Age of Ice and Blood: A Pathfinder System Heroic Fantasy Quest

Good night guys, see you tomorrow with answers from the fey and probably Esha's level up

One thing you might want to keep in mind is that she finally gets level 2 spells but for the sake of not taking spells already in Ipsit's spell book here is what they look like
Pyrotechnics, Make Whole, Scorching Ray, Warding Weapon, Fool's Gold

She has looked through that enough to know what they are even if she has not been able to learn them yet.
We are missing several good level 2 spells from Ipsit and didn`t even get started on level 3.

[] Take the aid of the Wingless and his fey
-[] Pay with Esha's spellbook (she will not be able to reassign spells until she writes a new one)
-[] Pay with Zaia's spellbook (he will not be able to regain spells until she writes a new one)
-[] Try to copy one of the spellbooks, you should have time to get back within the day even so as long as the hunt is not too long
-[] Give up Ipsit's spellbook
Esha or Zaia woulds till be able to reconstitute their spellbooks, though, right? From notes back on Marcella and their own memory, I'm assuming?

3rd level spells are so far off for Esha it's barely worth considering them at the moment, but some of those 2nd level spells are really good. I'm especially looking forward to Make Whole and Pyrotechnics.

Considering that we've yet to find a single alternative source for spells in the quest, despite being on this planet for well over a year now, I'm going to assume that there isn't one, at least not within reasonable reach.
Yes, but it would take them time and during that time they would be limited in how they used their magic. Also you would have to pay the price for materials fit for spellbooks
That's what I figured. At least Esha will be able to continue using her current loadout in the meantime, but Zaia wouldn't even be able to prepare new extracts without his book, making it a much more valuable resource in the short-term.

Spell LevelWriting Cost
05 gp
110 gp
240 gp

With 10 cantrips, 14 1st level spells, and a single 2nd level spell, it will cost 230 gold for Esha to reconstitute her spellbook. Thankfully, since they're all low level spells the necessary time to do so will be fairly trivial considering that we spend so much time at sea.

230 gold is not cheap, but I would weigh that cost as an acceptable expense given our lack of familiarity with the area and the limited amount of time we can spend here.

I was thinking maybe we could sell some dragon parts but a) I'm assuming we arent randomly carrying the parts around and b) that would put a massive target on our backs

I don't think we should unilaterally decide on this, given the importance of a mage's spellbook and the potential complications which will arise from its absence. I am against parting with Zaia's, though, as he would be SOL once his current extracts are depleted. Esha has a good loadout prepared which she can continue using in the meantime.

[X] Given the nature of their magic, and Zaia's greater dependence on his spellbook to prepare his concoctions, ask Esha to part with either her spellbook or Ipsit's, with the understanding that we would, of course, cover the expense of the materials needed to reproduce it.
-[X] Leave the decision up to her, whether she prefers the temporary inconvenience of her spells being limited to what she has currently memorized versus the certain loss of spells if we part with Ipsit's book before she finishes deciphering its secrets.

If only we had a Handy Haversack...

Unfortunately, I don't think Bags of Holding of any sort are going to be a thing in this setting, given the level of spells needed to create them. :(

DP has hinted that there's a somewhat stronger tradition of enchanters and learned mages in Africa.

The assassin had a pretty solid set of spells. From what we've learned so far, getting Alchemical formulae for Zaia will probably be even more difficult than new spells for Esha. The only place I can recall hearing about having a tradition of magical Alchemy also jealously guards their secrets, so much so that they send assassins after people they believe to have stolen any of their lore.

Losing out on this book wouldn't be too bad, though it's got some good stuff in it that we'll likely have a hard time coming by elsewhere.

I'm looking forward to Ablative Barrier, Invisibility, and Alter Self being usable once Zaia levels up.

@DragonParadox what about the Vetala's spellbook?
That would be a good alternative, though I doubt we're carrying it. There wouldn't really have been any reason to lug it with us on a short jaunt to the Feywild. Same with Shadow's formulae book.

Neither are particularly bulky, but we don't have extradimensional storage spaces, so we're really limited in what we can carry with us.

