GODSTAR - a Science Fantasy Civilization Quest

My understanding of the map and of respective capabilities is that it could be difficult to turn the LoS and the Tech Barons against each other in the short term, because there's a lot of distance and I don't think the LoS tech mix has a ton of suitable long-distance transport. (I wouldn't be surprised if the Tech Barons or MAAUH have a couple nice naval or air assets, though.) We're in the middle with buffer space in all directions.

Tech Barons v Sanctuary or MAAUH seems more easily accomplished, which might push me to contacting the MAAUH before the League of Strength. (Also, ngl, they're more intriguing from an "explore the lore" perspective.)

I'm also like...not sure where we stack up militarily? The dominant assumption of our voters and anxieties seems to be "behind, close the missile gap!" but I a) think we might be doing better than we think, and b) don't have great concrete indicators either way.

Ceterem autem censeo, Sanctuary must be contacted.

Metal of Magic + Historians, Math and Spirits of the Dead sound like they could eventually make proto-Computers : Attach the spirit of a dead Historian specialized in math to a object and maybe even link them somehow (like a mechanical-spiritual engine?).

In order to make knowledge freely available, we could develop a communal akashic network that all the People can tap into, then augment it with a network of carved crystal monuments that can serve as range boosters and additional storage space. That would fit our emphasis on both earth and mind magic.

Turn 3 Crisis
CRISIS

An armed convoy has crossed one of the passes in the mountains separating the lands of the True People from the high steppe. This is not a true Machine Army, just the ragged offshoots of one, the battered losers of the war of unification that has raged in the interior. They are tearing down the river valley to your north, attacking independent tribes and seeking to carve out a new home.

Machine Army of the Broken Wheel: 1 dice. 99 (+5 Technology Bonus) = 104.
Northern Tribes: 1 dice + 1 dice + 1 dice. 24 + 39 + 13 = 76.

They smash through the unprepared forces arrayed against them, taking a major city and defeating a counterattack. The shattered tribal forces scatter, allowing the Machine Army to dig in and begin establishing a local base of operations. Smoke and strange metallic constructions can be seen rising beyond the walls of the fallen city…

Their weapons and war machines are not like any you have seen, and desperate envoys from the northern tribes have arrived before the high council of the League to beg for your aid. Your Warrior Societies argue fiercely in favor of intervention, especially when they learn the northern tribes have also asked the League of Strength for assistance. Honor demands we defend the defenseless; we cannot allow the League of Strength to take all the glory! The invaders could attack us next!

This feels overdetermined to me: test our strengthening military, protect a flank, out-perform the League of Strength for the respect of our people's people, and also death to tyrants.

I really didn't doubt the outcome of the vote, but I had reservations about committing you to a foreign war without at least giving you a cursory opportunity to chicken out. :p

It read more like the first deployment of a special UI tab in Godstar the Hit Video Game, one that we're greeting with excitement but will later come to dread. The first hit is free, etc.

Y'know, this will probably be a pretty great time to steal tech from the northern tribes and the machine army.

This must be contained as soon as possible, and the People might get a few new members or vassels, and possibly tech, out of this. More importantly, it denies the League of Strength from getting their grubby hands on them, possibly making a future conflict with them easier for the people.
