Age of Ice and Blood: A Pathfinder System Heroic Fantasy Quest

Oh, wow, that went better than I expected. More of our people agreed to be marked than I would have guessed, too.

I don't want to hurt Marcella's feelings, but I would rather not introduce psionics into the quest like this, especially not at the cost of a feat, none of which Roland really has to spare.

[X] Refuse, as gently as you may, that is not a gift you wish, nor would you lose anything of what your life has made you
-[X] "Let us come to know one another as friends and companions have since time immemorial, through shared experiences and the steady march of time. There is no need to rush into your new existence, Marcella. You will have many opportunities to learn of us in the coming days, just as we will learn more of you."

I'm in favor. Being psionic opens a lot of neat options, even ones that aren't "magic" in the sense of casting spells (powers), but passive benefits from being focused. Like the Psionic Weapon feat: your attacks deal 1 extra point of damage while you have psionic focus, you can expend it for 2d6 extra damage on one attack. And this game awards more extra feats than most. Unsure on what feat could be reasonably dropped though.

DP, would we be able to re-learn what's lost?

Yes, you would be able to take the lost feat normally on level up, or once you get to level six as part of the bonus feat progression.

Could we ask for volunteers? It's possible someone from our crew (or Zaia) would be glad to talk to the Marcella, and she doesn't seem to ask for our experience personally.

[X] Accept, memories grow dim, and skills fade, but all around you whispers grow.... a glimpse of understanding (Exchange one feat of your choosing for Wild Talent; Unlocks Psionics)
-[X] Mounted Combat

Nothing venture nothing gained

One thing you guys might want to consider if you do got for psionics.... and this is a bit OOC, but only a bit for those who recall ASWAH, is that psionics and magic are not part of the same metaphysics system. Esha and Inge are going to be as confused as Rolandif you do decide to go for it. On the one hand that means you will not be playing catch up from an OOC PoV as you would with magic, but on the other... well you are going to be on your own when it comes to training.

Okay, psionics seem really cool. Plus it is a further bond with Marcella, a way of giving her(?) a more human perspective.

Tell me y'all see Psychic Warrior and don't think that's the coolest? :V

Edit: This subclass actually fits even better. Peak bodyguard Roland

Not very sure about this decision...

Ehhh I don't really like the thought of a class change. I like the passive psionic feats because of how they can improve Roland through near-mundane focus and concentration and battle trance, rather than having to engage with a new and overt magic system. Some of the available "while psionically focused" feats in this category: Psionic Weapon (+1 damage), Greater PW (+2 damage), Psionic Critical (+1d8 critical damage), Speed of Thought (+10ft move speed), Ghost Attack (75% instead of 50% hit against incorporeal creatures).

The capstone I really like of such feats: Deep Impact. Expend your psionic focus to resolve a melee attack as a touch attack. Counters a lot of things with heavy armor/natural armor.

Fair; I figure that even if people choose not to pursue it fully it could just be a little extra bit on top. :p

Still hoping for a caster

Sleeping Goddess is an initiator discipline available only to psionic characters (of course if DP allows it).
Too exotic for my taste.
I want to keep Roland as someone almost mundane, just much better at it than a regular mortal could be.
A master of arms, armor and his own body and mind, without inherent magic or alien powers like Psionics.

Golden Lion, Iron Tortoise, Mithral Current, Scarlet Throne or Eternal Guardian.

I agree. This quest is about the triumph of mundane men against magic

Arc 12 interlude 2: Small Treasures
Small Treasures

Twenty Ninth Day of Elnu-eza (Elnu Ascendant), 1349 A. L. (After Landfall)

It was not a common thing for the People of the Swift Flowing waters to be summoned thus to moot. The spring was yet young, the lean time before the stores could be refilled, and yet the call had gone up, from Willowbrook near the shores of the Great Bitter Water, rich in people and rich in its hunting yet bearers of many a dark tale. They were the keepers of the Accursed Place and on their snouts was more blood of man than upon those of any other among the people... yet the news that went up was good, the curse had been lifted, the beast had been slain and the sins oft whispered yet never spoken of had been made clean.

