[X] [UPGRADE] Improved Building: The workshops and garages you own will get heavily overhauled, and in many cases rebuilt. Development will be automatic.
[X][VACATION] Mexico: An exotic locale, with strange people and interesting places around every corner. The perfect place to escape to if you're afraid of working off the books, and more importantly, a place where the natural environment will let you learn about mysteries of the past and future. (Chance of improving esoteric elements or feet)

[X][VACATION] Majorca: A pleasent international option, the slight air of intrigue in the local Catlan community will add a wonderful touch of spice to the trip. Plus, if you're sufficiently casual about it, you might be able to organize a few... we'll call them private sales. The company won't sneeze at the extra business, and you'll certainly learn. (Chance of extra sales or political connections)

When you got to the plants in Normandy, what you saw was horrifying. The entire time you'd been busting ass to fulfill the order, they'd been converting the plans over to operate on their American machine tooling. This meant conversions from first perspective to third perspective, and more importantly every measurement on every component had to be converted to imperial. Hundreds of parts, each with tens of measurements, all being converted- and in several cases, being redesigned entirely- in a madcap rush.

Of course, once that got done, then the madmen had to re-loft the entire mecha. Every part, cut in paper, one to one, to be compared against a completely disassembled mecha, to ensure that every part was in tolerance.
Fucking Yanks!

[X][VACATION] Marseille: The most French of places to enjoy a holiday, and far more importantly the most domestic. Plus, you might run into a few fellows working on mecha too, what with the talk of the Schnieder Trophy and the engineering discussion around it. (Chance of improving transmissions or cockpit)

[X] [UPGRADE] Custom Weapon: Start work with the Ordnance Department and Artillery Corps to develop a custom mecha weapon. Development will occur during the Intermission.

Mexico...foot upgrades... possible esortic effect... jaguar-tread mecha? 30-ton stealthbot?

I demand esoteric feet!

Listen past a certain point the PC of the era will throw their hands up and say "Fucking hell I have no clue, feet are magic" or you pick the foot engineering background, in which case you may get accused of witchcraft by the Archbishop of Paris.
As we picked transmission knowledge instead of foot knowledge, how close to that bar did whatever we pull to get 7 outputs on the scout mech come?

Since you got it through the perfectly orthodox, if also deeply cursed, method of duct taping crankcases together until it spat out enough vroom, not very. If you were going to build a transmission design to make the Archbishop of Paris sit up, it would be some eye-searing abomination that could enable your mecha to walk backwards or something.

I imagine it is easier to just design to have a smaller turning circle than design something to be able to walk backwards.

Look back on your day today, and recall how often you circled around to turn your whole body rather than walk completely backward.

Mechs can't walk backwards?

Look me in the eye here and tell me you want to cram two walk cycle guide systems into a mecha. That's around 12-16 actuators you need to have two separate control drums for, plus the issue of figuring out how to make everything in the mecha shit a brick, because you can't just reverse the direction of every spinny bit at once.

wouldn't the "simplest" thing be having a simple Transfer case that engages a seperate Set of spinny bits to engage reverse?

Of course, since the eldritch exists in this quest, it's only a matter of time until someone builds a mech that runs off of black magic and orphaned puppy sacrifices.

No, because that runs your forward walk cycle in reverse, and then you fall over like a mongrel.
What if we get the walk cycle to be a palindrome? I doubt it would work on a bipedal Mech, but we do have experience with 6 legged versions.

[] A piss-drunk African preacher, speaking a Caribbean patois you can hardly make out. The mechanics trying to rouse him have a reason, though, and judging from their frantic prayers and the broken car outside, they seem to think his faith is the only thing to bring it back to life. (Eldritch Research Development)
It could also be literally powered by god considering the car mentioned in one of the choices in tech unlocks last time.

My knees don't bend that way.

EDIT: Though I am worried about the mechs' stability if they can't stagger backwards a step or half to steady themselves. Or putting a foot behind themselves to steady themselves before they fire.

One assumes they step forward, rather than backward, into the same position.
Though the ability to stagger in basically any direction is kind of fundamental to the ability of a biped to not faceplant (or worse, topple backwards) the moment Anything causes it to be less than perfectly vertical.

Perhaps simple on paper before considering the bits and pieces. Much like your own legs, there's a lot of bits that are under load or tension. So every break point of your walk cycle needs to have a way to loosen up the tensioned bits that now need to slack and to tension up the bits that had to be slack and now need to be under tension. And all these control lines and new hydraulics have to be slotted in with the existing setup...

My guess is that there are ways to fiddle with the current pressure on the legs to make the mecha shuffle or sag back a bit. Little tricks that could either save a pilot's neck or topple the mecha on flat concrete :V