[X] Goldfish

Well at least now we know once we learned all the spells in enemy spellbooks selling them to the Fey is a good idea. We can probably sell the Vetala's spellbook to the Court of Gears once we go back to our base

Now that you mention it, though, most of Esha's spells come from her father's spellbook, so between having that and Ipsit's at hand, it should significantly speed up the time needed to rewrite her own.

We should also consider going ahead and footing the expense for Esha and Zaia to make duplicate backup spellbooks. They're not hugely expensive, since there won't be any spells in them higher than 3rd level, but recreating them on short notice is basically impossible given the time needed, and they might occasionally serve as alternative currency with the Fey.

hmm i definitely understand why Esha did it but that's inconvenient. Then again this was a long shot in the first place.

Judgement of the Earth

Day of Rule, 1349 A. L. (After Landfall)

Truth be told you are not sure what to make of the thought of a judge among the fey who do not die and have no lords to guide them in this place. Who then would judge them? Not a wise judge as in the scriptures certainly for how do you judge eternity against itself and amid the bustling crowds who is lord and who is commoner? This place was made as a repository for knowledge the bridge guardian had said, but knowledge is not wisdom, not by far. So as far as you could envisage anything in this strange realm you saw the Wingless as a sort of watch captain and thief taker, of the sort that grow rich off the wealth that is passed honestly or not through the busy streets and you are wholly prepared to simply bribe him not to get in your way as you hunt the thief yourself, for even if he should be honest despite your fears he would have no reason to be pressed as you are pressed.

That is not to mention the six hooves now clomping along to your right... Yet though the company may be trouble you do not regret it, on two legs, or four or even six you have seen enough of cruelty to recognize those who have been scarred by it and you would help Mengin if you can.

Thus it is head high that you pass the arch carved in the shape of leaves and flowers, well better to say mostly with your head high, Zaia is far too busy looking at everything from the cobbles to the bronze-clad keystone of the arch to pay any mind to the guards. Granted these guards were no larger than most of the city's inhabitants, but they have about them some of the solidity of the earth and though their weapons might once have been simple picks they have been transformed to something more befitting to the hewing of flesh than stone.

Here you are bid to wait in a narrow court with no company but the silent guards for what seems to you a long while, though without the sight of the sun you cannot say how long it might have been.

At last one of the windows above, or perhaps doors meant for those who can yet fly, opens and then you see a host of pixie's kin all with skin blue as the sky when the sun is new set, all with hair black as night. Four come as guards, armed with slender blades that you might be tempted to think insignificant had you not known the peril of flying foes and four come bearing between them the seat of their lord.

You are thankful indeed to the talkative toll taker who had said not to show pity, apart from the maiming that gives him his title the Wingless alone of all the fey you have meet seems old, his face wrinkled and body withered as a man of three score of years and more. "Speak mortal what do you seek?"

"A thief has gone out into the realms of men and stolen something precious from us, a spear that has slain one of the dragons who preyed on the mortal world, this rogue has taken it into this fair city, behold the mark of it..." Thus motioning to the wayfinder you give your full account, including the name the thief had daubed over Ro's house and the trickery he had used to be paid to flee.

"You have a path and you have weapons aplenty," a bony hand rubs withered cheek. "I would give you leave to hunt this thief of your own power so long as you harm no others who are not in this matter tangled and you do not do harm to the city, or I could send some of mine to aid in the snaring, but that will cost you in the High Coin of the city, lore and knowledge..." He turns to look Zaia and Esha up and down with bright black eyes. "Either of your collections will do."

"And we would thereby be disarmed on the eve of battle?" Esha scoffs, though for your hearing alone she adds, "I could give up Ipsit's tome as well, but there are spells within yet that I have not mastered."

What do you do?

[] Seek the thief yourself, leave is all you needed

[] Take the aid of the Wingless and his fey
-[] Pay with Esha's spellbook (she will not be able to reassign spells until she writes a new one)
-[] Pay with Zaia's spellbook (he will not be able to regain spells until he writes a new one)
-[] Try to copy one of the spellbooks, you should have time to get back within the day even so as long as the hunt is not too long
-[] Give up Ipsit's spellbook

[] Write in

OOC: Since I know you guys are going to ask, no, in this case you cannot pay in tales. The Wingless is a city guard and lawkeeper, not a troubadour or a bored noble fey.
