Fuck it, I'm going to Disneyland!

I mean for real, we've done museums before and you can import clothes if you really want them. But you can't bring Disneyland to you.

[X] Hong Kong Disneyland. What better way to get your mind off of the dark trauma lurking in your mind than visiting the Happiest Place on Earth?

Bring little sister to Disneyland and let the enthusiasm of an excitable kid bleed over into the mood of the squad.

"Big Sister Three…" The short Cyber Newtype mouths quietly with stars in her eyes.
Lol. Yes Sicilia, you can have all the Big Sisters you want, even Mort.
"Ensign, Ms. Vogel, Sicilia," She finally sighs tiredly, "I'd like to talk with each of you privately, later. We'll table the issue of your conduct for now though, and I'll tell you what happened while you were gone."
I feel like you don't have a position to complain about your isolated pilots being attacked by the cult like remnants of defunct space Nazi principality and being forced to seize the ship by force. Well maybe you do, but not at the pilots. Frankly, if an army of 3 Minors and 2 Mobile Suits could do that to them, they weren't going to come out the other end of this battle alive in the first place.
You have to accept that as enough?
No, that isn't enough.
It will never be enough.

"If that's beyond my sphere of influence…" your whispers fill the empty hallway, "Then I better start making it bigger, huh?"
Wow. We really need to repaint the woundwort a nice, trustworthy racecar red, don't we?
space is where you belong
Damn straight.
You get it, but you don't like it. You don't like this at all.
Yeah. I'm with Cybele here. This was a lot of bullshit to go through for just a absolute defense zone. Like, such a pain. I'd rather have saved Rita or stopped Dogatie.

Essentially armed the eco terrorists but took away their ideological sacrificial goat so their cause isn't neccessarily going anywhere, cybele committed war crimes and doesn't even feel like she really won anything and took a major blow to what optimism and faith in mankind she has left. This Mission is an absolute bust.

The MacDaniels thing is nothing, probably just a cover for the Illuminati. Let's go ride roller coasters instead!

I think MacDaniels is plotting to make tiny Char clones to influence young pilots to commit war crimes they would otherwise never even consider. Cybele is simply both the first person effected and the first to notice the secret evil ways. Her Amuro Merch is the only reason she's able to break their hold on her mind.

Alright for fun some comments on the update.
[X] Return to the Bellerophon and reconvene with your allies.

Given how long you've been away from the ship, you should really check in with the Captain. You need to bring her up to speed on what you've been doing.

"Lorelei, Sicilia, let's go talk with the others." You motion for them to follow, "We've got a lot to chat about."

Leaving the Xi unattended like this feels risky, but there are tons of Mafty fighters around. Who could steal such a large Mobile Suit in these conditions? So the three of you make your way over to the Bellerophon, where some of the shipboard marines are holding a loose perimeter. They wave you through towards the open hangar doors.
Heh a joke about gundam jacking that plagues the genre.
"Sicilia!" Eris shouts from near the entrance, running over to you, "Cybele! You're alright! Oh, and Lorelei too!"

"Aww, I'm not an afterthought, am I?" The newest addition to your team pouts, to which Eris just claps her on the shoulder.

"Naw, girl, just getting used to there being a new face on the team. I mean, we've been a trio for so long…"

You point to Sicilia, "We stopped being a trio a while ago."
Honestly I'm dreading how terrible a time Lorelei had under the Federation. Because she was complaining about adults telling her what to do, and bringing an abundance of grenades to use against Federation soldiers in a rather uh gleeful manner.

Probably best for her to visit Doctor Bidan as at a minimum being an extremely sensitive Newtype in what was at best an internment camp isn't good for the mental health of a teenager. Huh I wonder if she intentionally managed to be at the right place at the right time just to get out of there through a gundam, and the Federation just went along with as it server their goals.
Eris shrugs, "Sure, but I mean, Sicilia fits in so well! She's like the little sister we all never had."

"Big Sister Three…" The short Cyber Newtype mouths quietly with stars in her eyes.

"Anyways, Captain wants to see you." Eris motions towards the rear of the hangar, past the rest of Cascadia Team's Mobile Suits, "A lot happened while you were gone."

