Hey, the thread voted for horrible elemental sorceries beyond mortal purview!

The beyond mortal purview part is alright, she's a Dragon-Blood, and so she has the necessary spiritual refinement and to treat with such forces as an Exalted Prince of the Earth and rightful intercessor between the mundane and the supernatural! Most people not on this island would think the sorcery bit was kind of sketchy, though.

I wonder how many mortals would be able to tell the difference between horrible elemental sorceries and horrible infernal sorceries at the first glance. Or the second. Or even if somebody stopped and spent fifteen minutes on explaining the very basics to them.

Okay, Deiza has this year's award for Completely Unnecessary and Counterproductive Abrasiveness. I can sorta see how it looked like a good idea at the time, but the execution… I guess it's a callback to a path we didn't take?
Multiple paths actually. Dieza was among the runners up for roommates, 3rd place, and is the only one of the runners up we aren't on friendly relationship with. She represents the choice to showoff and use our spirit to make a grand visit to the capital. She was also an alternative storyline option for this year.

A great many wouldn't be able to, and the Realm in particular has a pretty deep seated mistrust of sorcery among the common people. Most cultures do have someone who you can run to in the face of unfamiliar magical shit, though -- that might be your local Immaculate monk in the Realm, or the priesthood of a powerful local god or a trained shaman/exorcist in other places. It varies a lot.

Well, if we do assume the other two face the options we don't pick, we should probably take...

[X] A test of her bonds to others

...because I could imagine the others doing alright with either strength or knowledge, but Maia might have serious problems with that.

I was just rereading this a day or two ago. Heck of a good bit of timing for an update--thanks for writing!

"Studying elementals!" he says.
*she
Unseen by you, as you leave the room, Deiza leans back against a bookshelf, letting out a short, huffy sigh. "And here I was just wanting to talk," she says.
she's so ridiculous
when can we be friends with her
The crab actually dips what you might absurdly interpret as a curtsy. "Aye, mistress," it says again.
i will officially be referring to our crab as our watermaidson and no i will not be taking questions

We're a sorceress. And many reliable sources have told me that friendship is in fact magic.

Question though: would alternate pony!Ambrea be an earth pony?

Adorable crab monster is cute.
[X] A test of her might
We must surpass the limits of our feeble punch-magic!
The water gives way before your focused will, however, condescending first into a vague shape.
I want to say that this should be "condensing", but then I think back to the elementals that we have actually spoken with...

I also recall seeing a "purplle" somewhere...

Ouch. Now I feel bad for this girl. Has no one ever really told her how to make friends? If Deiza was smarter than her peers from an early age, I can see how this could lead to her being rejected by others and forming such a personality. The high expectations probably made it even worse.
If we get the chance, I'll definitely upvote trying to befriend her.

The Magic of Friendship for everyone!

Should have another shot at her storyline next year. No promises to support it myself. She's basically spirit brand Ambraea, but with opposing personality traits. There is a reason she keeps rubbing Ambraea wrong.
When you still have one foot left on the ladder, a hand lashes out, quick as lightning, and snatches up the book, its owner darting back before you can reach for her. You fix the girl in question a hard look. "Simendor Deiza. Wasting your time with childish pranks now, I see."

She actually has the audacity to laugh, ticking a strand of iridescent hair behind one ear, as if to get a better look at the book she's taken from you. "Studying elementals!" she says. "A little more steady and reliable than demons, but without quite so much bite. That seems like it suits you."
She's clearly impulsive and carelessly opinionated. She's practically built to make a bad impression on any earth element sorcerer by nature. Snatching the book in the first place was clearly her instantly caving to curiosity, but holding onto it afterward was the height of foolishness. If this is a typical meeting between them, I'm really not surprised Ambraea gives her the cold shoulder.

Honestly, without Ambraea's own restraint well, let's just say most dragon blood probably wouldn't just walk after this provocation. Really, if she doesn't shape up she's not going to be around long, which could explain why her storyline cuts off at year 3, but thats more guess than anything.

- The Serpent Witch (long term growth direction)
-- Discover a rare spell
-- More snakes
-- Upgrade Verdigris
-- Establish a reputation
Also, next time we have an opportunity to scratch off one of our longterm goals we really should take it.

Also what exactly count's as upgrading Verdigris? Earth element probable means that flight is out, but maybe the ability to swim through solid stone like it's water? Petrifying gaze spell we can cast through him?

In short, you can't help but feel this is the sort of place that Amiti spends much of her spare time.
I suspect a preposition might be missing here?

[x] A test of her knowledge

Our bonds to others have been the theme of the quest from the beginning by design. Court politics ensured it is so, and most of our choices amount to who we spend our time with, and why.

...which is why I want something unrelated for a test of skill. We had a chance to show off our martial capabilities with S'thera, so a test of knowledge it is.

Ya'know, if (and it is a not insignificant 'if') this is the sort of thing where the other party members get the challenge we do not pick, it could be a great opportunity to for Ambrea to learn about her roommates. "A test of bonds with others," is probably the most informative challenge for the others to get from our perspective.

That said, informative is not strictly the same as safe or effective, so this is mostly just a thought I felt I should share before the vote closes.
