Son of Death (30k Mortarion Quest)

I'm considering switching from Unbroken Few to Dauntless Host on the basis that I think Mortarion might be pleasantly surprised as to how many come with him. Ugh. It's such a difficult choice to make.

Edit: I did it. I'm not against the Seven but I think I'd prefer the Host. Either way, it's gonna be fun.

[X]Let the Past Bear Fruit: No ceremonies, no. No grand speeches. But before each warrior leaves, they plant a tree as a memory, and take a seed of the same to bring with them. Lest they forget their past.

Well, hopefully this act makes us the terraforming legion.

[X] A Grim Reprise. Mortarion shall hold his own funeral, and that of all who follow him. Barbarus shall mourn the deaths of those who go to the stars, but they shall also be proud, for it will be a worthy end indeed.

Gotta have your seven sevens for Grandfather, and why not an Irish Wake?

Ok, I think this has enough traction now. Morty is going to say "everyone has to plant a tree", expecting a handful and gets surprised by how many show up to start a new forest.

I foresee comment from a certain other Primarch Daddy.

[X] The Unbroken Few. The seven comrades who stood with him against Necare, last survivors of a brotherhood chosen for their lack of remaining ties as much as their quality.

You know I was going to vote for something else but I've never seen such a persuasive statement.

Well, as I understand, if we pick few then they'll became important characters to the story. And if we pick many then they will fade into obscurity. Also Guys guys! That's the easy way to make his closest comrades into space marines. Nurgle wouldn't let them die and ruin his precious numerology, so only for those 7 will be 100% acceptance to geneseed.

Also, to those people who wanted for Emperor to express his humility I'm honored to say those words - Ha ha!
Shrug

Going to be honest, camaraderie would have had a similar outcome. Lone farmer who some people still look at in fear trying to test the companionship of the golden man? Same outcome really, so there's no reason for you to be smug.

Yeah, Mortarion honestly needs to have solid comrades.
He's still going to get those comrades, both choices let us take the 7 with us. We're just deciding whether or not to make it an open or closed invitation, and even then it's not for anyone, just those that were also part of the Death Guard. Not all of them followed us up to fight our Lich Dad.
I really like this because the Emperor... He's not being cruel. He's trying to be kind even. Reaching out a hand and building bridges based on shared values/work.

But he's not really thinking of what it means that he can just descend from on high like a god and do in days what takes you a lifetime. Or he is, but only from the perspective of a god where such gifts are proofs of power and glory and deserving of praise.

Because he could have offered Mortion a place there. Said "this is something good and worthwhile and if you truly wish this to be your life work then I could offer you the chance to do it for the whole galaxy. You could be a part of something greater". And that never even occurs to him
Space Dad did say that he wasn't humble, and prior characterization does point to him not being considerate towards the pride of his kids.

So would Resilience.

I think most voters realized Emps was going to pass any test Mortarion gave, but I don't recall anyone turning that around to say that Mortarion would fail whatever standard he set by his own lights. Not sure knowing that would have changed my vote, but it does make me happier with the Humility pick.

And yet… how dare he not? Would you truly be happy, if he had the means to help and did not offer it, if he condescended to allow you to fumble your way to progress for the sake of your fragile ego? Would you truly reject such a gift out of spite and self-centred pride, leave children to gasp for breath and their parents to die with bloody lungs because it is better than admitting you are not unique? Are you truly so weak?
Oooh. So it wasn't just the Emperor's humility that was tested, it was Mortarion's too. And he found himself wanting.

I love it.

The best part about planting trees is that many of them last about as long as an astartes (barring violent death).

For one he would see servitors. For two if you dig deeper into Custodes, the so called companions of Emperor, you will see that they literally can't think about whatever Emperor's doing as bad and will follow any order like servitors and afterwards Morti would meet his sons with their slavish devotion to a father they never know. Maybe he will see For that what they truly are - slaves, not comrades of Emperor. Maybe he would see the Empire of marionettes or maybe he wouldn't. That would be awesome to see as first test, Not after Mortarion has agreed to join his dad.

Wow the Emperor comes across as a dick. Be interesting to see his POV at some point