As you walk past your teammate's MS, you notice that Mort's is in the process of a strip-down for refitting, and Eris has lost a wing binder. Jeez, what happened while you were gone?
Hm. Cybele should probably look into how to deal with an opponent willing to die to take her down. Since Luke is willing to do so, and Sicilia is willing to take a bullet for big sis.

Also this is adorable.
"Glad to see you're okay, Ensign." Captain Nouri gives you a nod as she sits down opposite of the three of you, "And good work on securing the Xi. Our allies over at Mafty are pulling data off of it right now, and looks like you made the right call on which shipment to secure. But we'll get to that later. Why don't you start by telling me what happened after we lost contact?"

You straighten up, "Well, Captain, after I rescued Ms. Vogel, we fell behind and out of communications range. We continued travelling towards the mission area, expecting to arrive late. En route, we encountered a Gaw on the same heading. It was being operated by Principality of Zeon remnants."

"…Principality?" The Captain repeats with an amused smirk.

"Yes, Principality," You confirm with a shrug, "A lot looked like new recruits though. The guy in charge was definitely a veteran though. Anyways, they initiated hostilities, so we boarded their vessel and seized control."

Her amusement vanishes, replaced with sheer disbelief, "Let me get this straight. The three of you commandeered a whole Gaw? How did you subdue the crew?"

"We, uh…" You bite your lip. Oh dear, there's no good answer for this, "We… didn't."

Sicilia helpfully elaborates, "Yeah, a whole ton of them got sucked out of the hangar! They all fell while spinning, it looked really funny!"

"In addition, none of them had proper combat training." Lorelei adds, "The Federation put me through boot camp, at least. Most of those young men had never held a gun before. It was easy enough to kill them with small arms fire."

The silence is almost deafening.

"Oh, but they were definitely indoctrinated into some kind of cult by the leader," She smiles cheerfully, "So any and all violence was justified."

Captain Nouri massages her forehead for a minute.

"…Alright. Let's say you did take over a Gaw after murdering everyone on board. What did you do next?"

Moving on! Good, you really don't want to think about what happened on the Gaw.

"Okay, so after we took out their commanding officer-" You begin.

Sicilia raises her hand, "We ejected him out the airlock!"

"….as I was saying, after we took him out, we rode the Gaw the rest of the way in, then once we were on scene we began to assist the Mafty forces. We boarded the Garuda, but the ongoing fighting damaged the transport's engines. We had to dump weight to stay airborne, so I took the Xi out. From there, we accompanied the Mafty forces here… and that's that, Captain."

There's a war of emotions going on the Captain's face, looking like a mix of relief, disappointment, and exasperation.
Alright so relief that a bunch of unattended soldiers/kids with mecha didn't get up to anything truly against the high standards of Londo Bell, disappointment that Cybele didn't reign in her subordinates when she probably should've done so, and exasperation from their attitudes feeding into each-other such that it will cause problems in the future if it isn't addressed.

For example Lorelei was quite clearly taught by the Federation that once the other side shoots first they're fair targets for extermination, and Bright expects more from his people. This is compounded by the fact that unlike her superior she was aware that a prisoner under Londo Bell care would in fact almost certainly die if they threw him out the airlock without supplies, and simply didn't care.
"Ensign, Ms. Vogel, Sicilia," She finally sighs tiredly, "I'd like to talk with each of you privately, later. We'll table the issue of your conduct for now though, and I'll tell you what happened while you were gone."
Alright first up let's just say it is a very good thing they didn't just outright kill the prisoner as that would've had a very different tone for this conversation, and be less about preventative work to insure a trio of kids with a trend for getting into trouble don't do something they, and/or Londo Bell will regret.

For Sicilia that conversation will involve a whole lot of sweets, a manual on appropriate conduct, and a whole lot of the time on the part of Sarina explaining things to a child. Given the Cybernewtype conditioning things will be required to put in terms of Big Sister having a whole lot of plates to juggle, and she can use someone to remind her of things to avoid getting into trouble.

For Lorelei it'll likely involve a discussion over Londo Bell having higher standards than the Federation, and if she wants to work for them there are standards to be upheld. Also a referral to Doctor Bidan to check for mental problems, and you know look into whether, or not the Federation took a page from Neo Zeon in regards to using conditioning on their Newtypes, which would certainly explain some things.

