[X] [Socialist Party] The Socialist Party Program for the 22nd Freedmen's Republic Congress
-[X] Plank 1: Further expand water provision and treatment systems, transferring their day-to-day administration to the municipal and rural councils whose territories they serve and from which they draw, but maintaining a regular National Water Inspectorate with sufficient funding to ensure that systems are adequately maintained and, as they age, upgraded to modern standards.
-[X] Plank 2: Form a National Health Administration, with authority to set production quotas and prices for the new glut of drugs and medical devices so that they may be available to the people, not just foreign buyers willing to pay a premium. Give the NHA authority, in concert with the municipal councils, to purchase existing clinics, hospitals, and cemeteries for free use by the people, and land to build more of the same.

Attitudes in the Freedmen's Republic had grown increasingly belligerent. What few elements that remained of the old order had been marginalized and left as subjects of ridicule, and younger generations had grown up knowing nothing but freedom and victory. While the topic of whether to go to war remained divisive, what the war should be was nigh-universal. Every eye was fixed southo f the border, where insurrections much like the blood revolts of old America continued.
The Socialist Party suffered delays in promulgating their program due to another bout of unfortunate sickness at the convention. Wags made much of the fact that this wasn't the first time this happened, but few took it seriously.

The International Revolutionary Party was hungry for conflict, advocating for the transition to a war footing and near-immediate assault against the reactionary Mexican Republic. And for the expansion of the navy until it grew strong enough to challenge the British Empire.

The Socialist Worker's Party shifted their focus to the struggle abroad, calling for full support to the Zulu and the many other African kingdoms fighting against European colonialism. Significant portionso f the base revolted over this, especially given the frustration many women joining the Navy experienced and the ongoing difficulties with reforming the justice system, but ultimately party discipline held.
-Send military supplies to the Zulu in Africa to blunt British imperialism.
-Fund an underground railroad for draft dodgers in Europe, using this infrastructure to smuggle our agents into Europe so they can organize and agitate among the working classes.
-Mechanize the army with standard trucks for transporting troops, cargo, and crew served weapons, and install diesel engines on our reconnaissance dirigibles!
-Send more supplies to support the Natives in the Amazon, including trainers to teach asymmetrical warfare!
-Tell Argentina to pound sand.
-Non-legislative plank 1: Create a PR campaign to champion women's liberation and educate people about the benefits of equality between the sexes
-Non-legislative plank 2: It's come to our attention that there's quite a few homosexuals in the military! We'll punch anyone who disrespects our troops on these grounds!

The Freedmen's Party surged into prominence with a platform staunchly opposing war at home and abroad, seeking to use every method short of violence to secure liberty for people. Championed by their sister party in Haiti, the prospect of alleviating that debt proved intoxicating for many, while their anti-corruption platform and proposals for labor-saving proved popular among more. They could be potent challenger to the established victors in the coming election...
- Plank 1: Absolutely NO to War. Any war.
-Plank 2: Run on a platform of anti-corruption using our previous success at defeating our own corrupt machine politics as an example.
-Plank 3: Gain diplomatic recognition from all countries in the world to better access their markets for our goods. Take advantage of French distraction and seek to renegotiate the deal between France and Haiti.
-Plank 4: Amass a fleet for our merchant marine to better ship our trade goods once we have gained diplomatic recognition. A blanket ban on trading weapons and resources used to make weapons to all participants of the war in Europe. Informally apply the same to Britain and places like Mexico and Brazil where their governments are weakening.
-Plank 5: Invest in labor saving devices with a focus on agriculture to allow for more free time for workers and to further lower the price of food in the republic as well as other members of the DMA and Haiti.
-Non-legislative plank 1: In this time of economic uncertainty the party is to conduct mutual aid with a priority to the less well-off members of the country and the most progressive members of the party are to form local self defense clubs to protect the most vulnerable members of society during this time where they are particularly vulnerable being attacked as a form of scapegoating. Urge all sister parties to adopt similar measures to ride out this period of hardship.
-Non-legislative plank 2: Aid in the consolidation of all peace movements in the Franco-Prussian War including those found in Britain opposing its war profiteering with an eye to put worker parties in charge of the peace movement and to work to begin coordinated mass strikes to hinder the states at war and work to end it.
-Coalitions: Any party to get our planks passed except for cases where it would lead to another war.

The Radical Republicans, still weak, began to slowly shift their tactics as new blood, many the sons and grandsons of emigres returning to the land of their "ancestry" and finding themselves adrift, turned to new tactics, attempting to synthesize "the best of all beliefs" and "just do what works best for the common good of all."
-Plank 1: Token compensation for the businessmen who had their property taken away (forget about reversing expropriations after so many years) and a stop to the constant demonisation of private business in order to promote other legitimate options.
-Plank 2: Somewhat cordial or at least neutral relations with other nations, when possible; better the friendly face of someone they can do business with, that the fear of us murdering them in their sleep.
-Plank 3: Establish sensible immigration quotas, keep them high enough; make sure the new arrivals become productive members and tax payers as soon as possible.
-Plank 4: Provide more funding to law enforcement to keep order, especially in Texas; with proper accountability.
-Plank 5: Designate some coastal cities as Free Economic Cities, where businesses can operate under less bureaucratic red-tape to bring in more trade and investment.
-Non-legislative plank 1: Seeing how some of our members may actually be agents of our Intelligence services... Support (discreetly) their efforts at dealing with truly dangerous enemies, such as foreign spies, assassins and saboteurs.
-Non-legislative plank 2: Focus our propaganda on the need of a strong defensive military, in order to deter foreign aggression. Let's keep our house in order, instead of invading someone else's. The Republic shall become a fortress!
-Coalitions: Anyone who will support our planks.
I want to have a substantial materiel advantage over the Royal Navy before going to war with them. This is the era when the British Empire was at its peak, and we have not built up sufficiently to handle that.
EDIT: Just realized I misread part of the IRP vote, mea culpa. CARRY ON, COMRADES!

Well, yeah, I'm exaggerating for effect. However a sizable enough technological edge goes a long way to even the odds even when they outnumber us. A general superiority in weight of metal is irrelevant if it can never translate into tactical superiority due to our ships being too fast to catch. We just need to actually build said ships.
