just to hit her once.

It takes the air out of her lungs, and sends her backwards.
Goddamn, that is hardcore. I wonder if this actually hurts, or she's just goo at this point. This kinda contortionist skill would imply getting into very close range might be distinctly unpleasant - how inhuman a form can Linette take?
A newspaper forms in her other hand, while the other mock waves the sword around.

"Blah blah inevitable blah failures, blah blah nothing can change ever because blah blah blah Both sides are wrong, blah blah, and I'm so fucking smart."
… Pft. Okay, this is pretty funny. And also means - as Nearl notes - that she's met Mylnar enough to immediate him like that.
The mask comes off- just for a second. The face of Młynar Nearl snarls.

"I can be anything, but I am not a knight."
Combined with the other stuff we hear, I think Linette's being honest here. Sounds like she was involved with whatever disillusioned Mylnar so hard - it only makes sense the Office members with a lot of time on Terra would be involved in its backstory.
It is. You can see through the veil quite well. She wants to fight. She wants this fight, behind all the lies and misdirection, she sincerely wants to fight the Radiant Knight to the best of her ability.

"...she told me to do this. Sorry." says the sniper, spitting out a puff of smoke.
Okay, more context here. What's Linette's game? Is Nicole involved in whatever background scheme is afoot, or about to sabotage it? I suppose we'll just have to find out.
You're understanding it now. She wants to get in your head, rile you, annoy you, make you angry. Make you take risks, overcommit, make mistakes.

But she wants the opposite, too. She wants you to understand her style. Like she said- those are clues she's leaving for you.
We're getting an idea of what Linette wants out of all of this. I don't know if it includes winning, but it definitely isn't limited to it.
Natural resilience to fire on the part of the original user of that weapon- but no distinctive racial traits. The previous one reminded you very intensely of a Phidia, and her clothes could feasibly hide scales.

But this one's a mystery.
Y'know, I'm surprised this hasn't come up in the story more. I imagine baseline humans strike a weird uncanny valley effect for the people of Terra.
"You know, when I said I was financing the Reunion Movement, you didn't believe me, did you?"

You really didn't. You did not believe a single word she said. But here and now, you wonder if she was actually telling the truth. The truth, said in an absurd manner, as to seem a lie.

"I did not."

"Nobody ever does. If you lie enough, no one will believe you when you're finally telling the truth. Ever hear the story of the boy who cried wolf? That's my schtick, basically."

"...if no one ever believes you, your words will become meaningless."

"There's people who can sort the truth from lies. There's people I don't need to lie to at all."
Well, this is a gigantic clue if I've ever seen one. Makes me lean more towards the "she's not bluffing about endurance" interpretation.
The vision of the man in the cross is trembling. She's preparing to switch again- but there seems to be a delay. She can't switch immediately. If you catch her while she's changing forms, you might force her to fight by herself- and you'll get a better idea of her own skill level.

You leap forward.
Okay, this plan seemed to work pretty well. Linette's shapeshifting must have certain limits.
She's lying.

But about what?

To what extent?

What's her secret? No fighter is a perpetual motion machine. There has to be a secret to get her exhausted. What could it be?

You need to keep fighting- you can win this.
The question, the question, the question. To try to end the fight quickly, or drag it out and play for time?

Okay, I reread the sidestories about the Mirror Knight, and her ability to copy the abilities and appearance of her opponents is very well known. With that information in mind, I'd propose the Arts plan. Nearl hangs at medium range and hammers Linette with something she probably doesn't have an obvious answer to, and if she pulls the copy-cat trick, Nearl won't be surprised or taken off guard.

I don't see this strategy as a winning move, per se, but it'll lay the pressure on Linette and force her to unveil more cards without opening Nearl up for any obvious vulnerabilities or tricks. Information is the name of the game, here, and right now I think the best bet is the exhaust whatever energy Linette must be using for her transformations as well as laying on the pressure when she's in the middle of a transformation, although I'm leery of becoming predictable in that regard.

[X] Focus on your Arts.

How would you say we originally beat/killed her? In LoR I mean, she gotten better but I doubt the K-nano machine improved unless I'm missing something.

...is she trying to push Nearl to use more power so she can mimic her better? so that the mirror img will be more complete?

...is she trying to push Nearl to use more power so she can mimic her better? so that the mirror img will be more complete?
Well, she was disqualified from the tournament the last time she tried that, and it didn't even work in any case. But I suppose there might be some reason she'd want a complete and up-to-date copy of the Nearl family special.

Still, holding back on fighting in fear of being copied would be just as bad, so I'm inclined to accept it as a possible and act anyways.

I really like the thematic match-up here. Nearl hides nothing of herself, she's the sun after all, while Linette hides everything about herself and can only show people a mirror image.

Theme-wise, I'm tempted to go all out honestly. Let Nearl show her everything about herself, burn away the shadows Linette hides under.

The liar will always win in a game of deception, so let's not play her game at all.

[X] All or nothing.

