Age of Ice and Blood: A Pathfinder System Heroic Fantasy Quest

[x] Numb, there is nothing you can do, nowhere you can go, just keep putting one foot in front of the other and hope things will make sense eventually

[X] Determined, you will find your way home somehow come what may, you will cross oceans and forests cold plains and grinding ice. As God is your witness you will get home

- "coming mother!" - some old movie line

[x] Numb, there is nothing you can do, nowhere you can go, just keep putting one foot in front of the other and hope things will make sense eventually

[x]Determined, you will find your way home somehow come what may, you will cross oceans and forests cold plains and grinding ice. As God is your witness you will get home.

This seems like a good long term goal for the quest.

I think Roland is past the point of going numb, though it's a reasonable reaction, IMO. Being determined to carry on and get back home is all well and good, except that isn't going to happen and chasing that dream will close too many doors and shape too many future goals. Better to get angry for a bit, though I don't like the idea of being angry at Zaia, since the dude is still having a crisis of his own.

[X] Angry, at Zaia at fate, at God for setting you to wander in the wilds without hope of return

I'm not going to choose Determined because I feel that option closes too many doors, and is setting Roland up for disappointment.

I'm worried about Roland ending up with the "Numb" reaction, y'all. That's the worst option, IMO, and the least in character for the man.

I think its important to have a set goal in long term and cause its more than just Roland who wants to return home, he has a duty to his men after all. Besides, we got here after all so that means there must be a way back.

Lack of write-in makes me sad as I think I have a perfect one for this. But in lieu of that:

[X] Determined, you will find your way home somehow come what may, you will cross oceans and forests cold plains and grinding ice. As God is your witness you will get home

Even though you cannot use it here I would be very interested in seeing what you have in mind. You always do the path to mental balance so well and if there was another character here for you to counsel I would certainly allow a write in, but this is a more limited vote because Roland is unfortunately very much alone in this moment so the question is more about where he takes the blow for a blow there will be.

With that said as time passes and Roland grows and develops as a character you will certainly be able to nuance and shift his character. Nothing is se in stone given the right circumstance and the right vote.

I don't like the Determined option, but it's definitely better than Numb. Changing my vote with that in mind.

[] Determined, you will find your way home somehow come what may, you will cross oceans and forests cold plains and grinding ice. As God is your witness you will get home

To be fair, the last line could be interpreted as making a new home here if we feel like it.

We can get over numbness eventually, but following a not only impossibly goal, but also a stupid one ( yay, back to the world where you die of infections or a bad cold) will occupy us for far too long.

It's the period of time in between going numb and getting our head screwed on straight that worries me. Just like we can get over numbness, we can also eventually come to realize that getting back to our time/space is impossible.

Still would vastly prefer the Angry option, but that just isn't viable with so many people pushing for Numb or Determined.
