[x] Exchange favours with Diamond-Cut Perfection in order to return to the Imperial Palace at supernatural speed, making a grand statement about your sorcerous progress
This seems the most fun plus it'd be good to check in at home

Keep in mind that scrutiny is phrased as a downside in the first couple of options, and the last option has us gaining universal scrutiny.

So maybe scrutiny isn't what we want, or maybe scrutiny isn't as bad as the first couple of options might make it out to be.

I'm going with this vote because it is justifiable if we choose to do things another way. It's the least likely to offend someone that we didn't pick something else, and it would be advantageous for us to ally with V'neef long term anyways, as we don't really have the time to make a power base, and V'neef would stand to gain a lot from us throwing our 'weight' behind her when things start.

I mean, I doubt we're going to have a great house or anything when the empress disappears, since V'neef is already decently established, which means there's no way we're making a claim on the throne without involving outside parties. In that case, we could get a sweet deal with V'neef, as she desperately is going to need legitimacy, and outside of Cathac declaring for someone, we're the best anyone's going to realistically get.

Yeah I'm getting the impression that scrutiny in and of itself isn't equal between the options. General attention for seeming more talented than expected doesn't seem quite the negative of attention based on suspicion or enmity. Though I suppose making our ties to Perfection clear and public could also be a source of suspicion and judgement. Not sure how badly it's seen in setting outside the risk.

It's a case of us consulting and presumably making deals with a powerful(dangerous) spirit, once for an edge in class and another for a petty demonstration of power to earn our mothers approval. It reads as impulsive, reckless, ambitious. The real issue is how little time passes between our first favor and this one, and how it opens us to the slander of being untalented and dependent on Perfection to progress. We will have enemies and giving them opens so early will have setbacks. Plus, we don't even know the favor yet and what backlash it coukd have.

Diamond-Cut Perfection is an interesting character, though, someone who has just recently slipped their own bonds (ascending from a stationary gemlord to a very mobile elemental dragon), and is looking for opportunities, by their own admission, and is patient.

I think we can be relatively sure that Perfection is unlikely to ask for a 'favor' that was intentionally ruinous. That would be the sort of thing that would clearly and openly tell every other Dynast in the entire Realm not to cut deals with them. If anything, favors right now are likely to be things where we get something relatively innocuous, because that is an investment worth making now. The long view.

Also I kind of want to see Perfection as a love interest option, and introducing them to our dad sure won't hurt that path.

I'd argue that even with elemental sorcerous knowledge, becoming a sorcerer so quickly is proof of talent rather than evidence of its lack. Otherwise peers wouldn't be jealous and the last vote wouldn't refer to us as being announced "a rising talent". Implies tutoring without talent is no more likely to have achieved this result than any other schooling.

Agreed on the concern regarding the favour but in for a penny, in for a pound. Too late to not trust the dragon we've tied ourselves to. I'll just hope Perfection shows themself an ally not in conflict to our values or loyalties. Also agreed on this being a display of reckless ambition but that trait's already clear to those with access to the school's rumour mill which should be most big players with reason to show interest in us.

Unlike the other options where we publicly pick sides the last vote just makes clear what we've already shown to be true, drawing attention to it, and I think the chance to recuperate and recenter at home is worth that.

Admittedly true, but their idea of ruinous might be a little scewed by the fact that they have been a largely stationary gem lord for the majority of their time, and lack the social capacity to understand the destructive potential of a Empire wide rumor mill. It still doesn't stop people from assuming scandalous deals or finding flaws in the ease with which we fall into reliance on spirits.

I'm not really invested in Romance in general, and especially so early. That said, pairings over common sense is one of the most aggrivating things a fanwork in can have in my opinion.

The way I looked at the choices and where Ambraea's coming from, she'd made her choices to emulate Big Red as a sorcerer. Now that she's starting to show her progress, why not show mom? It'd be right out of some childish fantasy that mom hadn't squished yet.

An option with a chance of attention from our Onee-sama's versus a meeting with military otakus or a shipper bait? My choice is clear.

Eh? What "weight"? We don't have any notable wealth or political power by the standards of the Great Houses, nor are we likely to skyrocket so rapidly in sorcerous power that we'll be a big get already at that point (though that would be pretty cool). The best we have is that we're our mother's daughter... but all of the Great Houses are by definition descended from her, and V'neef herself is the Empress's granddaughter by blood (subsequently adopted as her daughter upon formation of her House).
