Part of me is tempted to put this quest in hiatus just because the other one has so much more engagement, but I also do not want to leave my first original quest hanging. I'll sleep on it, if you guys are still interested I'll continue it.
Eh... I think I will keep writing, this quest is still fun to me and it's not like there is no one reading.
Please do what feels most interesting and fun to you in the free time you have. If this quest ever stops being included in that, nobody could begrudge you focusing on other things, that the nature of the game, it goes only if everybody, both the players and QM, are interested and having fun, possibly compared to other things they could be doing.

@DragonParadox, and some questions:

1. Was there any time for Inge and Zaia to brew some potions during the journey from Apuku to the Respite?

2. You mentioned some updates ago that Esha was rolling well for spells, did it mean that her spellbook is reconstituted? Or maybe there were some new spells she had learned? Also, if the spellbook is reconstituted, as far as I understand there should be some gp cost for that.

  1. I am going to say yes, you guys can vote on it as part of the next vote
  2. Oh right I should include the spells in the next update

As a note the spellbook will be covered in the update after this because I cannot think of how to fit this properly in this one with all the other stuff.

Arc 15 Post 26: A Chill Welcome
A Chill Welcome

Fourth of Olweje-hamba (Olweje Descendent), 1349 A. L. (After Landfall)

Hugh looks to have all his arms and legs as well as both his arms unpecked by owls though the new knotted scar across his cheek is not encouraging, neither is the fact that Neios is dressed in armor as though ready for battle at the sight of a ship on the horizon. "A sight for sore eyes you are my lord, a sight for sore eyes and not a moment too soon. Things have been going worse with the Purples since the lady came through, a southerner she was even beyond Agber, and she were roadworn and weary so we let her in and she was a good guest as far as that went... but then the Purples came and claimed she had stolen a thing of theirs, a necklace well prized by their prince Abir. "

"Hah, prince!" Neios scoffs. "Better to say a knave out of Farshore, the lady was clearly of noble blood and the brigands sought to rob her, if not to take her prisoner for ransom. Let them bark I say, what do we care what goes on in the much of Farshore?"

"Because that's most of the markets, all the ones that don't try to skin your twice, and nevermind that we made a deal with the Purples to provide some of Zaia's tinctures and potions, that's down the shit hole, pardon my language my lord."

"I will not pardon it!" Neios snaps but your man just keeps talking, clearly fed up with dealing with the prince.

"We set guard in case they meant to rob us, but none came, not for us and not for the horses. We had four foals in the winter, but we started to get rats in the food stores 'ound that time, eating everything bare they did. Not sure if it was the work of the Purple or some curse, but we couldn't drive them out, not with fire, not with traps, at least not until the owls came. They've been sitting guard on the tower ever since..."

You call out to Inge to keep the gulls back, though the girl struggles with it for she had promised them a roost on shore. So it is not until the evening once Zaia, Esha and even Mog had settled into rooms in the keep that she makes it to shore under the eyes of birds strange and arcane.

"Someone died here..." you almost don't hear the words, they had been so soft.

Almost, but still you hear it, still you ask as she goes up the rain slick steps "What?"

"I can feel it, the veil opened, the gate's been left ajar. There's something, someone maybe still here."

But no one of your company had died, of that you had been sure since going in, so who then could have perished in your halls and not even been known for it?

Returning to Hugh in the tower you ask more about this lady. She had apparently left a pile of pearls and a note in clay which you hand to Esha.

"That's odd..." she trails off. "This is a wedding invitation to celebrate the union of a lady of Ebene, that is one of the oasis towns south of Agber, and a lord of the Great Land. "

"What is so odd about it? True I do not think we shall be partaking, but perhaps it was just an odd way for a thief to mark her passage."

"It is dated sixty three years ago and if I recall aright, Ebene no longer stands," Esha replies, speaking softly as though afraid she will be overheard. "Rumor along the road claimed it was ravaged by plague, it's people scattered."

What do you do?

[] Order everyone out of the keep while you investigate

[] No need to cause panic and strife over a feeling and an odd note, if your men and the fishermen have been fine for months then so too shall you be while you look into this

[] Write in

OOC: And finally we are here. Those were some wild rolls in the background when I did the interlude.

I don't want to frighten anyone, especially the Changeling children and refugees from the village we rescued, but this is probably something better seen to sooner rather than later, especially after everyone has moved in and tried to get settled in the keep.

[X] Order everyone out of the keep while you investigate
-[X] Rather than frightening everyone, try to make, if not a celebration of our return, at least a chance for everyone to have a meal and enjoy a meal together, if the weather and our supplies allow for it. It isn't just us and our crew returning home, but the Otter-kin who have not seen their friends and relatives for a great span of time by the reckoning of their people.
-[X] Remove the pearls and tablet from the keep and have Inge and Esha both examine them for magic.

