April 27th, 1945

The War was over in Europe.

The Now German Republic had surrendered unconditionally to the Allies and the Soviet Union.

There were still stragglers and fighting from holdouts that either did not know the orders, and the war was over.

Even the So-called Nazi Super Soldier Johan Libert had to surrender to German forces when his squad of commandos was cornered in Frankfurt… what was left of the city anyway.

Hydra, for its part, after Captian America's dismantling of the science division, was all but destroyed. The few that survived were captured by the Americans on the Raid at Hydra's main base in Norway. It was only after Captain America sacrificed himself to stop Hydra's plan from detonating some superweapon across the eastern seaboard of the United States, that the final nail was given to the orginization.

Any Hydra agent that was in Germany were arrested, and hauled off as a peace offering to the Americans, to give the Republic some leverage on the front of negotiations post-war.

There was also very good news in the German Republic. There were the first free elections held before the Nazis took power. The SDL, and other moderate parties within the German Parliament, had won a majority. Beck was sworn in again as president, with many in Government felt him being the right man for the job, and Konrad Hermann Joseph Adenauer, an Anti-Nazi republican, who had been in hiding since Hitler's assassination to avoid Nazi reprisal, had been elected Chancellor, with Dr. Goerdeler having fallen ill in the last days of winter, and had been forced to not run.

But even in an election, they were declared defunct. Allied forces made the Government Dissolve, peacefully, two days later.

It may not have been effective, but it sent a message to the people of Germany.

Hitler destroyed Germany.

The People, and the Republic, would not have to rebuild it.

Reward: There is hope for the German Republic yet.

And a hope of a quick, painless occupation.

The Old Man was quietly watching you read book after book, medical paper after medical paper. You were quickly getting to the point where most of the German Language papers were running out and you had to try and read French and English medical papers.

Papers that you were quick to begin to Translate into German, once you realized that trying to read a foreign language was far too tiresome and that others may want to read them as well, without having to wait.

Soon, you requested to meet a doctor to provide assistance in a local Army Hopstial.

After he scoffed at you and told you to beat it, and go back to your parents, you had told him that one of his patients was going to have Gangrene in the foot and that without cleaning of the wound, it would spread, because of the poor sanitation of the hospital.

You had taken to deep cleaning and sterilizing everything yourself, acting quickly, and not only saved that man's life, but began to diagnose, and later save other patients that were in the hospital.

You were pretty sure that by the end of the day, almost every man in that place was calling you the Angel of Life.

It started with a feeling of hope, as you read the Bible. It was not the book you wished to read in Prayer. But there was one story that you liked, one story that seemed to remind you of yourself, at least in some respects.

Job, and his story. How he was constantly tested, constantly brought to his lowest point.

But he never gave up or lost his faith in God. Even when he should have.

Like you.

You smiled, and prayed, feeling hopeful for the first time in a long time.

Job could have faced his greatest trials and never lost faith.

So could you.
