[] Lever-action and Heavy crossbow production: A design that's been around since the Golden Age. Lever-action crossbows have historically been too expensive to field for most quarrelers. And the invention of handguns has made any Dawi rich enough to afford one, instead purchase a fancy gun. The Lever-Action crossbow is capable of rapidly firing bolts from an internal magazine as fast as the wielder can crank the lever. Each bolt almost hits with the same force as a normal crossbow.
The Heavy Crossbow is, in essence, a small one-person ballista that fires oversized Bolts able to punch through even the armour of a Black Ork. With a low fire rate and large ammunition, this weapon will be used by one in every ten Rangers to provide a means to take out larger threats.
Vikki has done the math. And she's sure that while she can give every Ranger one of these weapons eventually. But it will require several things. First, she will need precision lathes from Zhufbar. Secondly, she will need apprentices and assistants to assist her in her work. Both of which will be incredibly expensive.

Imo, with our Status as a new Guild, this is worth a lot.Leaves an impression to other Guilds that you won't tolerate being fleeced. Will make them less likely to make the attempt.
I'm thinking that you could try to promote the Ranger Guild as something like that. A way for Dawi who have done something they want to atone for, but aren't quite ready to die, to still help the Karaz Ankor. From the shadows and away from their place of shame.
But I'm gonna give you an option relatively soon, to bring in a fully dedicated warrior Clan. They'd be expensive. Thousands of gold each turn because you need to support the fact they don't practice a profession besides war.

Yeah, but to really blow up an orc force that way, you need to get them packed in dense. Running humanoids can only pack themselves so densely, if nothing else because if the second rank follows too close behind the first rank they keep getting kicked in the kneecaps by the churning feet of the first rank.In this case this would be something you'd use the orkish tendency to charge ahead against them and goad/trick them into running over it with the main bulk of their forces. Even if an Ork is being 'subtle' their forces will still go after a presented fight pretty directly.
I mean.I like the idea of minefields. I'm giving Vikki a "Alternate explosives" research option. Involving stuff beyond just satchel charges.

We have a couple of avenues to improve our bargaining position so waiting a little while we pursue those seems wise to me, never negotiate from a position of weakness, particularly if you will soon be strong.
