May I just say that I find the idea of Our Heroine's ferocious, piss-and-vinegar combat style being subdued by this anomalously talented big squishy cuddly ovoid with bunny ears and a knack for waterbending to be hilarious on some level?

In fairness, I think most Pokemon are, by nature, much more 'fighters' than most humans or even real animals are. A certain amount of use of force is just part of how you make yourself heard, which helps to compensate for the fact that, as a Pokemon, your spoken language consists of about four syllables. :p