[X] Retroactive Potion Brewing
-[X] 1st Level: Cure Light Wounds x8 [400 gold]
-[X] 2nd Level: Ablative Barrier x3, Invisibility x1 [1600 gold]

Oh dear.
I've stopped voting recently because I've been busy, but I'll definitely pitch in if it's that or the ride stops.

@DragonParadox, two questions regarding the vote for potion brewing on the journey from Lirman to the Respite.

1. Before when we brewed you gave us a brewing cost cap, do we have it now?

2. Is there a count of CLWs and other alchemical supplies we expended during the journey? It'll help with deciding how much to brew. Though I can try counting myself if you don't have one ready.

@Goldfish, regarding voting for the potion brewing according to DP's direction,
Was there any time for Inge and Zaia to brew some potions during the journey from Apuku to the Respite?
I am going to say yes, you guys can vote on it as part of the next vote
could you add a potion brewing section to you vote? I'm thinking, in the order of priority, 10 x CLW (500 gp) and 5 x Ablative Barrier CL 4 (2000 gp).

Feel free to adjust as you see fit, but I would like to at least start stockpiling Ablative Barrier in case we'll ever need to fight something tough to give it to all 5 members of our hastened strike squad. It's costly, but we won't be using it frequently, and we don't hurt for money, we are almost in the black with Zaia's wine income of 3000 gp / season and possibly would get additional 1500 gp / season from the Purple alchemy deal if we'll resolve matters with them. So if not 5 x Ablative Barrier, then at least 2x or 1x.

I'll include it in my next vote once @DragonParadox gives us an idea of how many potions they were able to brew in the time available.

I definitely agree on the value of having some Ablative Barrier potions. Having an extra one or two See Invisibility potions available wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

  1. You can brew up to 2000 gp worth
  2. You spent 7 CLW potions

@Goldfish, add a potion vote now that we know we can brew 2000 gp worth?

Regarding See Invisibility, given that it's range: personal, target: you, as far as I understand it can't be made into a potion even by Zaia with his Infusion discovery, confirmed by DP here:
As a matter of pure fluff when Zaia makes a potion of a 'self only' spell he cannot stabilize it, the thing will work if drunk immediately and count towards his abstract limit on spells (how much of his soul he has put into his magic for the day), but if he does not use it at once the magic fades.

Regarding CLWs, we had 36 CLWs, gained 2 from the thief and spent 7, so now we have 31.

We can brew 8 CLWs (400 gp) to bring the total to 39, and additional 4 x Ablative Barrier CL 4 (1600 gp) for 2000 gp total or 5 x Ablative Barrier CL 3 (1500 gp) for 1900 gp total.

@DragonParadox changed that ruling IIRC. Alchemists with the Infusion Discovery are supposed to be able to share even Personal range extracts with others. Zaia has been doing it with Shield extracts for a while now, and he's been doing it with Focused Scrutiny extracts since reaching 4th level.

Added this to my vote:

[] Retroactive Potion Brewing
-[] 1st Level: Cure Light Wounds x8 [400 gold]
-[] 2nd Level: Ablative Barrier x3, See Invisibility [1600 gold]

EDIT:
Just reread the section you quoted, @myrix. That wasn't saying he couldn't use Personal range extracts on others, but that he has to be the one to give them the extract and they have to take it immediately. They can't carry it with them and use it a few minutes later.I

EDIT #2: Never mind, @myrix, I'm a dummy and my brain is fried from work stuff this morning. I see what you're saying now.

No, I meant it as Zaia can share extracts, but can't make potions out of them. Like DP says in the full ruling, he can give extract immediately, so he can share spells, but he can't store it as a potion for later use:
Oh, right he could simply cast the spell, which for him is also a potion because that's how the class works. Yeah that is fine then.

As a matter of pure fluff when Zaia makes a potion of a 'self only' spell he cannot stabilize it, the thing will work if drunk immediately and count towards his abstract limit on spells (how much of his soul he has put into his magic for the day), but if he does not use it at once the magic fades.
So casting Shield, See Invisibility and Focused Scrutiny on others is fine, brewing them into potions is not.

I've changed my plan to 4 potions of Ablative Barrier, but I'm wondering if a potion of Invisibility wouldn't be worth keeping in hand?

Given that we were really fucked up by invisible foes at least twice, it can be useful, yeah, maybe even 2?
I've swapped in one Invisibility potion for now. I would like to start trying to stockpile more of them when we get a chance, but Ablative Barrier is still a priority, IMO.
