I mean. Based on the vote, it doesn't seem like much.

I don't think we will need to worry about that much bloodshed.

Heads up for the 3 people who voted to coordinate with Texas and if things go wrong, ask Carmen. Just outright asking Carmen is ahead of the coordinate with Texas vote, and if we want to still work with Texas since she's the local mafia expert who also knows what's going too far for the Rat King's rules, a vote change could really help out.

I forgot if you covered this already, but what is the Rat King in Arknights?

Like, Sieghart also knows a Rat King, he's an Abnormality (an immortal creature that manifested from the collective consciousness) that embodies all of the City's poor people / Rats.

I'm pretty sure that's not what the Rat King is in Arknights though.

The Rat King is the ruler of Lungmen's underground and the guardian of its slums. The syndicate we're fighting are newcomers to Lungmen but they insist on doing their own thing instead of abiding by his rules.

Think of the Rat King as Master Splinter, but he runs a criminal organization instead. He's a grandfather by the time of this quest, but he's still pretty deadly so it's best not to anger him. If I remember canon right, he was able to match Penguin Logistics on his own until Mostima arrived with her time hax.

i mean, Do you want to mess with the godfather?
This rat king doesn't play around. If you don't play his game, you are going to die and he will do it himself if he have to.
He's basically a leader of a Backstreet finger.

Well, we can argue with him, but we can always break the jar to get the pickle out.
And that jar is not ours. So who cares?

I'm pretty sure City Folk can also work just well enough without needing to torture people.

At best Sieghart would probably break a whole limb or two.

We are amateur at interrogating, so torturing is our best resort, But we might kill him before we get the Information out. So I voted for taxes.

Eh. Sieg can crush his fingers slowly.

That will work. No need to be super aggressive in terms of torturing. Maybe we can even get a bucket and give him the good ol' drowning experience.

I would advise against relying on Carmen alone for the interrogation. Doing this with Texas or someone from PL is essential since they're the ones who can tell him when he's going too far and risking the ire of the Rat King, something we'll want to avoid in Sieg's wounded state.

That, and the problem with torture is that you'll only hear what you want to hear, not necessarily what's the truth. The victim will say anything to stop the pain, even if it's a lie. Texas used to be a bigshot in the Siracusan Mafia, so she's really the one best equipped for this job.

We have the best lie detector of the city at our side. I don't think he is gonna lie without us noticing.

That doesn't really solve the problem with torture in the first place. Even if you can tell someone's only saying something to make the pain stop, that doesn't bring you any closer to the truth.

If we want this to actually be something more than just playing whackamole with lies until they pass out, then working with someone who's familiar with the demographic of the target and the rules of how Lungmen's underground work would be the better option for extracting the truth quickly. If we want to stay in PL's employ to benefit from their contacts and resources, then we'll need to do things their way, in a manner that doesn't jeopardize their dealings with the Rat King.

I guess that is true.
Changing mah vote then.

Sigh. I really wanted to keep going with the torture/Carmen route, if only because it's a meme at this point, but Lucid's got a point.

I'll change my vote.

Less a criminal organization and more a criminal everything in Lungmen lmao.
Also IIRC old Lin was still at that point mostly just messing around with PL (Mostima was kinda too, left the staves or one of them with Yith beforehand I think), even left a present, honestly played out like Mostima and Ch'en's grandfather-in-law were just old buddies shooting the shit. So yeah anyways The Rat King ain't someone we want to get on the bad side of.

Also, I am glad that I chose Binah to be the one who Isekai'd us. Having Fairy in our wound is an interesting injury to play around.

We essentially have to constantly not go all out, not cause we don't want to, but cause if we do the Fairy will Rio us apart.

But that also put a hard cap on our compatibility until we can kill the fairies.
ugh, Let's hope that magic bullshit can help us on that.

They've got a point, plus we can always just use torture anyways if it fails so I'll change my vote.

So, coordinating with Texas won the vote. Just as I maxed out her Potential. Uh, small world.
Also, I am glad that I chose Binah to be the one who Isekai'd us. Having Fairy in our wound is an interesting injury to play around.

We essentially have to constantly not go all out, not cause we don't want to, but cause if we do the Fairy will Rio us apart.
So, little story: first, I was cackling audibly when you thought each of these "choose who killed you" options were buffs. Most of the other wounds you could take wouldn't be as interesting, narratively speaking. They were:
  • Wound of Strength: The most "direct" hurdle of them. Basically, you'd have a huge wound in your midsection, from Greater Split: Horizontal, that would be permanently affected by Nothing There. If this quest was more numbers-heavy, think of it as massive malus to all physical actions with also having all healing actions debuff you afterwards. Everything would just heal wrong there, like eyes, or carcinomas, or dermoid cysts, or just a straight-up eyeball growing inside your stomach, and eventually a mouth that would babble endlessly like Nothing There did.
  • Sanguine Remnants: BLEED. You'd be anaemic at first, because around 80% of your blood dripped straight out of your body in the fight, and then any wound you received would bleed profusely until it was healed.
  • Painful Regrets: All your enemies are now running a Purple Tear Bluntsmoke build, plus Sooty Thwack, and you took Elation. Basically, think of this as a 90% debuff to your Max. Stagger Resist. Anything and everything would send you reeling, overwhelmed by the impact.
  • Memory of Furious Silence: You got sliced to ribbons, and you'd have a different wound for every one of Loland's weapons. Each would start to act up in a different kind of situation (trying to use a blade would act up Durandal, deflecting projectiles acts up Mook Workshop, punching someone Ranga, dodging Crystal Atelier and so on.)
  • Eroded Flesh: You'd have Erosion dripping around your flesh, basically amplifying any damage you took while hitting you with consistent damage all the fucking time.
  • A Nostalgic Sound: Blue Star's sound would echo in your head, and it would actively spread through your words. While named characters could resist it easily, these mafioso you're facing right now? Blue Star cult. Some random knight you faced down, had you taken Kazimierz? Blue Star cult. Originium Slugs? Blue Star cult. If you'd taken Kjerag, you can guess: Kjera would not like you. At all.