For Cybele it'll likely come down to a discussion on leadership, and the importance of making sure to think of the consequences for the actions you take in advance. Because there were three examples just on this mission of the latter, and while two of them were minor from a pragmatic pov forgetting to announce Londo Bell was flying in a OYW transport almost got Hathaway killed, which was a primary objective for the whole operation.
She sits back, folding her hands on the table, "After you dropped out of communications range, the Republic ship, the Broadway, closed distance and began engaging us in a gunnery battle. We both deployed Mobile Suits in an attempt to disable the other, and although we didn't suffer any casualties, we both sustained damage that forced us to lower our speed. You must have overtaken us during this time. As you saw, we got here around the same time as you did. Most likely because the Garuda was forced to reduce speed as well."

… Huh. So the Zeon Republic tried to take Londo Bell out of the picture (in terms of this operation) and inadvertently ruined their own chances too…
Huh is the benefit for the Principality Mission things like this won't happen?
Christina stares intently at the Penelope's schematics, "So what you're saying is that we've merely maintained the status quo?"

"Not quite." She shakes her head, "Anaheim has made it abundantly clear that they will not supply parts or components for either of these Mobile Suits unless the part in question is standardized. All the spare parts and equipment we have on hand are all the parts we will ever have. There are only a finite number of times we can repair the Xi, but the same holds true for the Penelope."

So… the logistics for both of these suits will run out one day, despite them being powerful enough to curbstomp any MS that came before them. But that means…

"The Feds aren't going to want to throw the Penelope at the Xi anytime soon…" You voice your line of thought, "Which means… Captain, is Mafty going to create a zone of absolute defense with the Xi?"

Captain Nouri smiles at you, "Excellent, Ensign. Yes, they intend to create a zone of control around Southeast Asia. Demonstrating the Xi's power a few times should be enough to get the Feds in the area to pull back."
Alright this is a rather interesting approach for Anaheim to make money, and when paired with some early events implies a whole lot of things about the internal situation within the corporation that implies things nobody has really picked up on. Because contracts to maintain, and supply parts for things like airplanes are real long-term money makers for weapon procurement, which are most importantly reliable before even considering that this is a "name your price" situation.
This is a solid plan, but… it'll just intensify the ground war. More people are going to die. You feel partly responsible, but if you had done nothing, then the Feds would have likely had free reign. This is the objectively good outcome… right?

"So, we're just leaving the Xi with Mafty?" You ask, "Can we trust them? What are they even fighting for, aside from a general stance of 'Fuck the Feds'?"

"As per our agreement, Mafty gets the Xi, we get a copy of all its data, and they support any future ground action we engage in." The Captain answers, "I understand your concerns, Cybele, but the fact of the matter is that Londo Bell has no presence on the Earth itself. Mafty Navue Erin was the organization most willing to work with us on this operation."

You get it, but you don't like it. You don't like this at all.
Also having a region where Londo Bell can safely operate on Earth is a pretty strong win given they have zero presence there, and while Mafty have contradictory long-term goals... the capacity for things like recovery missions would be rather important.

Furthermore it forces the Federation to allocate resources building MS designed to fight on the ground, and that lowers pressure off Londo Bell for very little resource cost. Since unlike the OYW the Federation simply can't just ignore the isolated enemy forces on the ground, and focus on taking the fight to space.

So in theory, you should be safe once there.

Provided no one else takes issue with you en route…

"Captain," You interject, "The crew of the Broadway… we fought them, right? Are we really just back to being friends after all this?"

She nods, although you notice it's a bit stiff, "I spoke with Captain Montagne. We understand that we have bigger fish to fry. It's water under the bridge."
Anyone willing to make a bet that the Federation isn't going to use Hong Kong as a route for demonstrating the power of the Penelope?

Because it gives them a shot at taking out an assault carrier that has been causing them trouble, and you know at least temporarily taking out the obvious route for anti Federation forces to get back to space.
After the briefing, as you and Christina leave to bring your teams up to speed, you can't help but feel that something is off.

"I don't like this…" You admit to her in the quiet corridors, "Most of us Anti-Fed folks were getting along just fine, then all of a sudden Anaheim tosses this juicy piece of meat into the pond and we all tear each other to bits over it."