There were some who did not hold with the tale, some who were bitter and jealous, and others yet who nursed grudges from the men who had been slain in keeping of that place, their allies and partners in trade. Why should they listen to such fanciful notions, a great Barge-That-Was-Not-A-Barge from over the endless depths bearing warriors who could slay a dragon? Indeed it seemed madness. Perhaps, said the Weasel-Eaters chief slyly, the mind of their elders had finally gone.

But one could not deny the things many fair that they had brought to market and no one could deny also that for the first time in many seasons the Willowbrook Kindred let any who would wish walk among the hills. Aye, it was there that they called a moot. Thus is was, as much from curiosity as from the calls of their kin, that half a dozen kindred sent heralds from many leagues away such as would be a wonder to the race of man who walked mostly upon two feet, or else rode on four, for the people came on swift flowing rivers that were the blood of the land.

And yet they gave little thought to the place where all the rivers lead, thought Heavy Tail, brother of Swift Pebble who was gone into the south. Like his sister he too had seen the wonders that the southerners had brought with them and he too had desired them for himself and for his kin, but unlike his sister who had gone off into the wide world he had thought long and hard of how they might bring them to all of the people.

It came to him that the answer had been that the strangers had many fine tools that were not stone, but more like the fey-bane yet not it. They had it was said bronze and it was the pieces of this bronze that they looked for in the lands of the north far off... but even without that piece you could still make tools of the simpler stuff. 'Copper' it was called in their mouth-sounds, and it was more common than the other which was 'tin' but the people were not as men in another way they spoke not with mouth-sounds but among each other with thought that was as light in the eye and sound in the air and smell in the nose.

"It is a long way to the mountains," some clamored. Why should they seek this strange not-stone when the tools of their fathers had served them well though the Long Seasons? Who was he to bid them do this?

"I am no one," Heavy Tail said. "I ask you to do nothing for me, not even to thank me, but this," he lifted up a piece of copper, flashing red and green in the sun, "would make the lives of your elders more easy in the crafting and perhaps would see more pups live through the winter. What have we to lose in seeking out more of it in trade and perhaps in many Long Seasons come to find the place of it among the deep earth as we do with the grey stone and the black?"

He looked around and saw the chief of the Weasel Eaters turn his tail to him and slap it into the ground in contempt. "If you turn your asses to the sun it can still burn you!" he warned. "What if more men of the south come and they are not as kindly? Great Not Barges that can fit three hands of hands of their warriors in them?" Heavy Tail slammed the piece of copper on the ground. "That is our gift, you may take it or you may not, but we will not come to you in your dens to give it to you again."

Some kindreds came and took counsel and some did not and were left as they were, but even among those who were interested there was a furor and disbelief. "You want to build a Not Barge on the Bitter Water?" they asked

So he did.

OOC: An otter-kin Long Season mean five years. They count in base five, not base ten.

Agreed. I'm personally hoping for a Golden Lion discipline Warlord with the Bannerman Archetype. That will be very much like Roland as he has been, only dialed up to 11. Fun and strong, but with more options, and without leaning into magic or other really supernatural stuff.

The main problem with the Psychic Warrior class, at least IMO, is that it doesn't have full BAB progression. In a P6 rules setting, unless a martial character has full BAB progression, they cannot develop a second iterative attack, cannot qualify for the Epic feat to further boost their attack bonus, and are just going to be generally inferior as melee combatants, and with the lower level of magic, the stuff that normally helps to mitigate this shortcoming for 3/4 BAB progression classes really isn't available. In fact, Roland's BAB is already higher than a 6th level Psychic Warrior would be able to get theirs.

As things stand now, the next time Roland levels up his BAB will be enough to gain an additional attack. So instead of his current +9, with Weapon Focus as his next Fighter bonus feat, it will be +11/+6. That's a significant increase in his combat capacity. Once Haste becomes available, that will get even better.
