[Exalted] The Last Daughter -- Dragon-Blooded Sorcery School Quest

I mean we're already an Earth aspect sorcerer aspirant with mommy issues. If we add demons to the mix then they'll rightly call us Little Mnemon and we will never wash out the shame.

Come on people, what's a little near-death experience compared to making mommy satisfied with our progress? Vote Geomantic Mandala for all that delicious Realm political drama.

I dunno, ain't Mnemon more into the artisanal projects that the Geomantic Mandala covers?

House Mnemon is known for its geomancers and architects, though.

Geomantic Mandala is probably the most Mnemon-like option available.

Because Swords are convenient and stylish. Fists, of course, are just silly. Nobody wants to be the unarmed fighter when they reach the sewer level... "spear best weapon" I think does not apply much to Exalted, and they tend to be either highly visible or very hidden, so make poor devices for casual social threat, as they are never just "I have something very dangerous ready-to-hand", because they are stuck in the modes of either hiding it with magic, or looking like you plan to start a fight.

Because I am amused at the prospect of an old biddy harassing us.

Of course, the bird is adorable, and I love the idea of both crafting and success through overwhelming studying of the coursework, but...

Cmon SV let's almost kill ourselves for power.
It's tradition!

Please don't bring facts into this argument. :V

Anyway, considering her age I would think whatever we choose would still be something Mnemon already done. Welcome to the sad life of a junior Dragonblooded; whatever you do, someone has already done it better.

When you put it like that, yeah all of this is familiar ground to Mnemon. Yet her focus had been on infrastructure with her magic, and if anything we seem more interested in being something closer to what Sola's trying to be, an expression of sorcerer might.

Demons are one of the best parts of Exalted's setting. It's a little on the nose (my group pretty much always dives into demon-stuff headfirst) but the other two options don't really grab me either.

Also, sounds like we had our first Sidereal sighting, an Endings no less.

I appreciate very much that my instant reaction was also the first post, and I'll hardly go back in my word to go all in on demon buddy at the first opportunity.

Edit: wow, both are losing but the initiation especially surprises me. Come on, demon buddy was great.

Y'know, I'm curious what spirit court we'd be bound to. Seems like it might fix us here past our seven years?

Confirming one half of "sword lesbian"

For the initiation, I'd rather our initial rise not be on borrowed power.

I don't think 'shared secret knowledge that hasn't been given to anyone else in centuries' counts as borrowed power. For one, it's not like he can take back the knowledge that he gives us. For two, everything we do with that knowledge (like initiating into sorcery, for instance) is ours and ours alone.

As Kymme says, teaching an Exalt to initiate into sorcery is not exactly the kind of thing you can take back or merely lend. Thematically, this is much like how you can Exalt someone, but you can't un-Exalt someone; it's no longer your power to take back. What a powerful spirit can do instead is just to make sure that their help isn't bargained away too cheaply. The Exalt is still usually getting the better end of that deal.

I love demons, they're weird In the best ways, and just plain more interesting thanew the other initiations.

I find Exalted demons interesting, and our interactions with this one intriguing, but somehow I've yet to read an Exalted story with a focus on elementals.