She nods, and you remember something…
Oh something is off, and it boils down to Anaheim having a little self created problem of a whole bunch of divisions supporting various factions that are opposed to each other, which had led to a situation where those divisions have in all likelihood gotten worryingly loyal to those they support over the company from the pov of upper management.

So if Anaheim actually included support into the deal for whomever got the gundams they'd be in a situation where several of their division are faced with the prospect of their side being with 100% doomed unless they say leak the data alongside produce a gundam, or whole lot of things that can seriously risk the monopoly Anaheim has on mobile suit development.
You have to accept that as enough?
No, that isn't enough.
It will never be enough.

"If that's beyond my sphere of influence…" your whispers fill the empty hallway, "Then I better start making it bigger, huh?"
Ah, well with ambition like that I can certainly see why Sayle was worried about Cybele becoming another Char if she were to say more people close to her.
She smiles, but it's not a happy or a sad one. It's just… weird, and the feeling you get from her is strange too, but not in a way that you can pin down.

"Don't worry about it. This isn't something that you can fix in a day." She says, patting you on the head, "You'll know when you get the chance to help her."

You wonder what she means by that?
Newtype things like understanding others without words, and things similar to that. Also I get the feeling one of the reasons Lorelei is crazy happy is it being a coping mechanism for avoiding a whole lot of trauma as the Federation probably wasn't big on mental health for their Newtypes.

Alternatively the Federation used mental conditioning to turn them into more pliable weapons.
"…Disneyland." Sicilia tugs at your shirt, "I wanna go to Disneyland, Big Sis!"

Disneyland does sound nice. But… something has been nagging at you. You saw Mobile Suits and a Gunperry during the fight with the MacDaniels logo. You probably should just dismiss that as a PMC taking the piss, but… what if it really was MacDaniels? You must know.
I mean why can't MacDaniels simply just be in it for supporting the Revolution?

Like it doesn't even need to be idealism as all it takes is someone sufficiently high up to have an axe to grind from knowing someone the Federation screwed over with their policies to fudge the numbers on the quarterly report to have funding directed at product marketing, and just buy a mecha to slap some advertisement for the brand on it.

Since even if whomever did it is caught by management the Federation being under martial law makes it unlikely anyone would come forward to admit they've funded what the Federation views to be a bunch of terrorists. Thus will MacDaniels support the Revolution as nobody wants to end up in prison due to something they had no part in beyond working for the same company.

I was going to say why not have a ride based on the journey of the RX-78 during the OYW, but realized Anaheim probably copyrighted that like mad.

So I suppose what Disney has depends on how much of a fires ale there was for the merchandising rights for all the wacky things Zeon came up with in the OYW. :V

Also while rereading through the quest I realized that Crux Dogatie is probably going for a colony drop as that is by far the most efficient WMD when space on an unscheduled trip is at a premium, and well there is a rather convenient colony that nobody is paying close enough attention to notice someone strapping an engine onto it to notice an attempt to yeet it.

That is to say he is using his primary ship as a distraction for a second team whose task is to drop Island Cascadia on something, and exfiltrate whatever useful things they looted from a dead colony to bring back to the Jupiter Fleet.
  • Island Cascadia
    • One of the colonies located at Side 5 "Loum". Cascadia managed to avoid major damage during the One Year War, but their economy went into recession shortly afterwards. The Colony was used as a Titans base for a number of years, before the Titans were abolished. Neo Zeon took up residence in the abandoned facilities, before they too left after the First Neo Zeon War ended. Since then, the colony remained mostly unmolested by any of the military powers in the Earth Sphere, however the state of the colony itself was poor.
    • In U.C. 0098 the Federation attacked Island Cascadia under the pretense of searching for a dangerous fugitive Newtype. What followed was the systematic slaughter of the populace through wholesale destruction of the colony itself. All survivors were evacuated aboard the Londo Bell ship Bellerophon.
    • Two days after the colony was abandoned, the Colony Corporation conducted a survey of the damage. While the colony itself is no longer habitable, the overall structure and major systems are intact and can be repaired in the future. However the Agricultural Blocks are missing, and require replacement. No further action by the Colony Corporation is planned.
Like I doubt this was the original plan, but given how much of a symbol of terror a colony drop is to the populous, and will galvanize them to put their backs behind oppressing spacenoids instead of simply swallowing, or at least not objecting to the party line fed to them by the Federation.
Crux Dogatie smiles, an unnerving expression indeed, "I wonder if you could even understand what we want… perhaps those from Zeon could, but neither you Earthnoids, nor Londo Bell could possibly comprehend what we seek."

