If the Emperor passes the test, by whatever metric and standard Mortarion judges these things, I will be pushing for actually getting on board with the Crusade. Because maybe mankind is more than an abstraction and an ideal to him, or an excuse made in the name of his own greater glory, and perchance might still be looking for a better way. If he is merely a man, even if he is the sum of all the dark glories of the Old Night, then there is at least hope.
We owe him nothing, I don't think we will act out of loyalty to the man at any point, but if a bitter thing like the Crusade is to happen I then it is an ill thing best done well. Its rather like how the condemned prays the headsman's stroke is steady and his blade sharp. Very few Primarchs committed to the Crusade purely on its own merit so this would be interesting indeed.

Anybody want to guess if any interlegion conflict will happen? I know in canon the Terran deathguard were disliked because the Barbarus born felt like they were constantly being look down upon.

Late to the party, but I'm pretty sure the Emperor will match any test Mortarion can think to give. At least by the letter of the contest.
Resilience: He's from Unification War era Terra. He's probably had a great deal of practice withstanding harsh times. His skill in shaping flesh most certainly also helps here.
Humility... He's from Unification War era Terra. Struggling for bread? He's also a bioscientist, among other fields. Even if he was never low, ensuring a proper food supply is probably in his wheelhouse.
Camraderie? He conquered a planet. With an army. When he was one option among many. Of course said army will have a strong rapport with him.
I also wouldn't be surprised to see any of these ending the Emperor finding a completely unconventional method of succeeding at any of these, and shooting with a moral of his own. One that fits with his grand scale kind of thinking.
What interests me most, though is which of these Mortarion values most; I think I like the idea of someone to whom their relationship with others matters (at the best case) or who values the ability to pull others into their sway (at the worst case) more than I do someone with who doesn't put themselves above others/who has a disdain for airs.
EDIT: To put another way, I like the idea of someone who thinks that people are important more than I do the idea of someone who thinks that they themselves are not most important.

After sleeping over it, I decided to change my vote. There's something to be said about having a purpose beyond the whole war. All three characteristics describe Morty fairly well and all are worth exploring, but from his own perspective, this one was the driving force to become a farmer.
Doesn't mean he will be a humble man, but it means that he has a clear purpose and path in life and knows where he wants to be at the end of it. That's more than most Primarchs can say for themselves.
Also, the Angron Quests were about Camaraderie iirc. Changing things up is nice.
