[X] Determination. A set of weights, soaked with dedication, building the strength of its users.

I just finished undertale pacifism ending and it filled me with determination.

Being a good cop in a shitty city…

It's like those old noir moves I love to watch!

[X] Sorrow. A rotting fairground, once full of life, now a memorial of happier times.

I think restoring an amusement park to its former glory would be a nice contrast to the rest of the Cyberpunk universe.

[X] Frustration. A malfunctioning ad, a man fixing what neglect had wrought.

I love the idea of spreading the faith through cheezy adverts and commercialism.

It seems the villain arc will have to be another day... but if were dedicated to saving people I say we go full ham on the ham!

Votes will close in a few hours! If anyone still wants to vote, now's the time!
Also, Side note: As the quest progresses, I can't promise to be 100% accurate with my CP2077 lore, my memory has more holes than swiss cheese and I forget things easily ;w;

The nomads would likely be prime targets to start a cult, 6th street could also be interesting to use/play around with given they are kinda idealistic and the cops would be the bread and butter of justice.

You missed two votes for justice because they just had the word justice in them.

Det. Tanner Montoya
Night City, Northside

'It is a bad time to be a cop in Night City', his civvie chooms used to say, and granted they weren't wrong, even now. NCPD has been going down the shitter for years yet there were idealistic idiots like himself who still thought the city had something worth dying for. It still did, he thought. Even if it was getting harder to believe.

========================================================================

"Go! Go!" Tanner Montoya, NCPD Detective, ran as he yelled at his charge, a dirty young boy covered with bruises from his kidnapping, his wrists still bound together with tape. The boy's feet carried him down the hallway as fast as he could go as his savior bought him time. The detective twisted and fired his gun at their pursuers.

"Don't look back, Lucas!" Two gunshots rang out, Lucas jumped and flinched with each loud bang that lit up the hallway.

"Don't let them get away!" They were starting to catch up and their voices made Lucas turn pale, he didn't want to go back! He won't go back! He won't! He tried to run faster but the ground was covered in trash and broken glass and he only had one shoe on.

========================================================================

"Another missing kid?" Detective Montoya stared at the picture of Lucas Barnaby, age 9, last seen leaving school to hang out at a friend's place. He never made it.

"Yeah, third one this month, also near suspected Scav territory."

"Shit." A moment of silence, "He's probably-"

"Don't. Finish. That. Sentence."

========================================================================

"Just leave the boy, pig!" A heavily accented male voice called out, "We promise to give you a cut if you let us have him!" The offer was met with a bullet between the eyes, a body falling to the ground with its brains splattered behind it.

"Over my dead body, you Scav fucks!" Rage licked at Tanner's psyche, the offer offending him to his very core, an utterly violating feeling that had his body moving before he could even think of what he was doing. "You damn butchers won't lay a hand on him!"

========================================================================

"Jesus, Montoya, did you get any sleep?" The Asian woman in uniform gave him a look of concern, glancing down to the case files that he just slammed down on her desk before pulling it open, and gesturing for the detective to take a seat, the poor guy looked like he was about to fall over. "What do you have for me?"

"Found Scav graffiti near where the victim was taken," He said, almost collapsing into the chair. "Was well hidden behind some dumpsters, had to sort through the trash to see it right."

"Montoya," The woman gave him a look, one of exasperation but also of pity, it was not an easy case. Scavs were the ultimate scum that didn't care who they took, especially whether or not their victims were too old or too young, nearly a day had passed since the boy was taken and chances are, he was most likely dead by now. "There are Scav graffiti everywhere, it's going to take a lot more than that to-"

"I know," The man interrupted, "but I managed to get some of the locals to cooperate, I think their hideout-"

"You think? Montoya, we don't have the men or resources to investigate a hunch!"

========================================================================

"Hunch my ass…" Tanner growled, loading his last magazine into his Lexington, the boy cowering next to him, covering his ears as they hid in one of the empty offices, "I knew they were here, fucking Scavs, can't fucking believe we never thought to look at a fucking Slaughterhouse-" He paused in his ranting to peek out from behind the desk he had turned over to fire at the Scav that just came running up, a few shots managing to nick her in the side and through her shoulder but not enough to take them down.

"Agh! Сука полиция!! The bastard is here!" She called out to her fellow Scavs, ducking behind the thick wall as she started to bleed, the bloody surgeon looks that she had going on masked her wounds save for the exposed and bleeding puncture wound in her shoulder.

"Yeah, that's right! Call your little friends, I already called mine!" His taunt was met with a hail of gunfire, bits of metal pinging off the heavy metal surface and into the walls that served as cover.

Speaking of friends, where the hell was his backup!?

========================================================================

"This is Detective Montoya, I found the Barnaby boy, I repeat, I found Lucas Barnaby." Tanner's hands were undoing the bindings on Lucas that kept him tied to the toilet in the bathroom they were keeping him in. The poor boy was a mess, covered in filth from the dirty floor and there were bruises all over his arms and neck, it looked like the Scavs were not gentle when they kidnapped him.

