Age of Ice and Blood: A Pathfinder System Heroic Fantasy Quest

This is as good an opportunity as we're going to get to acquire Neios' services as a potential guard for Wayfarer's Respite while we're off at war.

What do y'all think?

[X] An offer of a different sort
-[X] "I understand why you have not asked for a loan from the Fellowship, my lord. Admittedly, we have done much for you that others might consider charity, and accepting more merely compounds the issue. For one with a background such as yours, this must be a nearly intolerable situation."

--[X] "This is why I am not going to offer you a loan. Come Spring, the Marcella and the men of the Fellowship will sail for Apuku once more, to fulfill a pledge to aid them in a coming battle against dark forces."
---[X] "I won't ask you to endanger yourself or your guards on our mission, for you have your own path to follow. Instead, I wish you to watch over Wayfarer's Respite, to assist those men we leave behind in guarding it from the unscrupulous who call Orinilu home, and to continue training the guardsmen serving House Koire in our absence."
----[X] "For this service, when we return from our campaign among the Anwari islands, the Fellowship will reimburse you for your time and expertise, providing you the coin needed to fund your return to your homeland free of debts or favors owed. This would not be charity or even a loan, but something you have earned by the sweat of your brow and the skill of your arms. What say you, Lord Neios?"

I do not return from Apiku to Orinilu. I want to go to Inaurna Empire.
That isn't really something we can reasonably do quite so soon. We have stuff to do in Orinilu after we're finished in Apuku, including helping with the horse breeding program we've committed to, which will earn us 8,000 gold and more favorable contacts among the wealthy and powerful of the city.

We'll also need to make longer term arrangements for Wayfarer's Respite before we go on such a long journey. We will need more guards, employees, etc., to manage our interests while we are gone. That's another reason to stay on good terms with House Koire and to help train their guards.

To make a trip that distance, we will also need a cargo with enough value to justify the expense of the journey, one that will earn a profit and allow us to purchase goods for the return trip back to Orinilu. Upkeep on Marcella, paying her crew and our men, and funding our efforts to expand our trade presence are all very expensive, so we can't just travel around willy-nilly for fun.

Do you expect the pirates to tail you for another go after the last attempt with more firepower?
I doubt it. We've demonstrated quite thoroughly by now that we are not easy meat. Enough survived to flee us the last time that the news will have spread by now. That last attack was instigated by Isele, who is dead. If his clan has more people willing and able to seek revenge, I would be surprised.

@DragonParadox , what does Antonio thinks about trade journey to Inaurna Empire? Will it be "willy-nilly", or does Orinilu/Anwari islands have some valuable trade goods?

Given the fact that you are traveling between one city and another over a span of thousands of leagues there are always high value trade goods available in one place and not the other, as a function of manufacturing, climate and other resources. For instance West Africa has a lot more gold than you are likely to find in the Blue Sea, but also a lot less of certain spices that only grow in say the Levant and the Middle East.

Antonio does not know what all those trade goods are, but he could find them.

---[X] "Also, four of company's men are cursed. If all other measures fail, we'll be ought to sail North again and seek help of onkushu, fire spirit. I do not want to give you false hope, but maybe we'll manage to persuade Virokaia and attempt to reclaim your treasure"

If we'll be ought to sail north again to break curse (and gain profit), why not try to help Neios (and gain profit) on the way?

I think it's possible long as there are pirates much stronger and numerous than Isele. If his clan considers the blood feud to be not worth it that's that but other pirates might be more greedy to try it as the Marcella is at the moment one of it's kind to be a prize for any pirate to snatch when they hear the crew's exploits so Roland and crew might have to murderhobo them for their foolishness.

When it comes to foreigners and not their own people every Anwa lord is a pirate if given the opportunity they think is worth the risk, so yeah there are pirates more numerous than Isele's band... a whole people's worth of them. ;)

Quantity is a quality of it's own if they really want the Marcella that they'll swarm and board it with the crew of multiple ships.......

Kinda like how in shogun total war you might steal a nanban warship by overwhelming it with multiple ships to board it.

Or could they not just hit us while we're in port at Lirman? That way we can't really escape, and then they can bring far more forces to bear?
Just have to blockade us in, and then overwhelm us with numbers.

That would drive Lirnan to defend against them too.

Isn't the standard principle to snatching a ship is when it goes out to sea for a pirate? If it's too much just bring more ships for one ship or more?

And that's why I want to avoid them as best we can manage after we help with the assault on Korman.

Gentlemen, you are assuming they can swarm us with robots.

Human pirates have morale. And they will stop coming once we burn a good amount of them to death.

Goldfish, are you sure of that?

Regarding the breeding program, I understood that we'll leave some of our horses for exactly this reason.

If we plan our long absense in advance, we can make all required long-term arrangements for our base and for our contacts in the city, including relations with House Koire with training their men by some of our men that will stay and by Neios and his guards, if he'll agree.

Regarding trade goods, we have this from Aina:
...[Aina] turns to you and by the silent voice of your small companion proclaims: "If Elnu weaves my fate with the gold of kingship once more then know you will be welcome into the Thousand Caves, as a true friend in darkest times."

A promise that might be worth much, but even if it is worth no more than the breath it took to speak it you still mark it fairly said.
After we defeat Korman daemons and reinstate her as a rightful queen, we will be in a uniquely advantageous position to get any trade goods we would want on Korman, largest and richest of the Sunset Islands, maybe even some rewards from the royal treasury, and travel south with Moru and Ziku. Moru wanted to go to Inaurna right away, so I'm sure that after Korman they will head straight there. If we are together with them, it will be better for us in Inaurna.

So overwall we can do it, going to Inaurna right after Korman, and we can do it in a good way, with profitable trade, not just for fun, and we'll have Moru and Ziku with us, a unique advantage. And going there promises great rewards, knowledge and magic. So why not do it? How is any other destination better, judging by profits, monetary and non-monetary? Why delay going there?

@DragonParadox, can you clarify an approximate length of the trip to Inaurna from the Sunset Islands? Judging by this world map
it looks like it should be about twice as long as the trip from Sunset Islands to the Danuk's lands, so about 90 days? Or, taking in account that Marcella is actually significantly faster than the Pride, less, so maybe about 60 days?

Edit: actually, we departed from Apuku 1st Ashinu-ezna and arrived in Danuk's Stormhaven 40th Ahinu-ezna, and that counting the stop to investigate and kill the dragon. So perhaps traveling from the Sunset Islands to Inaurna would be 80 days of average speed and about 50 days with Marcella's superior speed?

If numbers were deciding we'd be dead.

We defeated 2/5 ships on Isele's attack, expending most of our potions, Inge's magic and much of Zaia's bombs.

They could have killed us by fightimg to the last

It's 120 days to 150 days on account of the fact that the prevailing are east west and not north south, although you could cut that down if you broke with every rule of sailing caution that Antonio knows and sailed a straight line rather than hugging the coast. You can do that thanks to Inge's navigation cantrip, but it will likely scare a lot of your sailors and Antonio himself is not that keen on it.
