Towards the Golden Throne (Warhammer 40k Xianxia)

What exactly does the lethal challenge change relative to one that isn't? I assume it has to end in death, but that would also suggest it's a different type of opponent -- more of the crazy and/or desperate type compared to more normal gladiators.

Or is it that we promise to kill the person we fight?

Most duels between champions are to something like first blood or submission, or perhaps until some other objective is achieved.

Lethal duels are just that - two (or more) people enter, one person leaves.

[X] Plan Knowledge is Power, Contacts are Currency, and Smashing Face is Our Jam

Finally caught up on the last few updates, really enjoying where this is going!

You blink, then shake your head. Grist is an Adept, you can tell that much, but he's hiding his strength behind a shimmering mirror of shadows and ash. You suppose the ambiguity might be threatening to some, but you have no time for it, and with a bleak look you intone a word of command in sacred binary. There are a dozen viewscreens in this room, giving the occupants a good look at every inch of their supposed domain, and at your word they all go black and sing the praises of the Omnissiah.
Now this is just a nice trick.

Our adept can play her own boss-music. Very underrated ability.

[X] Plan: Investing In The Future

OK it looks like we have a fairly strong consensus on what to do, but I'll leave the vote option for a few hours more anyway just to give anyone who hasn't voted yet a chance to cast their lot.

@Maugan Ra Something that occurred to me overnight - on the topic of getting money to cover our operating costs for this adventure, if we're fighting in the pit can we ask Melua to place a bet on us with whatever resources she brought with her? If we're taking a lethal fight as an unknown challenger with no provenance or track record (which my plan does) then I think we should be able to get pretty good odds, too.

Entirely acceptable, though she won't be betting huge amounts, on account of how she isn't actually sure you won't just up and die in an anticlimactic fashion.

Fair enough, I suppose she doesn't really know us at this point either. As long as we get enough to cover basic operating costs I'll be perfectly happy.

Actually, hmm. This might be a bit more of a stretch, but would Grist let us take out a loan in order to place a bet with a competing bookie? If that would cost a boon then never mind because at that point we might as well just ask him for the money straight-up, but I'm hoping it wouldn't since he should be able to figure that the odds on us will be miscalculated by bookies who don't know who we are and it'd be a way for him to stick a finger in the eye of the competition.
