Son of Death (30k Mortarion Quest)

I suppose this is metagaming, but there's a nonzero chance here that Emps might just reality warp or use gene-science to further our terraforming efforts extensively
If he could do that, he'd have fixed Terra by now. While I have no doubt he could help, I doubt he'd instantly fix Barabarus. But still, the Emperor could spare some of his vast resources to start a terraforming program to help heal the world while we're campaigning.

Fuuck off Nurgle!

7 times 7...
Nurgle loves gardens and growing things, of course he'll approve of Mortarion's project.

At least Barbarus still has plenty of water to work with. Hard to bring back lots of life without it. (Seriously, where did Terra's oceans go?)

Morty would have never struck the final blow without his comrades, especially psyker bro. He set down to become a farmer so that he could become one amongst equals once again.

The idea of brotherhood seems to be a key driving force behind this mortarion. How does the emperor and his followers compare to the Death Guard? Why do they fight? Are they equals, or is it just an overlord with better pr?

[X] Camaraderie. It was mortal men that scaled the peaks of Barbarus and followed Mortarion into battle. What manner of men have followed the Emperor to this star?

In OTL, that's exactly what he was doing on the side when he went back to Terra to work on the Webway post-Ullanor. It was a source of lament when the Fists were fortifying Terra for the siege to come, that all the progress made in fixing the planet's biosphere was going to go up in smoke.

Yes, but also worse. Even before being strong-armed into selling his soul, Morty was near-obsessively into numerology. Hence the lore blurb of his Deathshrouds always being seven times seven paces from him at all times. The earlier update mentioning a memonic chant to make sure his seals were in place correctly is born from that same aspect of his personality.

[X] Humility. The Emperor may wage war on the stars and rule over billions, but has he ever laboured for his bread

Aside from the humour, it can also be taken as a sobering affair. The Emperor, God of men, for all his good intentions and claims often did not leave sustainable planets in his Imperium. Just letting his sons reclaim worlds with their own judgement.

Having him perform this deed may remind the Emperor of the harshness of simply trying to survive. Of being a speck of mortality in the vast bloodshed and conquest of the galaxy.

Either that or make him have strange views on Mortarion

Camaraderie and brotherhood are some of the main themes of Angron Quest, I'd prefer a different route here.

The emperor will definitely pass whatever test we throw at him. So i'm picking what I think Mortarion should value the most.

Another reason I went for Humility is that while (in my opinion) Pride is the Emperor's Fatal Flaw, it's one that he shares with a number of his sons, including Magnus the Red and Mortarion himself.

So a test of humility, father and son, both of whom struggle with that, it's an interesting dynamic I think.

Consider: Mortarion will interact with Custodes, Dusk Raiders, and many other people who make up the Imperium anyway, but now is likely his only chance to see Emperor put serious effort into trying to be humble. I think this is something that could have interesting effects down the line and feature into Mortarion's own crises of faith.