"Um," Lorelei raises her hand like a shy schoolgirl, "Mr. Dogatie? I was born on the Moon, actually."

"And I'm from Island Cascadia," You add, "We're not all cut from the same cloth here."

"Are you now?" He looks to you, amused. With a patronizing tone, he asks, "Then tell me, child, as someone born in the Colonies, what do you have that the people of Earth lack?"

You really don't like this guy, but maybe if you give him the right answer, he'll tell you all what you want to know? Because you're getting the feeling that he just came here to laugh at you, and he's about to send you all on your way with nothing to show for it. If that happens, someone is going to start shooting (It's the Feds, of course the Feds will start shooting).
This would explain his amusement about the presence of someone who was a resident of Island Cascadia, and why he bothered to take the time to wax philosophy instead of sending both sides on their way after giving them his message.
"So…. That Crux Dogatie guy," you finally speak after a full minute of nothing but granola-chewing and chip-crunching, "Did you notice anything off while he was answering us? I don't know about you, but he didn't seem on the level with us."

"Oh yeah," Lorelei swallows her mouthful of chips, "He's lying. Completely."

Good, so you weren't the only person who felt that. If the Newtype who's more powerful than you confirms it, it's probably true.

"Got any idea what he's planning?" You ask, although there's no way she actually would know what-

"War crimes." She replies without hesitation, "Not sure what kind, but definitely war crimes. Some form of mass genocide."

Oh. Lovely.

"See that in his memories?" You ask, and she nods.

"Saw quite a few things, actually. Can't tell whether he was doing his research, or has multiple contingencies. Mass bombardment with nukes, Colony drops, he's definitely considering all of it. I dunno whether he actually has any nukes or not, though. I just saw him doing the research."

Urgh. As if you didn't have enough to worry about.
I'm pretty sure Crux Dogatie is rotating between hypothetical plans, and contingencies that include the one he went with to hide his plan. Since outright hiding it against a Newtype with affinity for uncovering secrets is rather difficult for even a brief period of time, and having the ZZ gundam aboard makes for a great distraction to keep eyes on his ship.

In short colony drops, and UC Gundam are rather depressingly paired together too often imo. So I'd expect them to be in this quest, and having her recently destroyed home colony be utilized as a WMD would really piss Cybele off.

Great analysis.. I've been thinking pretty much the same thing ever since Lorelei dropped the "he's planning war crimes" bomb on us back in the final chapter of Jupiter's Second Coming, even if I wasn't quite as in depth in my own analysis.

My one point of disagreement is that Dogatie is planning only colony drops. These missions have phases in which we can take them, the earlier the better. Like, the longer we put Dogatie off the better his odds of success. He's probably planning at least one war crime besides Colony drops and if we say, put him off till our final chance of stopping him, he probably succeeds or partially succeeds at one of them, and pulls off both if we don't take it.

He's probably going to try and seize the resources he needs for the none colony drop war crime, same as he needs to reach and begin towing Island Cascadia. This let's him avoid the space premium you mentioned.

The hiding his actual intentions bit doesn't actually make sense. Obscuring his thoughts by focusing on multiple options for war crimes still tells everyone he is here for war crimes. Memory based abilities like Kamille and Lorelei are actually pretty rare, as even Jutneu Anstud seems to have been kept in the dark by Dogatie keeping his distance. If we hadn't struck the right cord for Dogatie with Cybele's speech, Cybele probably woudn't have been able to notice him lying, and Lorelei would probably have had a harder time plundering his memories. Newtypes benefit from a connection/shared understanding, as we see with Lorelei being able to hide from her team because they never knew the real her under her pro federation mask.

Edit: Also, I actually genuinely forgot what's his faces Ashta's first name this time beyond the J, and decided to just fall back on the joke rather than look it up.