"Don't worry kid, I'm going to get you out of here." He did his best to reassure him, keeping his voice soft and gentle to not scare the kid and to keep from alerting any Scavs that were around.

Anything the boy had to say was quickly muffled when Montoya's comms were filled with the outraged voice of his superior. "What the fu- Montoya! I fucking told- Where!?"

"Sending deets now, hurry. I think the Scavs caught on to me. Attempting to extract the hostage."

"Goddamnit. Sending back up, but we are going to have a talk about this, Montoya!"

========================================================================

"NCPD! FREEZE!" Uniformed officers kicked open doors and came charging in as Tanner's backup had finally arrived, blue and red lights wildly flashing outside the windows. Most of the Scavengers had delta'd once NCPD started showing up, even though they had better guns than they did, they simply didn't have enough manpower to take on the men and women in blue.

"Дерьмо…" A Scav, dressed up like a butcher, hissed as some of their numbers were gunned down, the slaughterhouse filling up with yelling and gunfire as gang members were either trying to flee or attempted to fight back, clearly torn whether to cut their losses and make a break for it, or take out the cop that just ruined their entire operation.

The yelling reached a crescendo and within moments, a loud explosion rocked the building, snapping the Scav into making a decision and barreled into the office, gun in hand, and started to fire away, emptying his entire magazine in an attempt to take out the detective. "Чертова полиция! You ruined everything!"

Then his chest exploded, showering everything in front of him in a blast of gore. The Scav gasped, and stumbled forwards, his gun slipping from his grip as he stared at the gaping hole in his chest with wide-eyed horror. His eyes slowly roll up into his head and he falls to his knees, dead before he even hit the floor.

Standing in the gap in the door war was a very angry Asian woman in a cheap ballistic vest, a smoking gun in her hands, she glared at the dead Scav and emptied a couple more rounds into his body for good measure.

"Fucking Scavs." She spat before her glare turned to the Detective who was sheepishly coming out from behind the desk.

"Captain Wei." He greeted her with a nod, "Thanks for the assi-"

She interrupted him with a finger, pointing it straight at his face and nearly poking him in the nose as she stormed up to him with a fury of a superior dealing with an insubordinate underling. "Don't. Say a word." She spoke slowly, a testament to her rage yet Tanner could see a small speck of respect and pride twinkling in her eyes before she closed them to take in a deep breath to calm herself.

"Detective Montoya. I expect a full report on my desk about all this." She spun a finger in the air, gesturing to the whole fiasco that he just caused. "And you better not leave out a single detail. Are we clear?"
"Crystal. Ma'am." Tanner swallowed the lump in his throat, knowing full well than to push her buttons when she was in such a mood.

She glared at him for a moment longer before her gaze catches the form of Lucas Barnaby, who looked just as intimidated as the detective, staring at her with eyes slightly wide, his posture stiff as a board and just like that, she gave him the gentlest smile that Tanner had never seen on such a hardened woman. "Lucas? Lucas Barnaby? I'm Captain Wei with the NCPD, we're here to take you home." She offered her hand to the boy who stared at her for a moment, unsure whether or not to trust this fiery woman who just put a hole in someone's chest not 5 minutes ago.

Tanner caught Lucas' gaze and gave him a reassuring nod, which he returned and slowly, timidly, reached out to take it. "T-thank you." He quietly said, eyes glued to the floor and both officers let out a quiet sigh and smile of relief and pain. They rescued the missing boy but the ordeal was going to leave it's mark on him, Lucas Barnaby is going home safe and sound, but he'll never be the same again.

Turning, she carefully led Lucas out of the room, speaking to him gently as they stepped over and on bodies on their way out and just as Lucas turned to give Tanner one final look, his eyes widened with fear and the detective felt a chill go up his spine, he turned around and sees that one of the Scavs getting up from the floor, apparently playing dead, a gun in hand and aiming for Wei's head.

"Captain!" Tanner cried out, his hand reaching for his gun as he stepped into the Scav's line of fire, they aimed at each other and both pulled their triggers and with a loud bang, Tanner felt something hit him in the chest, sending him sprawling back.

"TANNER!" Another bang of gunfire and the Scav's head exploded.

Everything went white, it was hard to breathe. He felt something cradle the back of his head and heard muffled but panicked screams, an attempt to soothe him as he could feel himself bleeding.

Tanner Montoya wanted to say he was fine, he just needed a minute. Why is it so hard to move? With gasping breaths, he tried to speak, to see, but he couldn't see anything; All he saw was white, yet… he felt as if someone was standing right in front of him.

"Who are you?" He wanted to ask and two words rang like church bells in his head.

I

AM.

How do you help Detective Montoya?
[ ] Grant him a bit of yourself, just enough to keep him alive, it's what he deserves. (Det. Montoya lives and will be forever marked by you)
[ ] You don't. Let nature take its course, it's not your place to say who lives and dies. (Det. Montoya Dies)

Edit: noticed a teeny weeny little mistake. You all saw nothing.