Admittedly, this is pretty high-risk for questionable reward, but the themes make me think it's the right choice. Linette wants Nearl to play her game of deception and detectives, a game where she has the advantage by making Nearl doubt her own senses and instinct. Let's flip the table on her instead.

Hmm. Hmmmm. Linette hasn't pulled out her disarray and chaos strategies yet; She's doing something here. Wants Nearl to learn something, to observe something...or maybe plans on shaking things up in a completely different way than the usual.

Anyways, with that in mind...

[X] All or nothing.

If you wanna save it, you gotta work. You have to fight.

We either get the funny of Sieg losing 12 grand on Linette, or something completely unexpected happening, which is also fun. Give or take, pull or push, lie or truth- It doesn't matter, right now. What matters is the means. Hanging back, overthinking, trying to make a plan is useless when everything and anything has equal probability of being a falsified weakness. Due to what we know of Linette right now...if she wants to win, she's going to. But if given the opportunity to allow a better conclusion, she might go for it also. Really, making a 'certain' plan doesn't feel like the play here, as opposed to a plan that aligns with and showcases what Nearl can actually do.

And really, here, there's nothing she can do than give everything she has to this moment.

[X] All or nothing.

sorry mimic slime, sun horse gotta cook ya

the fact that linette hasn't stolen anything so far makes me not want to do the arts plan; if she's going to steal anything, it would be that. (though I think she'd be just as likely to give it right back, that's still disadvantageous for nearl.)

She's changed a lot, and old strategies probably won't work as well, but I always found it best to just go full aggro and take linette down as fast as possible in the mod; plus, running big attacks like Jin Ni to prevent total disarray from hitting people. As much as an endurance win is possible- I think that, even now, an aggressive approach is better. (besides, is there really anyone on nearl's level who would fight linette in a purely aggressive fashion? I'd say even the black knight wouldn't go as far.)

[X] All or nothing.

at the very least, I think this will be interesting.

This one assumes that Linette's weakness is a lack of ranged ability, which might make sense - she forms weapons from her own body, which means any projectiles would involve losing mass. But that doesn't mean she's not capable of mobility or otherwise making up for this issue somehow, so I'm not sure this is the ticket we're looking for.

I wouldn't count on that. Lasers and non-Projectile do exist in the City, and it was well known that the Mirror Knight beat the Chain Knight by copying his Arts.

How would you say we originally beat/killed her? In LoR I mean, she gotten better but I doubt the K-nano machine improved unless I'm missing something.

Been a while since I played Turb, my entire LoR save got nuked when my laptop broke and had to be reset, but I remember that Linette's copies were always weaker than normal except when clashing against the techniques original wielder.

So Mirror Knight turning into Degenbrecher might've turned the match in her favor, if she didn't get disqualified first.

I'm not confident with using Nearl Arts if Margaret and Mylnar's Arts count as too similar. If anything we should be focusing on what makes the Radiant Knight unique among her family, since we know the Mirrored Knight can't copy that without getting disqualified.

Linette is also, notably, not limited to shapeshifting herself. She has a Mass Attatck that scrambles the Decks of your units. This can leave your units stuck with Pages/Moves that they can't use. It shouldn't be a problem in a 1v1, but if she's gotten good enough to copy things off of memory...

[X] All or nothing.
As an Avid user of Limbus' "Boundary of Don" All or Nothing is my choice.

Oh! There's also the fact that Linette's Shapeshifting is based on K-Corp's Tears Singularity. See, the Tears in their purest state would try to turn humans into their 'original form,' though the Tears lack the power to go that far back and instead turn them into primordial goo, or something.

You need to introduce human concepts to the Tears in order to get it to heal you properly, which is also how derivative formulas like the Hephaestus Linette is using are made. This is pretty easy. If you stick a human in a room with speakers blaring the words 'you are an insect' at them and then inject them with the Tears, they'll turn into a bug. Unfortunately, this means the Tears are extremely vulnerable to even the subconscious thoughts of their users.

Class III K-Corp Personnel, who use the HP Ampules more than anyone, have to get put in suspended animation where they can't even dream, because otherwise their dreams and subconscious thoughts would risk destabilizing the Tears too much and killing them.

Linette's formula seems pretty stable, having not yet killed her in fifteen years of constant use at least. It's possible that her copied techniques are lesser than the original because the their falseness weakens or devalued them in Linette's subconscious thoughts, but other than that she seemed fine.

I wouldn't risk letting her get anywhere close to Distorting, though.

At this point she is basically just goo that can shapeshift, there is nothing left underneath. I don't think she can accidentally turn into something potentially deadly for her since she is an amorphous shapeshifting blob now.

A Knight of Kazimierz's Quest (Arknights)

A certain knight once wrote that they believed that the spirit of Knighthood should also encompass the endurance of failure. For Theresa Moreau, failure is pretty much the name of the game, so she sure hopes that's true. Being a knight in Kazimierz is hard, and trying to grasp for fame and the...

You really should follow this one. There's considerably less Arknights quests going on recently then PM quests, so if you got the itch for more Kazimierz...
